Fetal health state detection method based on parameters efficient ensembling of deep learning.

BACKGROUND: The classification of cardiotocography (CTG) can assist obstetricians in assessing the health status of the fetus. However, traditional fetal heart rate monitoring data has the problem of strong subjectivity in manual interpretation, and deep learning models have poor representation ability on tabular data. METHODS: This study proposed PLE-TabM, a tabular deep learning model combined piecewise linear encoding (PLE) and efficient weight integration. We used the public CTG dataset as the research subject. The PLE was used to improve the perception ability of feature segment interval

Neural representations of transitive relations predict current and future math calculation skills in children.

A large body of evidence suggests that math learning in children is built upon innate mechanisms for representing numerical quantities in the intraparietal sulcus (IPS). Learning math, however, is about more than processing quantitative information. It is also about understanding relations between quantities and making inferences based on these relations. Consistent with this idea, recent behavioral studies suggest that the ability to process transitive relations (A > B, B > C, therefore A > C) may contribute to math skills in children. Here we used fMRI coupled with a longitudinal design to d

A Transformer-Based Framework for Quality Control of Peptide Tandem Mass Spectra.

In tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS)-based proteomics, a significant portion of acquired spectra remains unidentified due to poor quality, which consumes excessive computational resources and increases false-positive rates during database searches. Traditional quality assessment methods rely on handcrafted features or classical machine learning that often generalize poorly across different instruments. While recent deep-learning approaches like SPEQ (spectrum quality) have introduced automation, their reliance on convolutional architectures and supervised learning limits their ability to captur

ScanNet: an interpretable geometric deep learning model for structure-based protein binding site prediction.

Predicting the functional sites of a protein from its structure, such as the binding sites of small molecules, other proteins or antibodies, sheds light on its function in vivo. Currently, two classes of methods prevail: machine learning models built on top of handcrafted features and comparative modeling. They are, respectively, limited by the expressivity of the handcrafted features and the availability of similar proteins. Here, we introduce ScanNet, an end-to-end, interpretable geometric deep learning model that learns features directly from 3D structures. ScanNet builds representations of

Foundations of human spatial problem solving.

Despite great strides in both machine learning and neuroscience, we do not know how the human brain solves problems in the general sense. We approach this question by drawing on the framework of engineering control theory. We demonstrate a computational neural model with only localist learning laws that is able to find solutions to arbitrary problems. The model and humans perform a multi-step task with arbitrary and changing starting and desired ending states. Using a combination of computational neural modeling, human fMRI, and representational similarity analysis, we show here that the roles

Hybrid deep feature fusion and ensemble learning for multi-class skin lesion classification.

INTRODUCTION: Automated classification of skin lesion remains a challenging task due to high inter-class similarity, intra-class variance and extreme class imbalance in the dermoscopic datasets. To overcome these limitations, the proposed study presents a Hybrid Bi-Feature Network model as HB-Net, in which the convolutional neural networks are fine-tuned to extract features and subsequently machine learning classifier are used for skin lesion classification. METHODS: DenseNet201 and ResNet50 are both fully trainable deep architectures independently trained on the dermoscopic images to find di

HIP: Hessian Interatomic Potentials without derivatives.

Molecular Hessians, the second derivatives of the potential energy, are fundamental to many workflows in computational chemistry. Usually, accurate Hessians are computationally expensive to calculate and scale poorly with system size, whether computed using quantum chemistry methods or machine learning interatomic potentials. Here we introduce Hessian Interatomic Potentials (HIPs), a deep learning model that directly predicts Hessians without relying on automatic differentiation or finite differences. To do so, we construct SE(3)-equivariant, symmetric Hessians from irreducible representation

Categorical working memory codes in human visual cortex.

Working memory contents are represented in neural activity patterns across multiple regions of the cortical hierarchy. A division of labor has been proposed where more anterior regions harbor increasingly abstract and categorical representations while the most detailed representations are held in primary sensory cortices. Here, using fMRI and multivariate encoding modeling, we demonstrate that for color stimuli categorical codes are already present at the level of extrastriate visual cortex (V4 and VO1), even when subjects are neither implicitly nor explicitly encouraged to categorize the stim

A hybrid deep learning model for robust and efficient plant leaf disease detection using ResNet50, PCA, and SVM.

