Bayesian and Machine Learning Models for Genomic Prediction of Anterior Cruciate Ligament Rupture in the Canine Model.

Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture is a common, debilitating condition that leads to early-onset osteoarthritis and reduced quality of human life. ACL rupture is a complex disease with both genetic and environmental risk factors. Characterizing the genetic basis of ACL rupture would provide the ability to identify individuals that have high genetic risk and allow the opportunity for preventative management. Spontaneous ACL rupture is also common in dogs and shows a similar clinical presentation and progression. Thus, the dog has emerged as an excellent genomic model for human ACL rupture

Dynamic gut microbiota shift in chronic liver disease progression: machine learning models and the E/Er ratio as a predictive biomarker.

BACKGROUND: Chronic liver disease (CLD) and its progression to compensated cirrhosis (CC), decompensated cirrhosis (DC), and acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) represent a global health crisis with high mortality. The "gut-liver axis" plays a pivotal role in this progression, yet a systematic characterization of the dynamic microbial evolution across the entire disease spectrum remains elusive. We aimed to systematically characterize the gut microbiota's dynamic evolution across the spectrum of chronic liver disease and to develop machine-learning models for predicting its critical transiti

Identification of hub immune-related genes and construction of predictive models for systemic lupus erythematosus by bioinformatics combined with machine learning.

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune disease that involves multiple systems. SLE is characterized by the production of autoantibodies and inflammatory tissue damage. This study further explored the role of immune-related genes in SLE. We downloaded the expression profiles of GSE50772 using the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database for differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in SLE. The DEGs were also analyzed for Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) enrichment. The gene modules most closely associated with SLE were then derived by Weighted

Developing an Explainable Machine Learning-Based Personalised Dementia Risk Prediction Model: A Transfer Learning Approach With Ensemble Learning Algorithms.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) has its onset many decades before dementia develops, and work is ongoing to characterise individuals at risk of decline on the basis of early detection through biomarker and cognitive testing as well as the presence/absence of identified risk factors. Risk prediction models for AD based on various computational approaches, including machine learning, are being developed with promising results. However, these approaches have been criticised as they are unable to generalise due to over-reliance on one data source, poor internal and external validations, and lack of under

Skin Doctor: Machine Learning Models for Skin Sensitization Prediction that Provide Estimates and Indicators of Prediction Reliability.

The ability to predict the skin sensitization potential of small organic molecules is of high importance to the development and safe application of cosmetics, drugs and pesticides. One of the most widely accepted methods for predicting this hazard is the local lymph node assay (LLNA). The goal of this work was to develop in silico models for the prediction of the skin sensitization potential of small molecules that go beyond the state of the art, with larger LLNA data sets and, most importantly, a robust and intuitive definition of the applicability domain, paired with additional indicators of
