Prevalence and Reasons for Extraction of Endodontically Treated Teeth in Adult Nigerians.

AIM: Teeth extraction is an important problem in elder patients. Although some of these teeth have been endodontically treated, many of them may be subjected to extraction. The reasons for extraction are important for prevention planning in further patients. The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence and important reasons for extraction of endodontically treated teeth in adult Nigerians. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study involved a retrospective examination of 2,000 case files in the archives of the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital. Out of the 2,000 case files, 650 concerned en

Tooth fragment reattachment following crown root fracture: a case report.

A 32-year-old man presented with a complicated crown-root fracture of a maxillary lateral incisor. The fracture extended subgingivally, and apical to the alveolar bone crest, invading the biologic width. Flap surgery to expose the fractured root face was performed and the coronal tooth fragment reattached with a dual-cure resin adhesive. Examination six months after treatment revealed periodontal health, good aesthetics and normal function.

The fracture strength and the failure mode of lithium disilicate or resin nano ceramics as a crown, overlay, or endocrown restoration on endodontically treated teeth.

INTRODUCTION: Different materials and restorative concepts have been proposed over the years to restore endodontically treated teeth (ETT). Monolithic ceramic and composite restoration can be lute to the tooh, without the use of a post. However, little is known how the material stiffness and presence of a composite core will affect the survival and failure mode. The objective of this in-vitro study was to evaluate the fracture strength and failure mode of endodontically treated molars, restored with ceramic or hybrid composite monolithic restoration, in the presence of absence of a composite c

Effect of bone defect width and a ferrule on the fracture characteristics of vertically fractured teeth reattached with adhesive resin cement: An in vitro study.

This study aimed to clarify the effects of vertical bone defect width and a ferrule on fracture of the fragments of fractured tooth reattached with adhesive resin cement (reattached tooth). The reattached tooth was built up by a fiber post and composite resin core for abutment and formed to the abutment with or without a ferrule. The vertical bone defect was fabricated with a V-shaped defect in different widths. The fracture load was evaluated using a universal testing machine. The vertical bone defect did not affect the fracture load, but a ferrule increased the root fracture load. For the sp

Histological observations of periradicular healing following root canal treatment.

The purpose of this study was to observe histologically the sequence of events leading to resolution of periradicular tissues, with a view to advancing the perception of periapical healing. Our material consisted of periapical specimens obtained from 15 single-rooted, endodontically treated teeth of patients aged 25-40 years. All the teeth required extraction because of complicated crown-root fracture following trauma, iatrogenic aetiology (cervical root resorption following bleaching) or extensive carious lesions. The patients were informed that, based on their clinical condition, surgical pr
