Effect of LED-mediated-photobiomodulation therapy on orthodontic tooth movement and root resorption in rats.

The aim of this experimental study was to evaluate the effects of light-emitting diode-mediated-photobiomodulation therapy (LPT), on the rate of orthodontic tooth movement (TM) and orthodontically induced root resorption, in rats. Twenty male 12-week-old Wistar rats were separated into two groups (control and LPT) and 50 cN of force was applied between maxillary left molar and incisor with a coil spring. In the treatment group, LPT was applied with an energy density of 20 mW/cm(2) over a period of 10 consecutive days directly over the movement of the first molar teeth area. The distance betwee

Uncommon crown-root fracture treated with adhesive tooth fragment reattachment: 7 years of follow-up.

Crown-root fractures account for 5% of all fractures in permanent teeth and can involve enamel, dentin, and cementum. Depending on whether there is pulpal involvement, these problems may be classified as complicated (which are more common) or noncomplicated. The treatment depends on the level of the fracture line, root length and/or morphology, and esthetic needs. Several treatment strategies are available for esthetic and functional rehabilitation in crown-root fractures. Adhesive tooth fragment reattachment is the most conservative restorative option when the tooth fragment is available and

Double 'pink tooth' associated with extensive internal root resorption after orthodontic treatment: a case report.

Advanced internal resorption affecting the crown of teeth may result in the appearance of a 'pink tooth', which, when located in the root canal, can perforate the external root surface. Therapeutically, this condition represents a clinical challenge and normally requires a combined endodontic and surgical focus. Presented herein are cases of double 'pink tooth' which appeared at different times after orthodontic treatment. In the most severe case, upon radiographic examination and computed tomography, the maxillary right central incisor presented an internal resorption, extending from the pulp

The influence of artificial tooth root materials on temperature distribution in peri-implantitis for photothermal therapy.

BackgroundA representative method for compensating for tooth loss is implant placement. Dental implants consist of a crown, an abutment, and an artificial tooth root, and are made of various materials. Proper care is essential for the long-term use of implants, and negligence in care can lead to inflammation around the implant. The most representative inflammation that occurs around implants is peri-implantitis, and various laser treatments are being studied recently to eliminate it.ObjectiveIn this study, the effect of implant materials on temperature rise within inflamed tissue was analyzed

Complications of Intracanal Irrigation During Root Canal Therapy of a Maxillary Canine Tooth in a Cat.

This case describes a previously unreported complication of maxillary canine root canal therapy in a cat. A 5-year-old Russian Blue cat was presented with a complicated crown fracture (pulp exposure) of its left maxillary canine tooth (204). To salvage the tooth, root canal therapy was initiated but not completed due to hemorrhage within the canal. The procedure was staged. On recovery from the procedure, unilateral facial swelling and corneal ulceration were observed. This was consistent with retrograde passage of sodium hypochlorite through the nasolacrimal duct, inducing chemical injury to

Microstructural volumetric analysis of lateral ridge augmentation using differently conditioned tooth roots.

OBJECTIVES: Previous research revealed that autogenous tooth roots may be biologically equivalent to conventional bone grafts for lateral ridge augmentation. However, these analyses were limited to two dimensions, whereas healing is a volumetric process. The present study aimed at volumetrically assessing the microstructure following lateral ridge augmentation using extracted tooth roots. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The roots of differently conditioned maxillary premolars (i.e., healthy: PM-C; endodontically treated: PM-E; ligature-induced periodontitis: PM-P) and retromolar cortical autogenous bon

Influence of Tooth Orientation on the Detection of Vertical Root Fracture in Cone-beam Computed Tomography.

