Ewing's Sarcoma of the maxillofacial region: A case report.

Ewing's sarcoma (ES) is an uncommon malignancy, especially in the head and neck region, with only 30 cases reported so far. The mandible is more affected than the maxilla. It represents the most frequent small round cell bone tumor of childhood and adolescence. This report presented a case of 19-year-old male with primary ES in the right side of maxilla, maxillary sinus, zygoma and temporal fossa areas. The clinical, radiographic, histopathologic features and main histopathologic differential diagnosis of ES were reviewed to avoid potential diagnostic pitfalls.

Cytogenetically confirmed primary Ewing's sarcoma of the pancreas.

Ewing's sarcoma is a highly aggressive malignant tumour most commonly affecting long bones in children and adolescents. It is part of the Ewing's sarcoma family of tumours (ESFTs) that also include peripheral primitive neuroectodermal tumour and Askin's tumours. ESFTs share common cytogenetic aberrations, antigenic profiles and proto-oncogene expression with an overall similar clinical course. In 99% of ESFTs, genetic translocation with molecular fusion involves the EWSR1 gene on 22q12. Approximately 30% of ESFTs are extraosseous, most commonly occurring in the soft tissues of extremities, pel

Primary Ewing's Sarcoma of the temporal bone in an infant.

Introduction : Ewing's sarcoma is the second most common primary malignant tumor of bone found in children after Osteosarcoma. It accounts for 4-9% of primary malignant bone tumors and it affects bones of the skull or face in only 1-4% of cases. Hence it rarely affects the head and neck. Subject and Method : In this case report, we describe a case of primary Ewing's sarcoma occurring in the temporal bone. The tumor was surgically excised, and the patient underwent chemotherapy for ten months. Results : Neither recurrence nor distant metastasis was noted in these 10 months after surgery but abo

Ewing's sarcoma in mandibular similar to dental abscess.

Ewing's sarcoma is a rare malignant neoplasm that comprises approximately 4-6% of primary bone tumors. In most cases, femur and pelvis are affected, and less commonly the head and neck areas (in the jaws, usually the mandible). These tumors have been reported more frequently in males, mostly aged 5-20 years old. Systemic symptoms and signs such as fever, weight loss, anemia, leukocytosis, and elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) may be the first signs in oral Ewing's sarcoma. Such signs and symptoms are also seen in odontogenic infections and abscess. In one case, the patient went to

Rapidly growing intrathoracic extraskeletal Ewing's sarcoma.

There are few reported cases of intrathoracic Ewing's sarcoma, a very rare malignant neoplasm. We report a surgical case of extraskeletal Ewing's sarcoma that had been followed-up as a stable sized tumour for many years, which then grew rapidly within a year. A 27-year old female patient with a rapidly growing abnormal shadow on chest roentgenogram was admitted to our department. She had undergone periodic examinations including chest computed tomography (CT) scans for 6 years since a small nodule in her chest had been pointed out by chest roentgenogram. The initial CT demonstrated a solitary

Copy Number Alterations and Methylation in Ewing's Sarcoma.

Ewing's sarcoma is the second most common bone malignancy affecting children and young adults. The prognosis is especially poor in metastatic or relapsed disease. The cell of origin remains elusive, but the EWS-FLI1 fusion oncoprotein is present in the majority of cases. The understanding of the molecular basis of Ewing's sarcoma continues to progress slowly. EWS-FLI1 affects gene expression, but other factors must also be at work such as mutations, gene copy number alterations, and promoter methylation. This paper explores in depth two molecular aspects of Ewing's sarcoma: copy number alterat

[Late mediastinal metastasis of Ewing's sarcoma of tibia].

Peripheral neuroectodermal tumors constitute a large spectrum of small round cell tumors among which Ewing's sarcoma is the most undifferentiated type. They are rare tumors which often concern young people and generally occur in bone tissue. Their metastatic potential is high, generally early, and rarely after five years. We report the case of a 45-year-old woman who presented a mediastinal metastasis eight years after the primitive tumor of tibia. The diagnosis was made on small core biopsies obtained by CT punction, and was based on morphologic analysis, immunohistochemistry, and confirmed b

Ewing's sarcoma of the cavernous sinus: case report.

