The reactions of phosphorus trichloride with various amino acids afford the pentacoordinated spirophosphoranes. The reaction procedures were traced by (31)P NMR spectra techniques. A new crystal structure of alanine derivative was characterized, which is a slightly distorted TBP structure. Besides, this kind of spirophosphoranes are potent inhibitors to tyrosinase.

Phytic acid (inositol hexakisphosphate [InsP(6)]) is the storage compound of phosphorus in seeds. As phytic acid binds strongly to metallic cations, it also acts as a storage compound of metals. To understand the mechanisms underlying metal accumulation and localization in relation to phytic acid storage, we applied synchrotron-based x-ray microfluorescence imaging analysis to characterize the simultaneous subcellular distribution of some mineral elements (phosphorus, calcium, potassium, iron, zinc, and copper) in immature and mature rice (Oryza sativa) seeds. This fine-imaging method can reve

Optimizing nutrient management is essential for sustaining crop productivity on fertilizer-unresponsive acidic soils, particularly through a comprehensive understanding of soil phosphorus (P) dynamics. Phosphorus availability is often limited by soil physicochemical properties, necessitating site-specific amendment strategies. This study evaluated the status of inorganic P fractions and their response to various nutrient and soil amendment treatments in acidic Nitisols from Welmera and Ejere districts in the central Ethiopian highlands, with a focus on barley (Hordeum vulgare), a crop that is

This review aims to examine microbial mechanisms for phosphorus (P) solubilization, assess the impacts of P mining and scarcity, and advocate for sustainable recycling strategies to enhance agricultural and environmental resilience. Phosphorus is an indispensable macronutrient for plant growth and agricultural productivity, yet its bioavailability in cultivation systems is often constrained. This scarcity has led to a heavy reliance on fertilizers derived from mined phosphate rock (PR), which is a finite resource usually contaminated with hazardous elements such as uranium, radium, and thorium

Phosphorus (P) deficiency affects plant yield and quality, yet at the same time, excessive phosphorus application does not necessarily promote the growth of plants. How to maintain a balance between biomass accumulation and phosphorus application is a problem. Therefore, the purpose of this research was to explore the relationship between yield and quality of Bupleurum and phosphorus fertilization, based on three phosphorus fertilization levels (20 kg∙ha-1; 10 kg∙ha-1; and 0 kg∙ha-1). We adopted gas chromatography-mass spectrometry to assess the response of primary metabolites of different pla

Methylphosphonic acid is synthesized by marine bacteria and is a prominent component of dissolved organic phosphorus. Consequently, methylphosphonic acid also serves as a source of inorganic phosphate (Pi) for marine bacteria that are starved of this nutrient. Conversion of methylphosphonic acid into Pi is currently only known to occur through the carbon-phosphorus lyase pathway, yielding methane as a byproduct. In this work, we describe an oxidative pathway for the catabolism of methylphosphonic acid in Gimesia maris DSM8797. G. maris can use methylphosphonic acid as Pi sources despite lackin

We studied a process that enables simultaneous recovery of protein and phosphorus compounds from rice bran. Phosphorus substances in full-fat and defatted rice bran such as phytic acid and inorganic ions were solubilized under acidic conditions in the first step. After that, inorganic and/or organic phosphate salts were recovered in insoluble form under weak alkaline conditions. Furthermore, protein fractions obtained after phosphorus compounds had been removed were solubilized under alkaline conditions. After solubilization, protein fractions with high content were recovered by isoelectric pr

Antacids used to decrease phosphorus absorption in patients with renal failure may be toxic. To find more efficient or less toxic binders, a three-part study was conducted. First, theoretical calculations showed that phosphorus binding occurs in the following order of avidity: Al3+ greater than H+ greater than Ca2+ greater than Mg2+. In the presence of acid (as in the stomach), aluminum can therefore bind phosphorus better than calcium or magnesium. Second, in vitro studies showed that the time required to reach equilibrium varied from 10 min to 3 wk among different compounds, depending upon s

Phosphorus (P), as one of the essential bulk elements for plant growth and development, plays an important role in root growth, accumulation of secondary metabolites, and regulation of gene expression. In Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge (S. miltiorrhiza), an important medicinal plant, the accumulation of its active components is closely related to the level of phosphorus supply, but the molecular regulatory mechanism of phosphorus treatment in the growth and secondary metabolism of S. miltiorrhiza is not clear. In this study, we investigated the effects of low phosphorus (P2), moderate phosphorus (P

Reaction of the ionic liquid [NEt3Me][Cl3] with white phosphorus (P4) gives, quantitatively, hexachlorophosphate [NEt3Me][PCl6]. This compound shows similar reactivity as PCl5, as confirmed for the reaction with phenol, carboxylic acids and ammonium chloride. At elevated temperature, [NEt3Me][PCl6] releases PCl3 and can therefore be used as a potential PCl3-storage material.