INTRODUCTION: The purpose of this study was to assess the influence of tooth orientation in relation to the projection plane of the x-rays on the detection of vertical root fracture (VRF) with different filling materials using cone-beam computed tomographic (CBCT) imaging. METHODS: Thirty single-rooted human teeth were endodontically instrumented, and VRF was induced in half of the sample. The roots were individually placed in the dental socket of a phantom head composed of a dry human skull and mandible, and CBCT images were obtained of each root with the longitudinal axis in 2 orientations:

Periosteum as a lateral pedicle graft for the treatment of single tooth root recession: A novel approach.

The treatment of gingival recession defects is indicated for esthetic and functional reasons to reduce root sensitivity, to remove muscle pull, to create or augment keratinized tissue, and to prevent disease progression. The presence of sufficient amount of periosteum adjacent to gingival recession defects makes it a suitable graft. The adult human periosteum is a highly vascular connective tissue with immense regenerative potential. It contains fibroblasts, osteogenic progenitor cells, and stem cells as a result of which it has the ability to differentiate into fibroblast, osteoblast, chondro

Influence of a parafunctional oral habit on root fracture development after trauma to an immature tooth.

Root fractures in immature teeth are rare because the resilience of the alveolar bone is more favorable to the occurrence of luxation. This article reports a case of traumatic injury in an immature permanent tooth that progressed to root fracture, having a parafunctional oral habit as the possible modifying factor of case evolution. A 12-year-old boy presented for treatment complaining of a defective restoration and mild pain on the maxillary right central incisor. The patient had a history of crown fracture in this tooth due to trauma 2 years before. The clinical examination showed healthy gi

The effect of prostaglandin E2 and calcium gluconate on orthodontic tooth movement and root resorption in rats.

Possible modifications in orthodontic tooth movement (OTM) and root resorption as a result of local injections of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) alone and with calcium gluconate (Ca) formed the aim of the present study. Twenty-four 8-week-old male Wistar rats were selected and randomly divided into three groups of eight. Both quadrants of the upper jaws of the first group of animals were used; therefore this group comprised two groups: control and normal. The upper left first molars of these eight animals were not placed under orthodontic force and received no injection, to serve as the normal group,

Interleukin-33 and superoxide dismutase 3 mediates co-achieved tooth movement acceleration and root protection.

BACKGROUND: Achieving co-occurrence of tooth movement acceleration and root protection has been a fascinating challenge. This study investigated how interleukin-33 (IL-33)-superoxide dismutase 3 (SOD3) crosstalk affects the alveolar bone and cementum during orthodontic treatment. METHODS: The effects of IL-33-SOD3 signaling on the immortalized murine cementoblast cell line 30 cells, bone marrow stromal cells, and RAW 264.7 cells were evaluated. In vivo, the distance of orthodontic tooth movement and the volume of root resorption were quantified in mice treated with soluble suppression of tumo

Root resorption associated with minimally invasive surgical acceleration of orthodontic tooth movement: a systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Root resorption (RR) is a critical concern in orthodontics. It is influenced by treatment duration and techniques. Minimally invasive surgically accelerated orthodontics (MISAO) aims to reduce treatment time but may impact RR, necessitating a systematic evaluation of its effects. OBJECTIVE: This review aims to evaluate the impact of MISAO techniques on RR across different types of orthodontic movements compared to conventional techniques. SEARCH METHODS: A systematic search of nine databases and a manual screening of journals were conducted following PRISMA guidelines, with no re

Effects of fixed orthodontic lingual retainers on PDL stress, root resorption risk, and tooth displacement.

To date, no study has compared the effects of CAD/CAM versus flexible multistrand wire (FMS) retainers in the presence/absence of root resorption and/or alveolar crestal bone resorption on the anterior mandibular teeth's stresses/displacements. Therefore, this simulation was conducted. Developed were 8 mandible models with six anterior teeth. Models 1 to 4 had FMS retainers; models 5 to 8 had nickel-titanium CAD/CAM retainers. Models #1 and 5: Both bone and roots were intact; #2 and 6: Only alveolar crests had resorption (2 mm); Models #3 and 7: Only roots had resorption (2 mm); Models #4 and