OBJECTIVE AND IMPORTANCE: The Ewing's sarcoma (ES) family of tumors is a relatively rare entity, presenting most commonly in children. While the most common sites for this group of tumors are the trunk and the extremities, this case is unique in that we describe a long-term follow-up with an ES presenting in the cavernous sinus. CLINICAL PRESENTATION: We report the case of a 13-year-old girl presenting with the symptoms of classic orbital apex syndrome. Magnetic resonance imaging disclosed a cavernous sinus mass engulfing the optic nerve and extending into the superior orbital fissure. INTER

[A case of extraskeletal Ewing's sarcoma of the chest wall].

A case of extraskeletal Ewing's sarcoma arising in the chest wall of a 15-year-old male is reported in this paper. His complaint was chest and back pain. Physical examination and laboratory data disclosed no abnormality. Radiographs and computed tomography revealed chest wall tumor, and resection of the tumor with a portion of the eighth rib was performed. Histologically, there was no involvement of the rib at all. The tumor tissue was composed of solidly packed tumor cells which were uniform in size and shape. Individual tumor cells were small, round-shaped, and had scanty, ill-defined cytopl

Coincidental occurrence of actinomycosis and Ewing's sarcoma in a child.

Pulmonary consolidation, rarefaction of adjacent ribs and pleural effusion, a triad frequently considered characteristic of actinomycosis, seemed in the present case to support this serologically entertained diagnosis. However, the subsequent course of disease disclosed the most uncommon association of actinomycosis an metastatic Ewing's sarcoma of the lung. The possibility of combined occurrence of an opportunistic infection by actinomyces and malignancy, calls for open biopsy in cases not responding to penicillin treatment or with an unexpected evolution of the clinical manifestations.

Primary Ewing's sarcoma of the sternum: a case report.

A 12 1/2-year-old female presented with Ewing's sarcoma of the manubrium sterni which extended into the anterior mediastinum. At presentation there was no evidence of metastatic disease. Her initial treatment consisted of radiation therapy and chemotherapy. The residual tumor was subsequently resected and the sternal defect was repaired with Marlex mesh. Postoperatively, she was maintained on chemotherapy consisting of BCNU, cyclophosphamide, and adriamycin. The adriamycin was discontinued after she developed sterile fibrinous pericarditis. She remains free of her disease two years after diagn

Prognostic and therapeutic factors influencing the clinical outcome of metastatic Ewing sarcoma family of tumors: A retrospective report from the Japan Ewing Sarcoma Study Group.

BACKGROUND: The prognosis of patients with metastatic Ewing sarcoma family of tumors (ESFT) remains poor. PROCEDURE: We retrospectively analyzed 57 patients diagnosed with metastatic ESFT between 2000 and 2018 to identify prognostic and therapeutic factors affecting the clinical outcome. RESULTS: The 3-year overall survival (OS) rate of the entire cohort was 46.8% (95% confidence interval [CI], 33.0-59.4%). Treatment-related death was not observed. Multivariate analysis identified stem cell transplantation (SCT), response to first-line chemotherapy, and bone metastasis as independent risk fa

The Role of STAG2, CDKN2A, and TP53 Genes in Ewing Sarcoma: A Report of a Rare Case of Primary Ewing Sarcoma of the Kidney With Favorable Outcome.

BACKGROUND: Primary renal Ewing sarcoma (EWS) is a rare but aggressive pediatric malignancy with poor outcomes and limited knowledge of its behavior and biology. The use of molecular markers as prognostic factors and local control strategies with surgical resection and radiation is not well-described for renal EWS. OBSERVATION: We document a case of stage IV renal EWS with 4.5 years of durable remission. CONCLUSION: We hypothesize the favorable outcome may be associated with the lack of specific genomic signatures (STAG2, CDKN2A, and TP53) and the use of upfront surgical resection followed b

Diagnosis, treatment, and postoperative follow-up of intracranial Ewing sarcoma (EWS): a case report.

OBJECTIVE: This study investigates the diagnostic procedures, therapeutic strategies, and postoperative surveillance of primary intracranial Ewing Sarcoma (EWS), with a focus on a pediatric case in the posterior fossa and a comparative literature review. CASE REPORT: We present the case of a 6-year-old girl admitted with a 1-month history of worsening headaches and signs of elevated intracranial pressure. Preoperative MRI identified a large, heterogeneously enhancing mass in the left posterior fossa, initially suspected to be a medulloblastoma. The patient underwent maximal safe surgical rese
