Strategies for partner management when treating sexually transmitted infection.

Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhea are the most commonly reported bacterial sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in the United States, and reinfection accounts for 14% to 30% of all reported cases of these STIs. Treatment of both the woman and her partner is imperative to prevent long-term sequelae. This report examines the clinical course of a woman diagnosed with Chlamydia during pregnancy, and reviews various approaches to treating partners, including patient referral, provider referral, patient-delivered partner therapy, and accelerated partner therapy.

Sexual histories of heterosexual couples with one HIV-infected partner.

Ninety-eight heterosexual couples enrolled in a HIV transmission study, at least one of whom was HIV-infected, were interviewed about sexual behavior. Although males and females were interviewed separately, there was agreement between them on the number of sexual contacts, the practice or anal intercourse, and condom use. These findings of strong reliability are encouraging, but do not necessarily imply that the data are valid.

Only recent sexual partners contribute to oropharyngeal gonorrhoea positivity: the number of sexual partners over different time periods as an indicator of gonorrhoea and chlamydia infection duration among men who have sex with men.

UNLABELLED: Background Mathematical models have demonstrated that the majority of gonococcal transmission is from oropharynx to oropharynx (i.e. kissing) among men who have sex with men (MSM). The aim of this study is to investigate the association between the number of partners within specific time periods and gonorrhoea and chlamydia positivity. METHODS: This was a retrospective data analysis of MSM attending the Melbourne Sexual Health Centre between 2007 and 2016. Univariable and multivariable logistic regression analyses, with generalised estimating equations (GEE), were performed to det

Intimate partner violence and other partner-related factors: correlates of sexually transmissible infections and risky sexual behaviours among young adult African American women.

BACKGROUND: Intimate partner violence and other partner-related factors have been associated with acquiring sexually transmissible infections (STIs) and engaging in risky sexual behaviour. The present study examined partner-related risk factors for STIs and risky sexual behaviours among an urban sample of African American women. METHODS: African American women, between 18 and 29 years (n = 848), participated in the study at baseline. Participants completed a 40-min Audio Computer Assisted Survey Interview assessing sociodemographics, partner-related factors and HIV/STI-associated sexual risk

HIV and Syphilis Self-Testing to Support the Implementation of Patient-Delivered Partner Therapy for Bacterial Sexually Transmitted Infection Partner Treatment Among Sexual Minoritized Men.

BACKGROUND: Patient-delivered partner therapy (PDPT) is a presumptive treatment mechanism for sexual partners of patients diagnosed with chlamydia and/or gonorrhea; however, successful implementation to sexual minoritized men (SMM) is impeded by concerns about missed opportunities for HIV and syphilis testing. As such, we explored barriers and facilitators of including a dual HIV and syphilis self-testing device with PDPT among SMM residing in Oklahoma. METHODS: In 2023, in-depth interviews were conducted with HIV-negative or unknown status SMM ( n = 20; mean age, 33.4; 90% cisgender; 45% Bla

Psychosocial Sequalae of Sexual Assault in a Sample of Partnered Adults Experiencing Alcohol Use Disorder and Intimate Partner Violence.

Research has shown that experiencing a sexual assault results in significant and lasting effects in many psychosocial domains. However, most studies on the impact of sexual assault examine university samples or the immediate aftermath of the assault, not taking into account the longer-term complexities and contexts of life for many victims. The current study seeks to evaluate the role of lifetime sexual assault history on several psychosocial outcomes in adults who are in intimate relationships that have included both intimate partner violence (IPV) and alcohol use disorder. The study included

Patient-delivered partner therapy: One option for management of sexual partner(s) of a patient diagnosed with a chlamydia infection.

BACKGROUND: Chlamydia is the most commonly diagnosed bacterial sexually transmissible infection (STI) in Australia. Partner management is key to reducing transmission and a cornerstone of best practice chlamydia management. While most patients will opt for telling their partner(s) themselves, patient-delivered partner therapy (PDPT) offers an alternative way to inform and treat partners where usual management is inappropriate or unlikely to be undertaken. Guidelines for PDPT vary across Australia. Recent research found that general practitioners (GP)s want practical guidance for using PDPT in

Exposure to HIV partner counseling and referral services and notification of sexual partners among persons recently diagnosed with HIV.

