OBJECTIVE: To explore the use of helmets in skiers and snowboarders injured at ski runs and terrain parks in Colorado and the northeast United States and to examine differences in head injury severity in terrain parks as compared to ski runs.

We present a case of complete traumatic extrusion of the distal 40% of the ulna through the hypothenar eminence in the context of an open, both-bone forearm fracture and spinal cord transection. To the best of our knowledge, this specific trauma is unique to the literature, and, therefore, there is no standard treatment approach. Our patient was managed with irrigation and débridement along with open reduction and internal fixation of the radius fracture. No reconstruction of the ulna was performed. The patient reported excellent functional results at 13-month follow-up.

Open-globe injuries (OGI) can lead to significant visual impairment. The Ocular Trauma Score (OTS) is the most widely recognized tool for predicting visual outcomes. Although deficits in attentional control have been linked to posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), the mechanism that may account for this association has not been fully elucidated. The present study examined rumination as a mediator of the relationship between attentional control and PTSD symptoms.
