AIM: Mature cystic teratoma is the most common kind of ovarian germ tumor. However, malignant transformation is uncommon, differentiated thyroid carcinoma is even rare. Objective: To describe the clinicopathologic features, diagnosis and differential diagnosis of ovarian carcinoid tumors. Methods: A retrospective chart review was performed of all patients diagnosed with primary ovarian carcinoid tumors at Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Centre from 2007 to 2017. Results: The histologic analysis of these carcinoid tumors revealed 3 were insular, 1 was trabecular, 1 was mucinous, and 10 were strumal. Side-effects and complications of lithium therapy were examined by evaluation of data registered from 73 patients. Transitory subjective complaints would often occur during the initial phase of therapy, but they do not require any additional therapy. Occasional development of struma and sometimes high increase of body weight require regular controls of these values. Disposing factors concerning the possible occurrence of epileptic seizures and extra-pyramidal disorders under lithium therapy are Melipramin as well as organic cerebral lesions.

Primary ovarian carcinoids are very rare tumors that belong to the germ cell family of ovarian malignancies. Foreign body ingestion is a well-recognized and relative common problem. Most foreign bodies pass spontaneously and uneventfully through the digestive tract. In some cases, however, the ingestion of foreign bodies is associated with a high risk of complications because of their size or shape or the hosts medical status. We report a case of successful laparoscopic removal of an accidentally ingested pin that was penetrating the anterior gastric wall in a immunosuppressed patient. After removal of the pin, the opening of the gastric wall was closed with an extracorporeal hand-suturing technique.
