Metastatic pulmonary calcification mimicking pulmonary tuberculosis: A case report.

Metastatic pulmonary calcification (MPC) is characterized by deposition of calcium in the normal lung parenchyma secondary to elevation of serum calcium. Most patients are asymptomatic and routine chest radiograph is not sensitive to make the diagnosis. Further imaging is needed such as computed tomography (CT) which typically shows small centrilobular nodules in the upper lobes. We report a case of a 30-year-old woman with end stage kidney disease who was diagnosed with pulmonary tuberculosis which was then revised to metastatic pulmonary calcification. The CT thorax feature for this patient

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis misdiagnosed as sputum-negative pulmonary tuberculosis.

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), also known as cryptogenic fibrosing alveolitis, is one of a spectrum of idiopathic interstitial pneumonia. IPF is an increasingly common condition which poses many diagnostic and therapeutic challenges leading to misdiagnosis and mismanagement. We presented a 55-year-old male textile trader who was initially managed as sputum-negative pulmonary tuberculosis before histology report. He presented to our clinic with Breathlessness and cough of 3 years and 2.5 years, respectively. He had commenced anti-tuberculosis two months before presentation without signifi

Pulmonary mucormycosis mimicking as pulmonary tuberculosis: a case report.

Pulmonary Mucormycosis is an uncommon disease caused by fungi of class Zygomycetes. It occurs predminantly in an immunodeficient host most common risk factor being diabetes mellitus. The lesions are localized in the lungs or the mediastinum. We are reporting a case of 70 years old male, having cough, haemoptysis, fever and chest pain. He was on antituberculosis treatment (RHEZ) for last 10 days and was later found to have Pulmonary Mucormycosis on further evaluation.

[Extrapulmonary tuberculosis versus pulmonary tuberculosis: epidemiological, diagnosis and evolutive aspects].

INTRODUCTION: Tuberculosis remains a public health problem around the world. Several factors can influence its location. The objective of this research is to analyze the factors influencing the diagnostic and evolutive aspects of extra-pulmonary tuberculosis (PET) compared to pulmonary tuberculosis (PT) at the anti-tuberculosis center of Adjame (Ivory Coast). PATIENTS AND METHODS: This is a retrospective comparative study between PET and PT's patients based on the diagnostic and evolutive aspects of tuberculosis cases reported from January 1st, 2010 to December 31st, 2012 at the Adjame anti-t

Coexistence of pulmonary thromboembolism and pulmonary tuberculosis: a diagnostic dilemma.

A man in his early 50s with previously treated pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) presented with a 3-month history of cough, expectoration and progressive breathlessness, accompanied by significant weight loss. Examination revealed tachycardia, tachypnoea, hypoxaemia and unilateral diminished breath sounds. Investigations showed anaemia, leucocytosis and a homogeneous opacity on the left side of the CXR. ECG and echocardiography suggested pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE). A CT pulmonary angiogram confirmed a chronic embolus and a severely fibrosed left lung. A comprehensive thrombophilia workup yielde

[A case of pulmonary sarcoidosis mimicking relapse of pulmonary tuberculosis].

A 61-year-old woman was suspected of relapse of pulmonary tuberculosis. A chest X-ray film taken at a regular health check-up suggested relapse of pulmonary tuberculosis in a 61-year-old woman. Chest X-ray revealed irregular shadow with calcification in the upper lobe of the left lung and pulmonary tuberculosis was initially diagnosed a despite a negative reaction for acid-fast bacilli on examination of her sputum and bronchial lavage. Chest CT revealed thickened bronchi and blood vessels and nodules in the lung field. Transbronchial by biopsy failed to reveal caseating epithelioid cell granul

A scoring system developed from a nomogram to differentiate active pulmonary tuberculosis from inactive pulmonary tuberculosis.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to develop and validate a scoring system based on a nomogram of common clinical metrics to discriminate between active pulmonary tuberculosis (APTB) and inactive pulmonary tuberculosis (IPTB). PATIENTS AND METHODS: A total of 1096 patients with pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) admitted to Wuhan Jinyintan Hospital between January 2017 and December 2019 were included in this study. Of these patients with PTB, 744 were included in the training cohort (70%; 458 patients with APTB, and 286 patients with IPTB), and 352 were included in the validation cohort (30%; 220 patients

Congenital tuberculosis because of misdiagnosed maternal pulmonary tuberculosis during pregnancy.

We report the death of an infant due to severe sepsis caused by congenital tuberculosis following treatment with antituberculous drugs and antibiotics, who was born to a mother with misdiagnosed symptomatic pulmonary tuberculosis during pregnancy. Therefore, pregnant women with chronic cough and constitutional symptoms must be examined for pulmonary tuberculosis, particularly in tuberculosis endemic areas.

[Concurrent interventions for pulmonary tuberculosis complicated by chronic pleural tuberculosis].

Basing on the literature data analysis the authors suppose the insufficient studying of issues, concerning simultant interventions for pulmonary tuberculosis, coinciding with chronic phthysic pleurytis. Surgical treatment of such processes was performed in 181 patients, total pleurectomy--in 172 (95%) of them, partial--in 9 (5%). Various kinds of pulmonary resection as the additional intervention were performed in 172 (95%) patients, extrapleural thoracoplasty--in 15 (8.3%), diaphragmatic plasty--in 15 (8.3%). In early postoperative period the tuberculosis micobacteria have had disappeared in

Pulmonary miliary tuberculosis and intestinal tuberculosis co-infected with AIDS.

Infections with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and Mycobacterium tuberculosis account for 25 million patients worldwide. Tuberculosis is the most common opportunistic infectious disease in HIV-infected subjects, and HIV infection is a high-risk factor for tuberculosis. The convergence of HIV and tuberculosis is a disaster practically unequalled in medical history. This is a rare case report on the topic of pulmonary miliary tuberculosis and intestinal tuberculosis with AIDS.

Congenital pulmonary tuberculosis associated with maternal cerebral tuberculosis--Florida, 2002.

In 2002, congenital tuberculosis (TB), a rare disease with nonspecific signs and symptoms, was diagnosed in an infant in Florida. If untreated, congenital TB is fatal, which underscores the importance of suspecting congenital TB in newborns and infants who are at risk and who have unexplained febrile illnesses. This report summarizes the investigation of the case in Florida. Health-care practitioners should administer a tuberculin skin test to women who have risks for Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection and treat those who have latent TB infection (LTBI) to prevent maternal and congenital TB

A Case of Laryngeal Tuberculosis, Endobronchial Tuberculosis and Pulmonary Tuberculosis Coexistent in an Immunocompetent Host.

Historically associated with poor prognosis seen in advanced disease, laryngeal tuberculosis (LTB) now represents only 1% of all cases of tuberculosis (TB). The incidence of LTB has decreased drastically with the introduction of anti-tubercular drugs. LTB can be primary or secondary to pulmonary tuberculosis. LTB can mimic laryngeal cancer. We present a case of primary laryngeal TB with descending tracheobronchial spread in an immunocompetent 71-year-old female who developed progressive dysphonia over several months with unintentional weight loss and non-productive cough. Non-contrast enhanced
