MicroRNA Expression Links Transportation Environmental Burden to Late-Stage Triple-Negative Breast Cancer.

Background: Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is an aggressive subtype with persistent disparities in stage at diagnosis. While transportation-related exposures are increasingly recognized as environmental health risks, the biological mechanisms linking these exposures to cancer progression remain unclear. This study evaluated whether tumor microRNAs (miRNAs), which regulate gene expression and tumor behavior, mediate the association between transportation burden and TNBC stage at diagnosis. Methods: We analyzed 434 TNBC cases from the Louisiana Tumor Registry (2009-2019). The transportatio

HSP47 in Mitochondria: Roles in Apoptosis, Signal Transduction, and Protein and Virus Transportation.

Mitochondria are essential organelles for cellular energy production and the regulation of diverse biological processes, including apoptosis, redox homeostasis, and intracellular signaling. Although mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (mtROS) act as critical mediators of these functions, the molecular mechanisms underlying mtROS regulation remain poorly understood. This review summarizes current insights into the role of heat shock protein 47 (HSP47) in mitochondrial oxidative stress and mtROS-mediated cellular responses. In addition to its classical function as an endoplasmic reticulum (ER)

Liquid crystal monomers induce placental development and progesterone release dysregulation through transplacental transportation.

Embryonic and fetal development can be affected during gestation by exposure to xenobiotics that cross the placenta. Liquid crystal monomers (LCMs) are emerging contaminants commonly found in indoor environments; however, whether they can cross the placenta and affect placental development remains unexplored. Here, we develop an evaluation system that integrates human biomonitoring, uterine perfusion in pregnant rats, and placental cells. We find fourteen out of the fifty-six LCMs that are detected in maternal and cord serum samples from ninety-three healthy pregnant women, at median levels of

cGAMP promotes inner blood-retinal barrier breakdown through P2RX7-mediated transportation into microglia.

BACKGROUND: Impairment of the inner blood-retinal barrier (iBRB) leads to various blinding diseases including diabetic retinopathy (DR). The cGAS-STING pathway has emerged as a driving force of cardiovascular destruction, but its impact on the neurovascular system is unclear. Here, we show that cGAMP, the endogenous STING agonist, causes iBRB breakdown and retinal degeneration thorough P2RX7-mediated transport into microglia. METHODS: Extracellular cGAMP and STING pathway were determined in tissue samples from patients with proliferative DR (PDR) and db/db diabetic mice. Histological, molecul

Prediction of cost and schedule performance in post-hurricane reconstruction of transportation infrastructure.

This study aimed to develop predictive models that could be used to estimate the cost and schedule performance of reconstruction of transportation infrastructure damaged by hurricanes and to determine the predictors that are robustly connected to the developed models. Stepwise multiple linear regression and extreme bound analysis (EBA) were used to develop the models and determine the robust and fragile predictors, respectively. The results demonstrated that seven cost performance predictors and nine schedule performance predictors accounted for Adjusted R-Squared of 92.4% and 99.2%, respectiv

Intermodal comparison of commuters' exposure to VOCs between public, private, and active transportation.

Urban populations are exposed to a multitude of traffic-related air pollutants during daily commutes. This study assessed commuters' exposure to volatile organic compounds (VOCs) during bus, motorcycle, and bicycle commuting, and estimated the VOC inhalation dose. Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene (BTEX) were the main compounds detected, contributing 58 - 68% to ΣVOC (sum of the concentrations of all detected VOCs) in different travel modes. The mean ΣVOC exposure concentration was higher for motorcyclists than for cyclists and bus commuters. However, due to cyclists' higher minute ve

In recent years, with the development of science and technology, people have more and more choices for daily travel. However, assisting with various mobile intelligent services by transportation mode detection has become more urgent for the refinement of human activity identification. Although much work has been done on transportation mode detection, accurate and reliable transportation mode detection remains challenging. In this paper, we propose a novel transportation mode detection algorithm, namely T2Trans, based on a temporal convolutional network (i.e., TCN), which employs multiple light

Can Lymph Transportation Capacity Predict Treatment Efficacy of Lower Extremity Lymphedema by LVA?

Treatment outcomes for lower extremity lymphedema (LEL) using multiple lymphaticovenular anastomoses (LVA) are still uncertain. Classification of progression of lymphedema by disease staging is a potential preoperative predictor of the efficacy of treatment, but it is difficult to judge progression of lymphedema objectively. Recent studies have indicated that lymph pump dysfunction, which reflects lymph transportation capacity, is associated with lymphedema progression. Indocyanine green (ICG) lymphography, a minimally invasive modality for pathophysiological assessment of lymphedema, can be u

Tailoring of P-glycoprotein for effective transportation of actives across blood-brain-barrier.

P-Glycoprotein serves as a gatekeeper in the blood-brain-barrier wherein, it shows a vital part in the elimination of xenobiotics, drugs, foreign molecules etc. and guards the central nervous system from infections and external toxic molecules by functioning as an efflux transporter. It plays an essential role in various brain-related conditions like Parkinsonism, Alzheimer's disease, depression, cancer, etc. and terminates the entry of therapeutic agents across blood-brain-barrier which remains a significant challenge serving as major hindrance in pharmacotherapy of disease. The physiological

Fuel Prediction and Reduction in Public Transportation by Sensor Monitoring and Bayesian Networks.

We exploit the use of a controller area network (CAN-bus) to monitor sensors on the buses of local public transportation in a big European city. The aim is to advise fleet managers and policymakers on how to reduce fuel consumption so that air pollution is controlled and public services are improved. We deploy heuristic algorithms and exhaustive ones to generate Bayesian networks among the monitored variables. The aim is to describe the relevant relationships between the variables, to discover and confirm the possible cause-effect relationships, to predict the fuel consumption dependent on the
