Study of incidence of measles and vaccination coverage in Ahmedabad urban slums.

Measles incidence and vaccination coverage survey was carried out in Ahmedabad urban slums in February 2000. A total of 3073 children between 9 to 59 months were studied. The incidence rate of measles was 11.2% (95% C.I-10.04-12.36). Measles vaccination coverage was only 59.88%. There was no gender difference in vaccine coverage or measles incidence rate. Diarrhoea was the most common complication observed among both vaccinated and unvaccinated children and it was significantly more among unvaccinated children. Among 1840 vaccinated children only 529 (28.75%) children received vitamin A along

Evolution of anti-influenza vaccination coverage in Spain from 1993 to 2001.

UNLABELLED: The objective of this study is to describe the evolution of anti-influenza vaccination coverage in Spain from 1993 to 2001. We analysed 55,040 questionnaires taken from the Spanish National Health Surveys from the years 1993, 1995, 1997 and 2001. The reply to the question "Did you vaccinate yourself against influenza during the last campaign?" is the dependent variable. Independent variables were the year of the survey, age, sex and the coexistence of chronic conditions. After adjusting using logistic regression, we found a significant improvement during the study period among thos

Measles vaccination in Africa: by how much could routine coverage be improved?

Assuming that the level of Bacille Calmette Guerin (BCG) coverage gives a measure of access to immunisation services, it is possible to derive what fraction of infants are not immunised against measles due to under-utilisation of existing services (rather than unavailability of services). According to the most recent official statistics, the overall coverage for measles vaccine is 53% in Africa (10% lower than for BCG). This difference amounts to 3 million African children who will not be vaccinated against measles this year even though they probably have access to immunisation services.

[Vaccination coverage in young children and school children in the Bern canton].

In 1995 immunization coverage at 24 months of age and after the first school year was estimated according to the method recommended by the WHO. Vaccination booklets of 840 children born in 1986, 1987, 1988 or 1991 in the Canton of Berne were reviewed. The response rate was high (96%). The immunization coverage at 24 months of age were for measles 74%, for mumps and rubella (MMR) 72% higher than for diphteria (D), tetanus (T) (62%) and poliomyelitis (polio) (60%) (4 doses) (p < 0.0001). Of the Swiss children born in 1991 32% were vaccinated against tuberculosis. Children 24 months of age of all

Disparities in Recombinant Zoster Vaccine Coverage in the United States.

Recombinant zoster vaccine (RZV) was recommended in 2020 in the US for adults aged ≥50 years. This retrospective study used cross-sectional data from 2020 National Health Interview Survey respondents aged ≥50 years. Sample weights were applied to allow results to be representative of the non-institutionalized US population. Associations between respondent characteristics and coverage were explored using logistic regression. An estimated 14.1% of US adults aged ≥50 years had received ≥1 dose of RZV by 2020. Coverage varied by race and ethnicity (6.3% Hispanic, 6.9% Black/African American, 13.7%

Vaccine coverage for Lebanese citizens and Syrian refugees in Lebanon.

ARTICLE HISTORY: Following the refugee crisis in Lebanon, the on-going inflow of Syrian refugees presented new challenges to optimal immunization coverage for all the children living in the country. Healthcare facilities have been overburdened during this period and the country witnessed outbreaks of many infectious diseases. Thus, the evaluation of vaccine compliance for mandatory and non-mandatory vaccines as well as the factors affecting the vaccination rate among Lebanese residents and Syrian refugees is fundamental. BACKGROUND: Since 2012, Lebanon has hosted around 1.2 million Syrian ref

Diphtheria in Lao PDR: Insufficient Coverage or Ineffective Vaccine?

BACKGROUND: During late 2012 and early 2013 several outbreaks of diphtheria were notified in the North of the Lao People's Democratic Republic. The aim of this study was to determine whether the re-emergence of this vaccine-preventable disease was due to insufficient vaccination coverage or reduction of vaccine effectiveness within the affected regions. METHODS: A serosurvey was conducted in the Huaphan Province on a cluster sampling of 132 children aged 12-59 months. Serum samples, socio-demographic data, nutritional status and vaccination history were collected when available. Anti-diphther

Vaccine coverage in CF children: A French multicenter study.

BACKGROUNDS: Recent reports have pointed the low vaccine coverage in patients with chronic diseases. Data are lacking in patients with cystic fibrosis (CF). Gaining more information on coverage both for mandatory vaccines and those more specifically recommended would help to optimize care of these patients. METHODS: Data were extracted from the "MucoFlu" study, which was a prospective study performed in 2009 in the 5 cystic fibrosis centers of the Paris metropolitan area. Data on mandatory and recommended vaccines in CF were collected in the health booklet and compared to the coverage of the

[The medical care and vaccinal coverage of the children of Filipino mothers].

We present data on the access to health care services and vaccination coverage of a sample of children born to Filipino mothers in the city of Barcelona (Spain). The sample was obtained by snowball sampling from the community reference centers for the identified migrant Filipino population. Access to public health care services is much lower for this population than for the whole population, which causes use of private services to compensate for this shortcoming. The causes are related to the residence and working status of a segment of this migrant population. Vaccination coverage for two and

Recent trends in vaccine coverage and confidence: A cause for concern.

Declining trends in vaccine confidence come at a time when routine immunization coverage for children has slumped to a decades-long low. With some of the largest losses in confidence experienced among young adults, this is a concerning trend with the potential for long-term implications. This article reflects on recent research examining the levels and trends of vaccine confidence over time and across the globe, the drivers influencing confidence, and the role of the COVID-19 pandemic in shaping confidence today. Timely examination of the causes and consequences of waning vaccine confidence an
