Dental mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) play an essential role in the development of immature permanent teeth. Bacterial infection of the pulp and periapical tissues of immature permanent teeth, the associated oral pathogens, and their virulence factors affect the viability, proliferation, differentiation, and cytokine secretion of MSCs. Bacteria and virulence factors can also trigger an inflammatory response that induces pro-inflammatory cytokine secretion and destroys odontogenic MSCs in the pulp and periapical region, negatively affecting the development of immature permanent teeth. The presen

Pulp involvement of immature permanent teeth with dentinogenesis imperfecta is challenging and could lead to extraction. A case of dentinogenesis imperfecta-induced periapical periodontitis of an immature permanent tooth was treated with regenerative endodontic treatment (RET), and root maturation was observed in 12-month follow-up. An 8-year-old girl presented acute pain and swelling in central mandibular region. Clinical and radiographic examination revealed "shell teeth" appearance of teeth 31, 41, and 42. Periapical lesion of tooth 31 was observed. Tooth 41 was previously treated with apex

Endodontic and periodontal disease are distinct etiologies that can lead to odontogenic sinusitis (ODS). Apical periodontitis and periodontitis are both polymicrobial infections but with different pathogens affecting different parts of the tooth and alveolar bone. Diagnosing both conditions requires specific clinical examination in addition to radiographic assessment. Understanding the terminology and pathophysiology of these conditions and how they are identified should improve diagnostic and therapeutic outcomes, as well as future ODS research.

BACKGROUND: This study investigates the influence of dental pulp and periapical status on inflammatory mediators, particularly matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), which contribute to tissue destruction around the teeth and the development of periodontitis. This study aimed to compare MMP-9 levels in the gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) between the cases of acute apical periodontitis, chronic apical periodontitis, and healthy controls before and after root canal treatment (RCT).
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This prospective, cohort study involved 19 samples each of acute and chronic periodontitis cases

A case with a dilacerated maxillary permanent central incisor, treated with forced eruption technique is illustrated and the results of the 4-year follow up are presented. After the successful eruption of the tooth, the root development was completed and the root canal was obliterated. The 4-year follow-up results revealed the tooth to be still functional and the radiographic evaluation showed that the periodontal and periapical tissues were intact and healthy. In conclusion, the impacted dilacerated incisor diagnosed in the early mixed dentition should be treated with the aid of orthodontic t

UNLABELLED: Our study aimed to assess the possibilities of healing in periapical lesions following endodontic therapy, using a standardised technique.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Study group included 34 patients with 15-45 age. 40 teeth with periapical granuloma and periapical difuse osteitis were endodontically treated. All teeth presented radicular obturations with adequate length and density consisting of gutaperca points and antiseptic sealer (Endoflas, Sanlor). Optimum coronal sealing was provided through prosthetic restorations or composite resins associated with glassionomer cements. All tre

The aim of this study was to determine the pattern of tooth loss in chronic periodontitis patients and hence help the clinician to plan preventive treatment against the loss of these teeth. Dental record notes of all the subjects, the periapical radiographs and actual intra-oral examinations of the juvenile periodontitis patients were done to determine the number and types of tooth loss. It was observed that the pattern of tooth loss in both groups of chronic periodontitis (plaque Induced periodontitis (PIP) and juvenile periodontitis (JP) was different as the most frequently lost teeth in PIP

INTRODUCTION: Cholesterol clefts are common histologic findings in periapical biopsies; they have a reported incidence in periapical periodontitis of up to 44%. Cholesterol crystals are also recognized in advanced atherosclerotic plaques in humans. Male sex, genetic abnormalities, and age have been associated with advanced atherosclerotic lesions. Among these nonmodifiable risk factors, age is the most dominant. The aim of the study was to evaluate if age is also linked to cholesterol deposition in periapical periodontitis.
METHODS: The database of biopsy reports obtained between 2006 and 200

We report a clinical case of type Ⅲ dens invaginatus with endodontic-periodontal lesion in a maxillary lateral incisor. The palatal radicular anomaly predisposed the tooth to periodontal lesions. The caries along the palatal groove caused tooth pulp necrosis and periapical lesions. By means of microscopic root canal therapy, apical surgery, and guided periodontal tissue regeneration, the apical and periodontal infection were controlled, and the affected tooth was retained.

INTRODUCTION: Ossifying fibroma mimicking chronic apical periodontitis is extremely rare. This report describes a case of ossifying fibroma located in the periapical region of the mandibular right canine that was misdiagnosed as chronic apical periodontitis.
METHODS: A 40-year-old woman complained of slight pain in the right anterior mandibular region without mucosal abnormalities or swelling. Radiographically, a well-circumscribed, unilocular, radiolucent lesion was observed that was located in the periapical region of the mandibular right canine, which presented an endodontically treated ro
