This patient series reports the outcomes of CAD/CAM prosthetic reconstructions in patients with cleft lip and palate (n = 9, aged 27 to 76) who have experienced significant failure with conventional restorative and fixed prosthodontic treatments. The objective of the protocol is to establish a functional and patient-friendly prosthetic structure for individuals with unilateral/bilateral cleft lip and palate (UCLP/BCLP) while minimising the requirement for specialised follow-up care in the cleft unit. The study data were obtained from a retrospective cohort at Helsinki University Hospital. Pros

Periodontal disease, trauma, and congenital defects can result in both soft tissue and hard tissue defects that can present with aesthetic problems. The management of these problems may be limited to prevention or surgical management which can result in significant morbidity especially if a second surgical site for grafting is utilised. This article describes the various prosthodontic techniques to improve gingival aesthetics using contemporary materials such as gingivally coloured composite and gingivally coloured porcelain in addition to more traditional materials such as standard prosthetic

BACKGROUND: Dental implants are a long-term and reliable solution to replace missing dentition, but subject to different patient-related and biological changes that could alter its success. Xerostomia, or the alteration of the normal salivary flow, can impair oral function and potentially affect the success of any treatment, including implant outcomes. The purpose of this study is to study the association between xerostomia and peri-implantitis.
METHODS: A retrospective cohort study was conducted using records of patients who received dental implants between 2010 and 2023 at the University of

Dental treatment for periodontally compromised patients can be highly complicated and challenging. This article addresses the effectiveness of contemporary periodontal treatment modalities by depicting clinical cases of periodontal restoration and health that have been maintained for 20 or more years. The cases incorporate four key steps vital to achieving successful treatment of chronic adult periodontitis: debridement, occlusal stabilization, pocket elimination, and maintenance. These cases demonstrate proof of principle that if the treatment is carefully planned and executed precisely, the

Investigating the scintigraphic images of jaws may have a diagnostic value of bone alterations of dental origin. Anterior view of whole body bone scintigraphy revealed hot spot on jaws of 61% (279) of patients. Twenty-six patients (mean age 58.3 year) from all of those who had increased tracer uptake (ITU) in the maxillo-mandibular region were called back for dental examination. 279 out of 459 (61%) patients had ITU in the maxillo-mandibular region. Dental examination revealed the dental origin of ITU in all cases. In case of periapical pathosis tracer uptake showed 28.79% increase compared to

The success rates in implant dentistry vary significantly among patients presenting previous history of periodontitis. The aim of this study was to evaluate if patients with history of chronic periodontitis (CP) are more susceptible to peri-implant disease (PID) than those without history of CP. Two hundred and fifteen individuals, under periodontal maintenance, presenting 754 osseointegrated implants, were selected for this study. The patients were divided into two groups according to the peri-implant status: Control group (patients without PID; n=129) and PID group (patients with PID; n=86).

The aim of this article is to encourage good practice in the statistical analysis of dental research data. Our objective is to highlight the statistical problems of collinearity and multicollinearity. These are among the most common statistical pitfalls in oral health research when exploring the relationship between clinical variables using multiple regression analysis. We hope that this article will show why these problems arise and how they can be avoided and overcome. Examples from the periodontal literature will be used to illustrate how collinearity and multicollinearity can seriously dis

Occlusal reconstruction comprising orthodontic treatment, autotransplantation, and implant treatment was performed in a 30-year-old woman with missing maxillary anterior teeth. An initial examination revealed marked root resorption of the maxillary anterior teeth. Both the maxillary canines were missing, causing constriction of the dental arch. Conserving the right maxillary central and lateral incisors, which were dislocated due to trauma, was considered to be too difficult, and a bridge was not selected as there was insufficient load bearing capacity in the adjacent abutment teeth, making th