Female rats were fed cholesterol-free, purified diets with different concentrations of calcium (0.13-0.75%, w/w), magnesium (0.02 or 0.04%) or phosphorus (0.2-0.8%) as the only dietary variable. After 28 days, no effects of the minerals were found on liver cholesterol concentrations and rates of fecal excretion of bile acids.

The semiconductor industry generates substantial volumes of acidic wastewater containing high phosphorus concentrations, necessitating effective treatment and a resource recovery strategy. This study proposes an integrated process for phosphorus recovery based on acid-induced dissolution of zero-valent iron (ZVI) coupled with oxidant-assisted ferric phosphate precipitation. Acidification significantly enhanced ferrous ions (Fe2+) release from ZVI, facilitating efficient phosphorus capture through subsequent oxidation and ferric phosphate formation. Complete phosphorus removal was achieved at a

The catalytic asymmetric conjugate addition of phosphorus nucleophiles to unsaturated compounds, catalyzed by metallic or nonmetallic catalysts, has been extensively developed. However, the enantioselective transformations involving α,β-unsaturated carboxylic esters for constructing chiral c-p bonds have been rarely reported, particularly in metal-free processes. In this study, we present a novel metal-free methodology for enantioselective 1,4-addition of diarylphosphine oxides to α,β-unsaturated carboxylic esters using classical chiral oxazaborolidine catalysts. Remarkably high yields and ena

The reactivity of diazadiphosphapentalene 1 towards various substrates was investigated. Reaction of 1 with ammonia-borane resulted in transfer hydrogenolysis concomitantly with the cleavage of a P-N bond. By treatment of 1 with 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl (TEMPO), oxidation took place at one of the phosphorus atoms of 1, and a P(V) /P(III) mixed-valence derivative was isolated. At the same time, it was demonstrated that only one of the phosphorus atoms in 1 behaves as an electron donor for electrophiles and Lewis acids. The former afforded an intramolecularly coordinated phosphine-ph

The inhibition of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) is the first step in checking whether new compounds can be considered as drugs for treating neurodegenerative diseases. The effect of viologen-phosphorus dendrimers on AChE and BChE activities was studied. The results show that the effects on the cholinesterase activities depend on dendrimer type and size. Viologen dendrimers can interact with the enzymes in two ways: they can bind either to a peripheral site of the enzyme or to amino acids located near the active site, inhibiting catalysis by both cholinesterases.

Competition of volatile fatty acids between anoxic denitrification and anaerobic phosphorus release is prominent. Therefore, low concentration wastewater has restricted effects on nitrogen and phosphorus removal. The purpose of this study is to treat dormitory sewage with a biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) ranging from 50 to 150 mg/L using dewatered alum sludge-based sequencing batch constructed wetland system. Vegetation in the wetland system was chosen to be Phragmites australis. Three parallel cases were carried out to assess impacts due to different hydraulic retention time (HRT) and artifi

The diphosphene Mes*P=Mes* (Mes* = 2,4,6-tri-tert-butylphenyl; 1) reacted with 1 or 2 equiv of Au(tht)Cl (tht = tetrahydrothiophene) to produce the stable monoaurated adduct Mes*{AuCl}P=PMes* (2) or diaurated adduct Mes*{AuCl}P=P{AuCl}Mes* (3) respectively. The products were characterized by X-ray crystallography, UV-visible, IR, Raman, and multinuclear NMR spectroscopies, as well as by density functional theory calculations. The crystallographic and Raman spectroscopic data provide physical evidence that the P=P bond grows shorter and increases in strength upon auration; these observations ar

Agave lechuguilla is a widely distributed plant in arid ecosystems. It has been suggested that its microbiome is partially responsible for its great adaptability to the oligotrophic environments of the Chihuahuan Desert. To lead the recruitment of beneficial rhizobacteria, the root exudates are essential; however, the amino acids contained within these compounds had been largely overlooked. Thus, we investigated how the variations of amino acids in the rhizosphere at different growth stages of A. lechuguilla affect the rhizobacterial community composition, its functions, and activity of the be
