The strategic functionalization of an unsaturated macrolide precursor enabled the most concise syntheses of these natural products to date and provides convenient, flexible access to stereodefined macrolides to streamline medicinal chemistry explorations. Notably, this synthetic route does not depend on protecting group manipulations that traditionally define synthesis planning for polyhydroxylated natural products of polyketide origin. Airway surgery poses a host of unique challenges to both the surgical and anesthesiology teams. Accordingly, there are a variety of surgical, anesthetic, and airway management options to be strategically considered. Management can be challenging during multidisciplinary preoperative planning, during the surgical procedure itself, and during recovery. In this review, emphasis is placed on anesthesia challenges for patients undergoing major tracheal or carinal surgery with specific considerations related to perioperative management.

Parenteral nutrition (PN) is essential for patients with chronic intestinal failure but poses significant challenges during pregnancy because of increased nutrition needs and associated risks such as central line-associated bloodstream infections.
