INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: Obstructed defecation syndrome (ODS) is a defecatory abnormality with a sensation of incomplete evacuation, the need to strain at stool, the need for digitation in the vagina, the anus, or the perineum. Anterior rectocele and rectal intussusception are the frequent pathologies behind ODS. The review focuses on the assessment and treatment of obstructed defecation in women with rectocele, recto-enterocele and rectal intussusception in the remit of a urogynecologist.
METHODS: A working subcommittee from the International Urogynecology Association (IUGA) Research and

BACKGROUND: The most common causes of outlet obstructive constipation (OOC) are rectocele and internal rectal prolapse. The surgical methods for OOC are diverse and difficult, and the postoperative complications and recurrence rate are high, which results in both physical and mental pain in patients. With the continuous deepening of the surgeon's concept of minimally invasive surgery and continuous in-depth research on the mechanism of OOC, the treatment concepts and surgical methods are continuously improved.
AIM: To determine the efficacy of the TST36 stapler in the treatment of rectocele c

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: Posterior compartment prolapse is commonly due to a 'true' rectocele, i.e., a diverticulum of the rectal ampulla. This condition is associated with symptoms of obstructed defecation and may contribute to prolapse symptoms. We tested the hypothesis: 'A true rectocele is an independent predictor of symptoms of prolapse.'
METHODS: This was a retrospective cohort study of patients presenting to a urogynecology unit for symptoms of pelvic floor dysfunction between September 2011 and June 2016. Assessment included a structured interview, POP-Q examination and 4D TLUS. U

The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of applying strict selection criteria to patients with symptoms of obstructed defecation, rectocele and rectal prolapse who were candidates for surgery. From June 2001 to September 2003, 20 patients underwent surgery in our clinic for symptomatic rectocele and anorectal prolapse. They were evaluated prospectively using a dedicated questionnaire (KESS), a proctological and gynaecological examination, colpo-cysto-defecography and anorectal manometry before surgery and 6 months postoperatively. Strict selection criteria were used for surgery. After

Causes of recurrences and unsatisfactory results of rectocele surgical treatment (except wound suppuration after surgery) were analyzed. It was concluded that prolapse of rectal mucosa and (or) severe muscular atrophy of the pelvic fundus uncorrected during transvaginal correction of rectocele are the main causes. It is recommended to resect mucosal excess by a traditional or A. Longo's method in the former case and to use synthetic net in the latter. This brings about favorable results in these patients.

Pelvic organ prolapse is a common and growing condition for which women seek help and frequently undergo surgical management. Prolapse of the posterior vaginal wall, alone or in combination with other compartment defects, can be a challenge for the pelvic surgeon. A clear understanding of the normal anatomy, interactions of the connective tissue and muscular supports of the pelvis, and the relationship or lack of relationship between anatomy and function is required. Vaginal support defects occur with and without symptoms, and many of the symptoms attributed to pelvic organ prolapse can result

Background: Rectocele is defined as a defect in the rectovaginal septum, causing symptoms like obstructed defecation syndrome (ODS), vaginal bulging, etc. Once the rectocele is larger than 3 cm and/or symptomatic, surgery should be considered. The surgical approach can be either transvaginal, transanal or transperineal. Two of the most common procedures in treating rectocele are posterior colporrhaphy (PC) and stapled trans anal rectal resection (STARR). The purpose of this study was to compare surgical outcomes of both procedures. Methods: This is a retrospective cohort study. Included were p