Agricultural productivity sustains itself by detecting diseases in the leaves of plants, especially in poor nations where economic growth is greatly affected by delayed or incorrect detection of diseases. Although high classification accuracy is achieved by the application of deep learning techniques like VGG16 and DC-GAN-based architecture, high computational complexity is still an issue. The optimization-oriented hybrid model for the classification of plant leaf diseases developed in this research emphasizes the viability of deployment and computational efficiency over algorithmic innovation

Deep operational normality modeling: an unsupervised framework with potential applicability to supply chain resilience.

Modern supply chains operate as complex, interconnected, and data-rich networks, generating vast amounts of multivariate time-series data. While highly efficient, this complexity renders them vulnerable to unforeseen disruptions. A significant barrier to applying modern machine learning is the inherent scarcity of labeled anomaly data. To address this, we propose deep operational normality modeling (DONM), an unsupervised deep learning framework based on a variational Transformer autoencoder (VTAE). DONM is trained exclusively on data representing normal, healthy operational conditions, learni

A Human-Machine Interaction-Experience-Learning Algorithm for Integrated Lateral-Longitudinal Decision-Making and Control in Intelligent Connected Vehicles.

Traditional reinforcement learning for autonomous driving faces challenges such as slow convergence, control instability, and limited adaptability. To address these issues, this paper proposes a hybrid decision-making framework that integrates V2X communication, human-machine interaction experience, and deep reinforcement learning. Based on the Actor-Critic architecture, the framework incorporates a human-like driving tendency network to constrain the policy search space and integrates a Kalman filter-based V2X communication anomaly handling module. The model constructs the vehicle's action sp

Squidly harnesses enzyme functional hierarchy and contrastive learning to efficiently predict catalytic residues from sequence.

Enzymes present a sustainable alternative to traditional chemical industries, drug synthesis, and bioremediation applications. Because catalytic residues are the key amino acids that drive enzyme function, their accurate prediction facilitates enzyme function prediction. Sequence similarity-based approaches such as BLAST are fast but require previously annotated homologues. Machine-learning (ML) approaches aim to overcome this limitation; however, current gold-standard ML-based methods require high-quality 3D structures limiting their application to large datasets. To address these challenges,

Integrative machine learning approaches for enzyme kinetic parameter prediction.

The prediction of enzyme kinetic parameters, particularly $\mathit{k}_{\text{cat}}$ and $\mathit{K}_{\text{m}}$, is rapidly evolving from physics-based modeling toward data-driven artificial intelligence (AI) approaches, driven by expanding biochemical databases and advances in machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL). We focus on AI-based enzyme kinetic parameter prediction, with an emphasis on $\mathit{k}_{\text{cat}}$ and $\mathit{K}_{\text{m}}$, while also considering related parameters, such as $\mathit{K}_{\text{i}}$ and $\mathit{k}_{\text{cat}}/\mathit{K}_{\text{m}}$. Utilizing whole genome sequencing data for machine learning driven prediction of antibiotic resistance in Escherichia coli.

BACKGROUND: Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is an escalating global public health threat that substantially undermines the effectiveness of standard anti-infective therapies and increases the risk of adverse clinical outcomes. METHODS: We analyzed whole-genome sequencing (WGS) data from 1952 Escherichia coli isolates with AST phenotypes. Gene, single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), and k-mer features were extracted to train machine-learning classifiers for predicting resistance to 10 common antibiotics. Model performance was evaluated using the area under the receiver operating characteristic

scValue: value-based subsampling of large-scale single-cell transcriptomic data for machine and deep learning tasks.

Large single-cell ribonucleic acid-sequencing (scRNA-seq) datasets offer unprecedented biological insights but present substantial computational challenges for visualization and analysis. While existing subsampling methods can enhance efficiency, they may not ensure optimal performance in downstream machine learning and deep learning (ML/DL) tasks. Here, we introduce scValue, a novel approach that ranks individual cells by 'data value' using out-of-bag estimates from a random forest model. scValue prioritizes high-value cells and allocates greater representation to cell types with higher varia

MCOD: a memory-constrained deep learning framework for robust outlier detection in quantitative proteomics.

Ensuring robust quality control (QC) remains a major challenge in quantitative proteomics, particularly in detecting and managing outliers. Deep learning offers powerful representational capacity for ultra-high-dimensional data but often suffers from overfitting in small-sample scenarios. To address this, we propose memory-constrained outlier detection (MCOD), a deep anomaly detection framework that directly processes MaxQuant outputs and achieves competitive recall at high precision levels, which suggests a reduced risk of overlooking true outliers. MCOD integrates two innovations: (i) a memo
