Environmental factors affecting ecological niche of Coccidioides species and spatial dynamics of valley fever in the United States.

Coccidioidomycosis is an understudied infectious disease acquired by inhaling fungal spores of Coccidioides species. While historically connected to the southwestern United States, the endemic region for this disease is not well defined. This study's objective was to estimate the impact of climate, soil, elevation and land cover on the Coccidioides species' ecological niche. This research used maximum entropy ecological niche modeling based on disease case data from 2015 to 2016. Results found mean temperature of the driest quarter, and barren, shrub, and cultivated land covers influential in

Implications from assessing environmental effects on spatio-temporal pattern of schistosomiasis in the Yangtze Basin, China.

Schistosomiasis remains a major public health problem in the South China, particularly in lake and marshland regions. Modelling the spatio-temporal pattern of schistosomiasis guides disease prevention and control programs and is a research area of growing interest. However, few attempts have been made to evaluate the changing (nonlinear) effects of environmental determinants on schistosomiasis. In this context, a hierarchical spatiotemporal model was applied to evaluate how environmental determinants affect the changing trend of schistosomiasis in Anhui Province, China, based on annual parasit

An Integrated Approach for Spatio-Temporal Cholera Disease Hotspot Relation Mining for Public Health Management in Punjab, Pakistan.

Public health management can generate actionable results when diseases are studied in context with other candidate factors contributing to disease dynamics. In order to fully understand the interdependent relationships of multiple geospatial features involved in disease dynamics, it is important to construct an effective representation model that is able to reveal the relationship patterns and trends. The purpose of this work is to combine disease incidence spatio-temporal data with other features of interest in a mutlivariate spatio-temporal model for investigating characteristic disease and

Are the spatio-temporal parameters of gait capable of distinguishing a faller from a non-faller elderly?

Fall is a common and a major cause of injuries. It is important to find elderlies who are prone to falls. The majority of serious falls occur during walking among the older adults. Analyzing the spatio-temporal parameters of walking is an easy way of assessment in the clinical setting, but is it capable of distinguishing a faller from a non-faller elderly? Through a systematic review of the literature, the objective of this systematic review was to identify and summarize the differences in the spatio-temporal parameters of walking in elderly fallers and non-fallers and to find out if these par

Dynamical system of quokka population depicting Fennecaphobia by Vulpes vulpes.

A spatio-temporal prey-predator (quokka and red fox interaction) model with the fear effect, Holling type Ⅱ functional response, and a generalist predator is proposed. The existence of equilibrium points and their corresponding stability are analyzed under certain conditions to explore the system's dynamics. The occurrence of a Hopf bifurcation, a saddle-node bifurcation, and a Bogdanov-Takens bifurcation are confirmed. The partial rank correlation coefficient method is performed for the sensitivity analysis. Furthermore, the cross-diffusion is incorporated in the formulated model system to id

Spatio-temporal dynamics of leptospirosis in Brazil between 2010 and 2023: Identifying high-risk regions and gender-specific patterns.

BACKGROUND: Leptospirosis is a globally neglected zoonotic disease with heightened transmission in tropical regions. Brazil bears a disproportionate burden in Latin America, driven by socio-economic vulnerability, urban infrastructure deficiencies, occupational exposure, and hydrological factors such as rainfall and flooding. Despite its significance, spatio-temporal patterns of leptospirosis across Brazil's diverse regions remain poorly understood. This study examines the spatial distribution, temporal dynamics, and gender-specific patterns of leptospirosis risk in Brazil from 2010 to 2023.

Understanding the COVID-19 pandemic through bayesian spatio-temporal modeling of several outcomes.

Understanding the spatio-temporal dynamics of past pandemics and the factors driving these patterns can enhance preparedness against future pandemics. This study aimed to investigate the COVID-19 pandemic by analyzing the spatio-temporal variations in infections, hospitalizations, deaths and reinfections. We conducted a retrospective analysis of data from the adult population of the Basque Country at Primary Care Unit level from March 1, 2020 to January 9, 2022. Using a Bayesian hierarchical spatio-temporal model, we estimated relative risks for each outcome, accounting for the effects of a de

Different spatio-temporal strategies for controlling a striking gesture to slide an object toward a target distance.

Humans never perform the same movement twice, and there is interindividual variability in the spatio-temporal regulation of movements. The objective of the present study was to investigate the relationship between spatio-temporal strategies and motor coordination strategies involved in controlling the impact speed during a striking gesture. The literature suggests three distinct strategies for spatio-temporal control of the ballistic strike to cope with task demand: varying strike amplitude while keeping duration constant; keeping amplitude constant while modulating duration; or adjusting both

Spatio-temporal evolution of canine rabies in Tunisia, 2011-2016.

Tunisia is an endemic country for dog mediated rabies. An increase in canine rabies cases during the last decade has been suspected. Since no studies have been conducted on rabies spatial distribution, the present work was focused on spatiotemporal evolution of rabies in Tunisia during the 2011-2016 period with a special focus on the reservoir species. Data collected concerned suspected dogs that originate from the whole country. Surveillance indicators such as positive fractions and number of suspected dogs received at the laboratory have been calculated. Spatiotemporal hotspots were then map

Multivariate modelling of infectious disease surveillance data.

This paper describes a model-based approach to analyse multivariate time series data on counts of infectious diseases. It extends a method previously described in the literature to deal with possible dependence between disease counts from different pathogens. In a spatio-temporal context it is proposed to include additional information on global dispersal of the pathogen in the model. Two examples are given: the first describes an analysis of weekly influenza and meningococcal disease counts from Germany. The second gives an analysis of the spatio-temporal spread of influenza in the U.S.A., 19

Providing spatial support during a major cholera outbreak in Port-au-Prince, Haiti: Creative mapping solutions in a challenging data poor environment.

In this paper we describe the spatial data challenges faced in terms of providing accurate and timely analysis for a clinic during a cholera epidemic that spread through Port au Prince, Haiti in late 2022. This "triage" spatial epidemiology involved developing a bespoke geocoder that allowed for weekly maps of spread to be created in near real time. Resulting case data were also analyzed using a novel grid heatmapping approach which considers the epidemiological curve for each neighborhood. Adding further complexity during this period to both the data generation, and explaining cholera amplifi
