In the course of investigations of gamma-oryzanol in rats, circadian rhythms in antiulcerogenic action on gamma-oryzanol were observed. Circadian rhythms in several other parameters were investigated and correlated with the antiulcerogenic action. Pretreatment of rats with gamma-oryzanol 100 mg/kg, s.c., for 5 days tended to decrease serum gastrin levels and gastric secretion, and to increase serum 11-OHCS. Suppresive patterns of serum gastrin and gastric secretion following the pretreatment with gamma-oryzanol corresponded to the circadian rhythms in antiulcerogenic action of gamma-oryzanol.

Lactate dehydrogenase-5 and creatine kinase from rabbit muscle were labeled by coupling with N-hydroxysuccinimidyl 3-(4'-hydroxy-[3',5'-125I]diiodophenyl)propionate. After purification, the analytical recovery of catalytically-active labeled enzyme averaged 90% for lactate dehydrogenase, 81% for creatine kinase. The labeled enzymes were injected intravenously into rabbits and disappearance from plasma of catalytic activity and radioactivity was measured. The disappearance curves for lactate dehydrogenase-5 differed considerably from those observed with the enzyme labeled by direct iodination.

We compared efficacy and safety of aspirin (ASA) and fenoprofen in the treatment of JRA. Ninety-nine children with JRA were given ASA or fenoprofen in a 12-wk, multicentered, double-blind, parallel study. Initial fenoprofen dosage was 900 mg/m2/d increased to 1800 mg/m2/d (3200 mg/d-max). Initial ASA dosage was 1500 mg/m2/d increased to 3000 mg/m2/d (5450 mg/d-max).
