Both cell mediated immunity and humoral immunity was assessed in 16 patients of hydatidiform mole and 6 patients of choriocarcinoma. Fifty percent patients of choriocarcinoma and 11 patients of vesicular mole were given levamisole (LVM) trial and were followed for 2 months. Absolute lymphocyte count (ALC) was significantly increased in vesicular mole after levamisole treatment but in choriocarcinoma no effect was obtained. Cytogenic and immunologic studies were performed on 20 members of a family who had an increased susceptibility to carcinomas of the colon, uterus and of lymphoproliferative malignancy. Chromosomal abnormalities such as small G and/or long submetacentric marker chromosome and other aberrations were observed in members who had cancer as well as some asymptomatic siblings. In addition, impairment of T cell function was noted in many of the members suggesting that defective cell-mediated immunity, which also may be genetically determined, played an important role in the expression of this disease.

OBJECTIVE: To study the use of fine needle aspiration (FNA) cytology in neonatal biliary atresia (BA).
METHODS: Twelve female and nine male patients (age range, 3-7 months; mean age, 4.5 months) with a pre-operative diagnosis of BA, who were scheduled for Kasia portoenterostomy and selected for intraoperative FNA, were studied.

Retinal dysplasia is a rare non-neoplastic congenital disorder characterized by aberrant differentiation of the retina with formation of abnormal tubular and rosette-like structure. Clinically, the lesion presents with leukocoria and mimics a retinoblastoma. One such case is described that occurred unilaterally in a 9-month-old boy.

Two cases of swine thymic lymphoma were investigated by electron microscopy and the immunoperoxidase method for terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase (TdT), and furthermore sheep erythrocyte rosette assay was applied to one case. Immunological and functional studies are performed on workers engaged in the production of plastics, artificial fibres and dyes, in view of clarifying some mechanisms in the evolution of the contact dermatitis and the related with it early changes. The study establishes increased values of IgA and IgG in workers in contact with irritating substances and increased values of IgG in workers in contact with sensitizing substances.