OBJECTIVE: Among HIV-infected persons, we evaluated use of client partner notification (CPN) and health-department partner notification strategies to inform sex partners of possible HIV exposure, and prior exposure to partner counseling and referral services. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional, observational study of 590 persons diagnosed with HIV in the prior 6 months at 51 HIV test, medical, and research providers in Chicago and Los Angeles in 2003 and 2004. Logistic regression was used to identify independent correlates of using CPN to notify all locatable partners. RESULTS: Particip

Understanding the sexual health perceptions, concerns, and needs of female partners of prostate cancer survivors.

BACKGROUND: Prostate cancer (PCa) and its treatments can have a significant negative impact on the sexual health of survivors and couples, but few studies have specifically examined the impact of PCa-related sexual dysfunction on female partners of survivors. AIM: Our objective was to perform a qualitative study to comprehensively characterize female partners' perceptions of the implications of PCa on their sex lives, as well as partners' sexual health concerns and unmet needs. METHODS: We conducted semi-structured telephone interviews about sexual health and unmet needs with female partners

Factors associated with multiple sexual partners among first-year students in a South African university.

University students are at greatest risk of contracting sexually transmitted diseases and HIV, due to multiple sex partners. However, first-year students are arguably, the most susceptible to sexually transmitted infections and HIV. The study examined the factors associated with multiple sexual partners among 348 first-year students aged 17 to 24 years old in a rural university in 2016. Data were collected on the demographic characteristics and sexual behaviours of the respondents in the one-month preceding the survey. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and binary logistic regress

Association between human papillomavirus in men and their sexual partners and uterine cervical intraepithelial neoplasia.

OBJECTIVES: To determine whether the presence of human papillomavirus (HPV) in men is a risk factor in the development of intraepithelial cervical neoplasia in their sexual partners and to corroborate HPV frequency and type. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A case-control study was carried out in the city of Colima, Mexico, from October 2004 to September 2005. It included the male sexual partners of females presenting with intraepitheleal neoplasia and with negative cervical uterine cytology. The study was approved by the local ethics committee, and participants signed a letter of informed consent. Sam

Human papillomavirus DNA detection in male sexual partners of women with genital human papillomavirus infection.

OBJECTIVES: To determine the prevalence of human papillomavirus (HPV) DNA in the male partners of HPV-infected women, assess the concordance of the viral group in the infected pair, define the most affected sites in the male genitalia, and compare diagnostic methods in men. METHODS: Fifty male, stable sexual partners of women positive for HPV DNA by the Hybrid Capture 2 (hc2) test had material brushed from six different anogenital areas for hc2 testing. One week later, patients underwent classic peniscopy, and the lesions were biopsied for histologic analysis and hc2 testing. RESULTS: The br

Randomized trial of supplementary interviewing techniques to enhance recall of sexual partners in contact interviews.

BACKGROUND: People with multiple sex partners tend to forget a significant proportion when recalling them. METHODS: Randomized trial of supplementary interviewing techniques during routine partner notification contact interviews for chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis in Colorado Springs, CO. Cases with multiple sex partners in the last 3 months (n = 123) participated. Interviewers prompted nonspecifically and read back the list of elicited partners after cases recalled partners on their own. We then randomly assigned cases to receive 1 of 3 sets of recall cues: (1) an experimental set of cues

T-lymphocytopaenia, opportunistic infections and pathological findings in Ghanaian AIDS patients and their sexual partners.

Ninety-nine patients at Center for Disease Control (CDC) clinical stage IV were studied. Twelve (12.12%) of these patients turned out to be HIV seronegative. Ten out of the 12 HIV negative patients were immunocompetent whereas the other two had proportional decreases in both CD4+ and CD8+ T-lymphocytes. HIV-1, HIV-2, and dual infection, were detected in 51.5%, 2%, and 22.2% respectively of clinical AIDS patients. The other 12.12% of clinical AIDS patients were indeterminate for HIV antibodies. All HIV positive patients with the exception of two, were immunocompromised with respect to CD4+ and

Women's Strategies for Navigating Disclosure of a History of Sexual Trauma with Current Intimate Partners.

The experience of sexual trauma is common, especially for women. One way to mitigate the adverse social and behavioral health outcomes associated with sexual trauma is through the provision of social support. However, before social support can be provided, there is a need for the survivor to disclose to close others, including romantic partners. This study aimed to understand how women with a history of sexual trauma navigate disclosing these experiences with a current intimate partner. In-depth semi-structured interviews were conducted with 41 women with a history of sexual trauma who describ
