Catla catla fingerlings were reared in freshwater and exposed to 15.5 ppm concentration of lead for 60 days. The morphological changes on the gill of the C. catla fingerlings due to lead intoxication and the effect of DMSA (meso 2,3-dimercaptosuccinic acid) on the affected tissues were observed using Scanning Electron Microscope. We report a 12-year-old girl with a long history of constant urinary dribbling and apparently only a left kidney. Using a multimodality approach involving the fusion of MR urography and (99m)Tc-dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA) SPECT datasets, it was finally possible to exactly localize the very small dystopic, dysplastic right kidney and its ectopic ureter draining into the vagina.

The interaction of the VO2+ cation with meso-2,3-dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA) was investigated by electron absorption spectroscopy in aqueous solution at different pH values. The spectral behavior, complemented with a spectrophotometric titration, shows the generation of a [VO(DMSA)2]2- complex in which the oxocation interacts with two pairs of deprotonated -SH groups of the acid. PURPOSE: Most pediatric surgical teams have adopted nonoperative treatment for a traumatic kidney lesion in children. In the emergency setting and at long-term followup dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA) scintigraphy enables us to identify the consequences on global renal function as well as on the function of each individual kidney.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Eight boys and 12 girls between 0.6 and 15.9 years old (average age 9.7) were evaluated after including renal trauma, minor and major injury in 10 each. Scintigraphy was performed 8 days and 6 months after injury. The tracer used was 2 MBq./kg.

The efficacy of meso-2,3-dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA) was evaluated in workers occupationally exposed to lead (Pb; blood level >50 microg/dL). Ten men were given 600 mg of DMSA per orem daily, for five days. Pb concentrations of whole blood and urine were determined throughout therapy. OBJECTIVE: To compare the effects of Gandou I (GD, a Chinese herbal preparation) and dimercaptosuccinate acid (DMSA) in treating Wilson disease (WD).
METHODS: Ninety-four patients with WD were divided into 2 groups, 32 cases in the GD group and 62 in the DMSA group, they were treated with GD and DMSA respectively. The therapeutic course was 4 weeks for both groups. Modified Goldstein's Degree was adopted to evaluate the clinical effect.

OBJECTIVES: Crossed renal ectopia is an uncommon congenital anomaly with little or no clinical repercussion. An empty renal fossa is not an infrequent ultrasound finding and an anomalous contralateral ectopic kidney can be seen occasionally.
METHODS/RESULTS: We report on three clinical cases with an empty renal fossa detected by ultrasound. Scintiscanning with 99mTc DMSA permitted precise diagnosis of the existing malformation.

Dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA) was labeled with 97Ru both with and without the addition of SnCl.2H2O. The tin-containing preparation was found to induce higher cortical deposition of 97Ru-DMSA than the tin-free preparation. Visualization of the renal cortex was excellent 4 to 48 hours after injection in normal dogs with renal insufficiency. It is concluded that 97Ru-(Sn+2)-DMSA is a potentially useful renal imaging agent when delayed scintigraphy is necessary because of decompensaton of the kidneys.

A critical challenge in addressing Pb toxicity lies in its diagnosis, as it often presents asymptomatically, with many symptoms overlapping with other medical conditions.
