Sexual function in women with pelvic floor disorders who have sex with women: a qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Urogynecologic literature confirms that pelvic floor disorders are detrimental to sexual function in heterosexual women and that sexual function improves following treatment. Few data exist regarding these issues in women who have sex with women, potentially affecting patient-provider interactions, treatment choices and outcomes. OBJECTIVE: To describe sexual function concerns of women with pelvic floor disorders among women who have sex with women. STUDY DESIGN: This was a multicenter qualitative study conducted to explore the sexual function of women who have sex with women and

Uroflowmetry with pelvic floor electromyography: inter-rater agreement on diagnosis of pediatric non-neurogenic voiding disorders.

INTRODUCTION: Uroflowmetry with electromyography (uroflow-EMG) is commonly used for evaluation of lower urinary tract (LUT) function in children. Diagnostic criteria based largely on uroflow-EMG findings have previously been proposed for several conditions collectively termed non-neurogenic voiding disorders (NNVDs). These include dysfunctional voiding (DV), idiopathic detrusor overactivity disorder (IDOD), detrusor underutilization disorder (DUD), and primary bladder neck dysfunction (PBND). It is unknown whether practitioners with varying levels of training and experience can apply the diagn

Defecatory disorders, anorectal and pelvic floor dysfunction: a polygamy? Radiologic and manometric studies in 41 patients.

A consecutive series of 41 patients with defecatory disorders was prospectively studied by anal manometry and evacuation proctography to determine the relationship between abnormalities and symptoms. The patients (29 female, 12 male, aged 41 +/- 2.3 years) all complained of difficulty in evacuation. All had normal colonoscopy and biochemistry. There was no evidence of megacolon or megarectum, and no symptoms had been previously treated by pelvic floor surgery. All subjects completed detailed questionnaires related to gastrointestinal symptoms with special reference to excessive straining and d

Effects of Sleeve Gastrectomy on Pelvic Floor Disorders in Female Patients with Severe Obesity: a Prospective Study.

INTRODUCTION: Obesity is associated with pelvic floor disorders (PFD). Sleeve gastrectomy (SG) is one of the most effective weight loss methods. Although SG has been found to improve urinary incontinence (UI) and overactive bladder (OAB), its impact on fecal incontinence (FI) remains controversial. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This prospective, randomized study involved 60 female patients with severe obesity who were randomly assigned to two groups: the SG group and the diet group. The SG group underwent SG, while the diet group received a low-calorie, low-lipid diet for 6 months. The patients' con

Dynamic magnetic resonance imaging defecography: a diagnostic alternative in the assessment of pelvic floor disorders in proctology.

PURPOSE: Standard diagnostic proctologic procedures in the assessment of pelvic floor disorders include clinical evaluation and endoscopy. Particular aspects of combined pelvic floor disorders, especially those involving more than one pelvic compartment, may remain undetected without additional technical diagnostic procedures such as videoproctoscopy, cinedefecography, or colpocystodefecography. The aim of the study was to review the potentials of dynamic magnetic resonance imaging defecography to elucidate the underlying anatomic and pathophysiologic background of pelvic floor disorders in pr

"Things Are Happening That I Don't Understand": A Narrative Exploration of the Chaos of Living with Pelvic Floor Disorders.

Pelvic floor disorders (PFDs), including fecal and urinary incontinence as well as pelvic organ prolapse, are common medical issues faced by one-third of all women across the lifespan. Despite this prevalence, many women are unaware of them, have highly stigmatized perceptions of them, and thus do not actively seek support or treatment for them. Given that PFDs can drastically impact quality of life to the point of social isolation and depression, this study examines chaos and desire as both lived and storied constructs that ultimately influence whether and how women with PFDs assert control o
