Assessment of Choriocapillaris Flow Prior to Nascent Geographic Atrophy Development Using Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography.

IMPORTANCE: Initial intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG)-refractory status and prolonged fever are established risk factors for the development of coronary artery abnormalities (CAAs) among patients with acute-phase Kawasaki disease (KD). However, whether different risk factors exist for initial unresponsiveness to IVIG and CAA development remains unclear. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate whether different risk factors exist for initial unresponsiveness to IVIG and CAA development among patients with KD (stratified by age at disease onset). DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: This retrospective cohort stu

Validity of a novel optical coherence tomography angiography flow index in a cohort of primary open angle glaucoma.

BACKGROUND: Vascular mechanisms are implicated in many ocular diseases. Therefore, different vascular imaging modalities are used in management of such conditions. Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) has high spatial resolution and segmentable 3D volumetric sampling enabling isolation of retinal and peripapillary vascular beds. However, OCTA only indirectly derives quantitative flow data i.e. velocimetry through methods and algorithms liable to limitations like signal saturation. This study introduces and validates novel mathematical OCTA flow indices that may compensate for some O

Clinical and Optical Coherence Tomography Evidence of Aqueous Humor Flow from the Suprachoroidal Space to Conjunctival Lymphatics.

A surgical technique was developed to enhance aqueous humor (AH) flow through the non-trabecular outflow pathway by rerouting it from the anterior chamber (AC) to the suprachoroidal space (SCS) without detaching the ciliary body from the scleral spur. Medium- and long-term surgical outcomes were retrospectively analyzed in a case series of 58 glaucoma patients. At 6, 12, and 24 months, the mean IOP decreased from 27.8 ± 8.3 to 14.9 ± 5.0 mmHg, median 15.0 (25th percentile (p25)13.0; 75th percentile (p75) 18.0) and 15.2 ± 3.3 mmHg, and hypotensive medication use reduced from a median (p25; p75)

Gray consistency optical flow algorithm based on mask-R-CNN and a spatial filter for velocity calculation.

The optical flow method has been widely used to measure the vehicle velocity by observing the stationary ground with a camera looking-down. However, when there are moving objects on the stationary ground, the interfering optical flow field will be generated, which decreases the velocity measurement accuracy of a vehicle relative to the ground. In order to reduce the effects caused by moving objects, this paper integrates pyramid Lucas-Kanade (LK) algorithm with the gray consistency method to use the information of color images thoroughly. First, a mask region with convolutional neural network

Aging-associated changes in cerebral vasculature and blood flow as determined by quantitative optical coherence tomography angiography.

Normal aging is associated with significant alterations in brain's vascular structure and function, which can lead to compromised cerebral circulation and increased risk of neurodegeneration. The in vivo examination of cerebral blood flow (CBF), including capillary beds, in aging brains with sufficient spatial detail remains challenging with current imaging modalities. In the present study, we use 3-dimensional (3-D) quantitative optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) to examine characteristic differences of the cerebral vasculatures and hemodynamics at the somatosensory cortex betwee

Noninvasive diffuse optical monitoring of cerebral blood flow and oxygenation responses to intermittent hypoxia in neonatal rats.

SIGNIFICANCE: Intermittent hypoxia (IH) is common in preterm neonates and can cause hypoxic-ischemic brain injury. Simultaneous monitoring of cerebral blood flow (CBF) and oxygenation is essential to detect oxygen delivery-extraction mismatches and guide intervention. AIM: We aimed to adapt and test an innovative diffuse speckle contrast flow oximetry (DSCFO) system for continuous monitoring of cerebral hemodynamics during IH in neonatal rats, a model approximating human neonates. APPROACH: Two compact laser diodes and a miniature CMOS camera were integrated into a fiber-free probe for conti

A Computational Pipeline for Retinal Capillary Blood Flow Measurement using Adaptive Optics Line Confocal Ophthalmoscopy.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: High-speed and high-resolution retinal imaging using adaptive optics line confocal ophthalmoscopy (AOLCO) resolves individual red blood cells (erythrocytes) flowing through the smallest retinal capillaries, but quantifying their velocity first requires removing linear and nonlinear distortions caused by eye motion that may result in a displacement of tens to hundreds of pixels between frames. We present a computational pipeline that stabilizes AOLCO capillary video and measures erythrocyte velocity in true physical units, delivered as an interactive 3D Slicer extensio

Diagnostic Performance of a Novel Optical Coherence Tomography-Derived Fractional Flow Reserve: A Prospective Multicenter Study.

UNLABELLED: Optical coherence tomography-derived fractional flow reserve (OCT-FFR) offers a combined assessment of anatomical and physiological lesions. However, its diagnostic accuracy needs improvement. In this prospective, multicenter, single-arm study, 210 patients across four centers with indications for percutaneous coronary intervention underwent simultaneous FFR and OCT-FFR assessments. OCT-FFR was computed using a novel multitask learning algorithm that integrated lumen segmentation and bifurcation detection, enabling fluid dynamics-based modeling of pressure gradients across coronary

Impact of signal strength on quantitative retinal and choriocapillaris flow measurement from optical coherence tomography angiography.

We evaluated the impact of signal strength (SS) on quantitative measurements from optical coherence tomography (OCTA). Twenty healthy-volunteers were included. A neutral density filter (NDF) was attached to spectral-domain OCTA (SD-OCTA) and swept-source OCTA (SS-OCTA). All subjects were imaged with both devices three times using three different conditions: no filter, NDF0.3, and NDF0.6. For SD-OCTA, SS decreased from 10.0 to 8.2 and 4.0 with the NDF0.3 and 0.6, respectively. The vessel density (VD) and vessel length density (VLD) of the superficial capillary plexus (SCP) decreased when SS dec

Impact of stent malapposition on intracoronary flow dynamics: An optical coherence tomography-based patient-specific study.

Percutaneous coronary intervention with stent implantation has emerged as a popular approach to treat coronary artery stenosis. Stent malapposition (SM), also referred as incomplete stent apposition, could reduce stent tissue coverage and hence increase the risk of late stent thrombosis. The objective of this study was to investigate the impact of SM on intracoronary flow dynamics by combining optical coherence tomography (OCT) image-based model reconstruction and computational analysis. Firstly, a stenosed coronary artery model was reconstructed from OCT and angiography imaging data of a pati

Plaque characteristics and slow flow during percutaneous coronary intervention of irregular protrusion by optical coherence tomography.

Irregular protrusion on optical coherence tomography (OCT) is associated with clinical events and target lesion revascularization. We investigated clinical and procedure characteristics, plaque characteristics, slow flow after stent implantation, and clinical outcomes with irregular protrusion using OCT. Eighty-four lesions in 76 patients undergoing OCT before percutaneous coronary intervention were evaluated. Irregular protrusion was defined as protrusion of material with an irregular surface into the lumen between stent struts with a maximum height of ≥100 μm. Lesions with irregular protrusi
