Administrative challenges to working with HIV-positive clients: experiences of mental health and substance abuse program directors in Florida.

Administrators of publicly-funded mental health and substance abuse programs described their agencies' activities, policy development, the administrative impediments, and training needs related to caring for HIV-infected clients. Almost all have served HIV-infected clients and admit clients to their programs regardless of HIV status. The administrators reported little staff opposition to working with this clientele. Liability and confidentiality concerning testing and client/staff safety were major concerns. The difficulty of providing needed medical care and the expense of treating such clien

Flip the Triangle: using quality improvement methods to embed a positive behaviour support approach on a medium secure forensic ward for men with intellectual disabilities.

Incidents of violence and aggression are serious concerns on a secure ward for people with intellectual disabilities and are often met with increases in physical and restrictive interventions. However, these interventions are usually high risk for both patients and staff and are ineffectual in promoting long-term behaviour change. This study aimed to promote positive culture change and embed the evidence-based practice of positive behaviour support by shifting focus and efforts from the use of physical and restrictive interventions to manage crises to intervening positively and proactively to

Navigating Leadership Challenges: Care Home Managers' and their Staffs' Experiences of Enabling Person-Centred Dementia Care, A Qualitative Study.

Care home managers' leadership is widely recognised as shaping how staff provide care for people living with dementia. However, evidence remains limited on what enables managers to enact this role and sustain person-centred approaches within day-to-day care. This study explored managers and staffs' experiences of facilitating person-centred care using an interpretative phenomenological approach. Twenty participants (ten managers and ten staff) from ten care homes took part in online semi-structured interviews. Data were analysed using Colaizzi's seven-step method. Participants viewed managers

Teaching staff as gatekeepers for student mental health in higher education: findings from an exploratory sequential mixed-methods study on mental health promotion, psychological crises, and stigma.

BACKGROUND: Mental health problems among university students are highly prevalent, while stigma and limited help-seeking remain major barriers to support utilization. Teaching staff can act as important gatekeepers who recognise distress, encourage help-seeking, and contribute to psychologically supportive learning environments. However, their role in student mental health promotion remains insufficiently understood. METHODS: This exploratory sequential mixed-methods study combined a qualitative focus group involving five students from two German universities and an anonymous online survey of

A qualitative examination of the evolving role of sports technology in collegiate coaching.

Coaches play a central role in shaping athlete performance and development. In collegiate sports, coaches must balance competitive goals with the broader needs of student-athletes. As technology becomes more available in sports, it is becoming increasingly embedded in the workflows and decision-making processes of coaching staff. While many recognize the growing presence of these tools in sports, there is limited understanding about how coaching staff select and integrate these tools into their professional practice. This study addresses this gap by investigating (1) the types of technologies

The mediating effect of severity of client aggression on burnout between hospital inpatient and community residential staff who support adults with intellectual disabilities.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: To compare exposure to client aggressive behaviour, perceived self-efficacy in managing this behaviour and burnout between community residential group home and specialised hospital inpatient staff who provide care for adults with intellectual disabilities (ID). To assess the mediating role of aggression exposure on burnout in these two staff groups. BACKGROUND: Aggressive behaviour is a common indication for admission to hospital so these staff typically experience more frequent and severe forms compared to staff working in the community. There have been mixed results in

Music in Mind Training: Producing a theory of change model to evaluate the implementation of an improvisation-based music-making training programme for care home staff working with people with dementia.

BackgroundIn the UK, care home staff are often involved in musical practices as part of their professional activities. However, to date there is a lack of relational evidence that underpins improvisational music-making programmes in care homes, as related to the wellbeing of care home staff and musicians who deliver such work. This process evaluation accesses Manchester Camerata's 20-week 'Music in Mind Training' programme for care home staff working with people living with dementia in care homes, with a focus on care home staff.Aims(i) To produce a Theory of Change model outlining the core me

Staff Perspectives on Interventions for Confabulation in Brain Injury and Dementia.

OBJECTIVE: Providing inaccurate narratives of events (confabulation) is a commonly reported difficulty for people with brain injuries and dementia. We aimed to capture staff perceptions on the frequency and cause of confabulation, as well as interventions they find acceptable and effective. METHODS: We surveyed staff in dementia and brain injury services using convenience sampling. We developed a bespoke survey capturing staff views on confabulation prevalence, context, causes, the acceptability and effectiveness of interventions, and staff demographics such as education and experience. A systematic review and meta-synthesis of qualitative studies that investigate the emotional experiences of staff working in homeless settings.

Homelessness is a pervasive issue in society, and government policies have highlighted the need to focus on the experience of front-line staff in homelessness settings. The aim of this meta-synthesis was to draw together the available research to further understanding of the experiences of staff working with homeless people. A systematic search was conducted across four electronic databases (ASSIA, PsycInfo, Sociological Abstracts and Web of Science) from the date of their inception. Qualitative research exploring the emotional experiences of staff working in homeless settings was identified.

Supporting Patients with Psychosis in the Community To Stand Up and Move More: Perspectives of Community Mental Health Staff.

People with psychosis typically show high levels of sedentary behaviour and low levels of physical activity. Effective interventions are needed, and staff will play a crucial role in implementation. Aims: To understand staff perspectives on reducing sedentary behaviour and increasing physical activity. Eighteen staff from NHS mental health trust community teams were interviewed, with data analysed using reflexive thematic analysis. Four themes were developed: (1) Choosing to target movement: staff recognise the need to address movement but struggle to prioritise it; (2) Encouraging but not ste
