Dietary Behavior, Physical Activity, and 24-Hour Rhythm Coherence: A Digital Phenotyping Perspective on Vascular and Glycemic Health.

BACKGROUND: Cardiometabolic risk is shaped not only by the amount of food intake and physical activity but also by their timing and regularity across the 24 h cycle. We propose rhythm coherence as a hypothesis-generating framework describing the temporal stability and alignment of eating, physical activity, and sleep. Its vascular and glycemic relevance has not yet been prospectively validated. METHODS: This semi-structured narrative review was supported by a transparent, staged evidence-identification process using PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science Core Collection. Main searches used a 2020

[Expert consensus on management strategy of non-traditional vascular health risk factors in China(2022 the first report)].

Vascular related diseases of the heart, brain and peripheral vascular system are main injury for human health. To change this situation, we need to change the previous diagnosis and treatment mode. Non-traditional risk factors may affect vascular health. We do not have uniform standard for evaluation and management of non-traditional vascular health risk factors. We should not only focus on the traditional risk factors, but also consider the impact of the risk factors on vascular health which have not received enough attention nor identified in the past, such as Beijing vascular health stratif…

Associations between physical activity and cardiorespiratory fitness with vascular health phenotypes in older adults: a cross-sectional study.

Objective: We investigated the associations between physical activity (PA) and cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) with vascular health phenotypes in community-dwelling older adults. Methods: This cross-sectional study included 82 participants (66.8 ± 5.2 years; 81% females). Moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) was assessed using accelerometers, and CRF was measured using the distance covered in the 6-min walk test (6MWT). The vascular health markers were as follows: i) arterial function measured as aortic pulse wave velocity (aPWV) estimated using an automatic blood pressure device; and…

Peripheral Arterial Diseases and Diabetes Mellitus: Associations With Quality of Health Measures in Patients Undergoing Percutaneous Vascular Interventions.

BACKGROUND: Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is more prevalent and severe in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) compared with those without DM. Peripheral vascular intervention (PVI) is often used in patients failing conservative management. The association of PVI with health status in diabetic patients has yet to be determined. METHODS: We analyzed the clinical response to PVI in DM (n = 203, 52 %) compared with non-DM patients (n = 183, 48 %), using the Peripheral Arterial Questionnaire (PAQ) for patients during baseline and a maximum 6 months after PVI. We used the PAQ summary score, wh

Estrogen Receptor-Phytoestrogen Interactions in Health and Aging: A Review on Estrogen Receptor Vascular Actions with Proof-of-Concept Data.

Background/Objectives: The menopausal decline in estrogen levels accelerates age-related changes, including visceral adiposity, insulin resistance, sarcopenia, osteoporosis, and endothelial dysfunction. While nutrition independently influences these outcomes, the interactive role of estrogen signaling and nutrient metabolism in healthy aging remains underexplored. This article evaluates these interactions. Methods: We conducted a narrative synthesis of studies examining estrogen's effects on energy balance, adipose regulation, muscle, bone, and cardiovascular health, with an emphasis on estrog…

Effect of Exercise Prior to Sedentary Behavior on Vascular Health Parameters: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Crossover Trials.

BACKGROUND: Sedentary behavior has been shown to negatively affect parameters of endothelial function and central hemodynamics, both of which are closely associated with vascular health. Exercise prior to sedentary behavior has demonstrated potential as a preventive strategy to mitigate these detrimental effects. To evaluate the impact of exercise prior to sedentary behavior on vascular health parameters in the adult population, a systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted, synthesizing the available body of knowledge. METHODS: A literature search was carried out in 6 databases. For e…

The Role of Osteogenic Effect and Vascular Function in Bone Health in Hypertensive Rats: A Study of Anti-hypertensive and Hemorheologic Drugs.

Vascular dysfunction contributes to the development of osteopenia in hypertensive patients, as decreased blood supply to bones results in tissue damage and dysfunction. The effect of anti-hypertensive medicines on bone mass in hypertensive individuals is inconclusive because of the varied mechanism of their action, and suggests that reducing blood pressure (BP) alone is insufficient to enhance bone mass in hypertension. Pentoxifylline (PTX), a hemorheological drug, improves blood flow by reducing blood viscosity and angiogenesis, also has an osteogenic effect. We hypothesized that improving va

Enterosalivary nitrate metabolism and the microbiome: Intersection of microbial metabolism, nitric oxide and diet in cardiac and pulmonary vascular health.

Recent insights into the bioactivation and signaling actions of inorganic, dietary nitrate and nitrite now suggest a critical role for the microbiome in the development of cardiac and pulmonary vascular diseases. Once thought to be the inert, end-products of endothelial-derived nitric oxide (NO) heme-oxidation, nitrate and nitrite are now considered major sources of exogenous NO that exhibit enhanced vasoactive signaling activity under conditions of hypoxia and stress. The bioavailability of nitrate and nitrite depend on the enzymatic reduction of nitrate to nitrite by a unique set of bacteria

MR imaging of cerebrospinal fluid dynamics in health and disease. On the vascular pathogenesis of communicating hydrocephalus and benign intracranial hypertension.

The CSF flows in the aqueduct and at the foramen magnum were examined in 5 patients with communicating hydrocephalus (HC) and in 10 with benign intracranial hypertension (BIH) as well as in 5 healthy volunteers. As compared to normal individuals, the aqueductal flow in HC was about 10 times larger and the cervical flow was half as large. In BIH the CSF flows were not different from those of normal volunteers. The decreased arterial expansion as reflected in the reduced cervical flow in HC may be due to pathologic changes in the arteries and paravascular spaces. The large aqueductal flow in HC

The effect of two remote exercise programs on cardiorespiratory fitness, cardiac function, and vascular health in patients with breast cancer.

Breast cancer is a common, survivable malignancy affecting women. With improved survival, the off-target effects of chemotherapy, such as a decline in cardiorespiratory fitness and worse cardiovascular outcomes, have been recognized. Exercise training may help mitigate these effects. In this study, patients with breast cancer (N = 24) scheduled to undergo chemotherapy were randomized to either remotely administered high-intensity interval training (HIIT) or moderate-intensity exercise (MOD) based on ACSM guidelines for cancer survivors. HIIT involved three weekly sessions using the 4 × 4 proto
