Combined modality therapy is frequently used to treat non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC). Surgical resection is the mainstay of treatment for Stages I and II NSCLC. Little evidence supports the use of adjuvant therapy In patients with Stage I NSCLC. Adjuvant radiotherapy to the chest after resection for Stage II and IIIA NSCLC remains controversial but may be appropriate for many patients with resected Stage IIIA disease or inadequately pathologically staged II disease. For Stage IIIA NSCLC, surgery appears suboptimal, though no other single modality appears superior. Recent studies of neoa

BACKGROUND: Novel nonsteroidal topical therapies are increasingly used for pediatric atopic dermatitis (AD), but their comparative efficacy and safety remain unclear because direct active-comparator evidence is limited.
METHODS: We conducted a systematic review and frequentist network meta-analysis (NMA) of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) evaluating novel nonsteroidal topical therapies in children with AD. The study was registered in PROSPERO (CRD420261400624). Efficacy outcomes included Investigator's Global Assessment treatment success (IGA-TS), Eczema Area and Severity Index 75 respons

INTRODUCTION: Patients who have undergone curative surgery for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) often experience long-term reduced quality of life (QoL), high symptom burden, risk of physical deconditioning and comorbidity. Current Danish rehabilitation offers are heterogeneous and not specifically tailored to the disease-specific needs and no long-term targeted support is currently available. Previously, singing-delivered as a structured training modality-has conferred both physiological and psychological improvements in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, which may likely be transferabl

Aim: The objective was to systematically review the efficacy and safety of topical diclofenac in both acute and chronic musculoskeletal pain in adults. Methods: We used standard Cochrane methods. Searches were conducted in MEDLINE, EMBASE and The Cochrane Register of Studies; date of the final search was November 2018. Included studies were randomized, double blinded, with ten or more participants per treatment arm. The primary outcome of "clinical success" was defined as participant-reported reduction in pain of at least 50%. Details of adverse events (AEs) were recorded. Results: For acute pai

CLINICAL QUESTION: Are nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) associated with greater pain relief than placebo, other drugs, and nondrug treatments for patients with chronic low back pain?
BOTTOM LINE: Compared with placebo, NSAIDs are associated with a small but significant improvement in pain and disability in patients with chronic low back pain, although this difference became nonsignificant when studies with high risk for bias were excluded. The associated benefits were smaller than the minimal clinically important difference.

Decisions must be made when assigning analgesics, and such decisions involve comparing efficacy and adverse effects. The rules for assessing efficacy by systematic review and by large clinical trials are becoming clearer all the time. It is known, for instance, that trials that are not randomized, are not double-blind, or are too small will exaggerate efficacy. These rules are relatively easy to apply to drug interventions, although there are glaring exceptions, such as in early intra-articular morphine studies. The rules may also be less easy to apply for analgesics available over-the-counter

INTRODUCTION: Postoperative opioid use is associated with adverse effects and increased risk of long-term dependence. Dexmedetomidine (Dex), a selective alpha-2 adrenergic agonist, has analgesic and sedative properties and may reduce opioid requirements when used perioperatively. This systematic review assessed its efficacy in reducing postoperative opioid consumption and improving recovery outcomes in adult surgical patients. METHODS: A systematic search of PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library (to 1 May 2025) identified randomised controlled trials comparing intravenous Dex with placebo o

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are widely used medications that function by inhibiting cyclooxygenase enzymes. Although they are highly effective in managing pain and inflammation, their potential for increasing bleeding risks continues to be a concern. Due to the increased risk for bleeding complications following surgical procedures, the safety of perioperative NSAIDs is debated. The primary objective of this article is to examine literature published in the past 10 years focused on post-operative bleeding risks associated with perioperative NSAID use. A systematic search was

BACKGROUND: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), the most common liver disease, is closely associated with metabolic conditions such as obesity and diabetes mellitus, which significantly impact human health outcomes. The impaired lipid profiles observed in NAFLD individuals can further contribute to cardiovascular events. Despite the high prevalence of NAFLD, there is currently no confirmed intervention approved for its treatment. This study aimed to summarize the results of meta-analysis studies of randomized control trials assessing the impact of gut microbial therapy (probiotics, synb

This review is out of date, although it is correct at the date of publication. The review may be misleading as new studies could alter the original conclusions. All previous versions of the review can be found in the ‘Other versions’ tab. A new author team intends to develop four new reviews on this topic, which will serve to update and supersede this review. The new reviews will cover paracetamol, paracetamol plus opioids, NSAIDs, and NSAIDs plus opioids, for cancer pain. For more information, contact the PaPaS Review Group. An increasing number of research indicate that non-invasive neurostimulation techniques, like transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), can effectively control refractory epilepsy. While previous meta-analyses have primarily focused on randomized controlled trials (RCTs), this study expands the scope by including both RCTs and non-RCTs to provide a more comprehensive assessment of tDCS efficacy in treating refractory epilepsy. Through a systematic search of "PUBMED, Embase and Cochrane", we sought relevant studies related to the research topic. We utilized the Cochrane Collaboration tool

BACKGROUND: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) features poor sleep quality due to nocturnal dyspnea and psychological distress, leading to increased hospital admissions and reduced quality of life. Considering patient preference and existing evidence, non-pharmacological intervention, i.e. cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), on sleep for COPD patients had its potential efficacy. However, current guidelines do not include sleep management as standard care, and there is a lack of comprehensive reviews on this topic. This systematic review hence evaluated the effectivenes

INTRODUCTION: Lung cancer is the most common cause of cancer death worldwide and most patients present with extensive disease. One-year survival is improving but remains low (37%) despite novel systemic anti-cancer treatments forming the current standard of care. Although new therapies improve survival, most patients have residual disease after treatment, and little is known on how best to manage it. Therefore, residual disease management varies across the UK, with some patients receiving only maintenance systemic anti-cancer treatment while others receive local consolidative treatment (LCT),

Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is a multifactorial disease with an increasing prevalence worldwide due to the obesity pandemic. HM15211 (efocipegtrutide), a novel, long-acting glucagon-like peptide-1/glucagon/glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide triple incretin agonist has shown promising efficacy in in vitro, preclinical rodent models of NASH and phase 1 studies with manageable toxicity. Though liver biopsy is recommended for grading and staging of NASH, its invasive nature necessitates innovative approaches in clinical trials that decrease the burden of patients otherwise subje
