Occupational stress and psychological wellbeing among critical care nurses in private hospitals in Somalia: a national cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Critical care nurses operate in some of the most demanding environments within the health system, and their psychological wellbeing is closely tied to patient outcomes and workforce sustainability. Somalia's fragile healthcare system, marked by persistent resource shortages and limited regulation, presents additional pressures that may elevate stress among ICU nurses. However, evidence from the Somali context has been lacking. This study examined the relationship between occupational stress and psychological wellbeing among critical care nurses working in private intensive care uni…

Police work stress and occupational burnout: the chain mediating roles of work interference with family and affective work rumination.

BACKGROUND: Work-related strain may extend beyond the workplace by disrupting family life and sustaining emotionally distressing thoughts about work during off-job time. This study tested whether the association between police work stress and occupational burnout included a serial indirect component through work interference with family (WIF) and affective work rumination (AWR). METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was completed by 1,464 police officers serving across nine cities in southeastern China. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to estimate the direct association and three presp

The hidden cost of your 'too fast food': stress-related factors and fatigue predict food delivery riders' occupational crashes.

Objectives. For several years, the so-called 'gig economy' has kept transforming urban transportation dynamics. However, the literature has often overlooked the demanding, stressful and safety-compromising conditions under which delivery riders carry out their occupational tasks. This research aimed to examine whether fatigue acts as a mediating mechanism in the complex relationships among job settings, stress-related psychosocial factors at work and the occurrence of occupational traffic crashes among two-wheeled food delivery riders. Methods. This cross-sectional study field-surveyed 248 foo

Occupational Exposure to Cooking-Generated Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons and Associated Oxidative Stress and DNA Damage Among Grill Restaurant Workers.

Street-food grilling is a common occupation in Asia, yet the occupational health risks associated with cooking-generated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) exposure, occurring alongside plausible unmeasured co-exposures such as ambient heat and physical workload, remain under-researched. This study investigated the internal dose of PAH exposure and its association with early biological effects and physiological strain among grill restaurant workers. A cross-sectional study was conducted involving grill workers and 20 age/BMI-matched controls. Urinary 1-hydroxypyrene (1-OHP) was utilized a

Dynamic assessment of occupational heat stress in deep mine roadways: A coupled heat-moisture model for predictive microenvironmental analysis.

Deep mining operations generate extreme thermal environments that impose serious occupational health risks on miners. To dynamically capture the spatiotemporal evolution of heat-moisture exposure, we developed a three-dimensional transient model incorporating a moving-mesh technique to simulate progressive excavation. The model, rigorously validated against field measurements (relative errors <2.0 %), demonstrates that excavation induces distinct airflow zones, with vortices near the working face forming critical hotspots of health risk. Within these zones, recirculation drives localized surge

Occupational status moderates the association between current perceived stress and high blood pressure: evidence from the IPC cohort study.

Although lay beliefs commonly relate high blood pressure (BP) to psychological stress exposure, research findings are conflicting. This study examined the association between current perceived stress and high BP, and explored the potential impact of occupational status on this association. Resting BP was measured in 122 816 adults (84 994 men), aged ≥30 years (mean age±standard deviation: 46.8±9.9 years), without history of cardiovascular and renal disease and not on either psychotropic or antihypertensive drugs. High BP was defined as systolic BP ≥140 mm Hg or diastolic BP ≥90 mm Hg. Perceive
