A longer time interval between operative hysteroscopy and intrauterine insemination is negatively associated with pregnancy outcomes.

Intrauterine pathology can create an unfavourable environment for pregnancy. We therefore sought to determine optimal time interval between operative hysteroscopy and intrauterine insemination (IUI) to optimise pregnancy outcomes. This study was a retrospective cohort study of IUI cycles following an operative hysteroscopy performed at our institution between January 2018 and August 2023. Our primary outcome was clinical pregnancy following IUI. Patients were grouped into one of four cohorts based on the number of days between operative hysteroscopy and subsequent IUI. We compared cohorts by e

Predictors of Post-Thyroidectomy Cervical Hematoma: Does Operative Start Time Matter? A Retrospective Single-Center Study.

Background/Objectives: Post-thyroidectomy cervical hematoma (PCH) is a rare but life-threatening complication that may require emergency airway management and reoperation. Although many patient-, disease-, and surgery-related risk factors have been investigated, the effect of operative scheduling-related variables on PCH remains unclear. This study aimed to evaluate the association between operative start time, operating room case order, surgeon-specific daily case volume, and PCH. Materials and Methods: Adult patients who underwent thyroidectomy at our clinic between January 2005 and March 20

Impact of barbed suture use in complex back closure on operative time, cost, and safety profile.

OBJECTIVE: Complex locoregional closure of back wounds following spine surgery via muscle flap closure, as opposed to traditional layer-by-layer approximation, decreases rates of complications such as seroma, infection, and dehiscence. However, the impact of barbed suture use on operative time, surgical cost, and patient outcomes for these cases remains unknown. In this study, the authors aimed to evaluate the complication profile, time, and cost savings of barbed suture in complex flap closure of back wounds following the placement of spinal instrumentation. METHODS: An IRB-approved retrospe

Live surgery increases operative time but not complication rate in patients undergoing arthroscopic anatomic glenoid reconstruction.

OBJECTIVES: Live broadcast surgery is an innovative method of remotely introducing new operative techniques to surgeons globally. However, due to the potential impact on patient outcomes, its use remains somewhat controversial. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of live surgery on operative time and perioperative complication rate in patients undergoing arthroscopic anatomic glenoid reconstruction (AAGR) for shoulder instability. We hypothesized that live surgery would maintain a similar surgical time and intraoperative and postoperative complication profile. METHODS: Thi

Virtual Surgical Planning in Craniosynostosis Reduces Operative Time and Length of Stay for Cranial Vault Remodeling.

Cranial vault remodeling (CVR) with and without frontal orbital advancement remodels the skull in craniosynostosis. Virtual surgical planning (VSP) for preoperative planning has been previously shown to be effective in CVR. In this study, the authors aimed to evaluate the impact of VSP on operative and perioperative efficiency for craniosynostosis surgery. A retrospective chart review was conducted of patients with craniosynostosis who underwent CVR. Patient demographics, perioperative variables, use of VSP, and complications were obtained. Perioperative variables collected include operative t

Nutritional deficiencies in gastric bypass patients; incidence, time of occurrence and implications for post-operative surveillance.

BACKGROUND: Post-operative nutritional deficiencies are a common complication following bariatric surgery. The incidence and time of occurrence are not clear, and the efficacy of supplementation remains questionable. Clear guidelines for nutritional follow-up and counselling are needed. METHODS: Preoperative and post-operative deficiencies were determined in a group of 427 gastric bypass patients. The predictive value of preoperative laboratory findings for the development of post-operative deficiencies, the time of occurrence and the effect of supplementation of common deficiencies was studi

Bilateral neck exploration decreases operative time compared to minimally invasive parathyroidectomy in patients with discordant imaging.

BACKGROUND: Unilateral parathyroidectomy for primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) has a high success rate in patients with concordant imaging by sestamibi and ultrasound. However, the optimal procedure when imaging is discordant remains controversial; therefore we compared unilateral exploration with intraoperative parathyroid hormone (IOPTH) monitoring to bilateral neck exploration without IOPTH monitoring in patients with discordant localization studies. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective study of 324 consecutive patients with PHPT treated at our institution from October 2005 to September

Association between umbilicus-symphysis pubis distance and operative time in transabdominal preperitoneal (TAPP) inguinal hernia repair.

BACKGROUND: The transabdominal preperitoneal (TAPP) approach is a widely used minimally invasive technique for laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair. However, operative time and technical difficulty may vary depending on patient-related anatomical factors. This study evaluated the effect of the umbilicus–symphysis pubis (USP) distance on operative time and investigated whether this superficial anatomical measurement could guide patient selection. METHODS: In this retrospective study, data from 767 patients who underwent TAPP repair at Gazi University Hospital between January 2015 and June 2022 w

Predictive factors for prolonged operative time in ureteroscopic lithotripsy for ureteral stones A retrospective cohort study.

INTRODUCTION: A prolonged operative time of lithotripsy with ureteroscopy for urolithiasis increases the risk of infectious complications; however, few reports have investigated the factors prolonging the operative time for ureteral stones. We investigated the factors associated with longer operative time in ureteroscopy for ureteral stones. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study analyzed patients who underwent retrograde ureteroscopic lithotripsy for ureteral stones and achieved an endoscopic stone-free status between April 2019 and July 2022. Patients were classified into two groups based

Impact of Time to Fixation on Outcomes of Operative Treatment of Intra-articular Distal Radius Fractures.

BACKGROUND: The incidence of operative treatment of distal radius fractures (DRFs) has increased recently, but the optimal timing for surgical fixation remains unclear. We hypothesized that: (1) an increase in time to fixation of intra-articular DRFs would increase the likelihood of postoperative complications; and (2) increased time from injury to fixation would lead to longer surgical time and worse range of motion (ROM) outcomes. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 299 fractures in 284 adult patients who underwent open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) of a closed, intra-articular DR
