Creation of Digital and 3D-Printed Models to Teach the Mechanisms of Action of Benzodiazepines (BZDs) to Veterinary Medicine Students.

Benzodiazepines (BZDs) are commonly administered as pre-anesthetic medications in veterinary practice. Understanding the mechanisms of action and function of these compounds in patient animals is thus of utmost importance when training in veterinary medicine. This subject is typically taught through expository lectures using flat diagrams. However, the use of three-dimensional (3D) models could increase students' learning levels and reduce the degree of abstraction related to BZDs. Therefore, the present study aimed to create and evaluate 3D models representing benzodiazepine drugs and their b

From laboratory to clinical application: a narrative review of bacteriophage therapy for antimicrobial-resistant infections in veterinary medicine.

Antimicrobial resistance poses one of the most critical challenges to global health, particularly within veterinary medicine, where antibiotic misuse contributes significantly to multidrug-resistant infections. Bacteriophages have re-emerged as promising biocontrol agents that can target resistant pathogens while preserving host microbiota and environmental balance. However, despite growing experimental evidence, therapeutic implementation remains constrained by heterogeneous methodologies, limited clinical validation, and fragmented regulatory frameworks. This narrative review critically appr

[Nanocarrier in veterinary medicine - a pilot study for the treatment of feline hyperthyroidism with a nano-carrier based thiamazole ointment].

The oral treatment of feline hyperthyroidism with antithyroid drugs often results in gastrointestinal side effects (10-20%). To date only oral formulations are approved although the oral application is not tolerated by all cats. Transdermal therapy can be an alternative. Nanocarriers could be used to ensure adequate transport of active agents through the skin. The present pilot study investigated the efficacy and safety of a novel dermal formulation of thiamazole for the treatment of feline hyperthyroidism. For the first time, amphiphilic dendritic core-multishell-nanocarriers were used. Cats

Veterinary medicinal product usage among food animal producers and its health implications in Central Ethiopia.

BACKGROUND: Antimicrobials and anthelmintics are the most commonly used veterinary drugs to control animal diseases. However, widespread use of these drugs could contribute to the emergence of drug resistance. Information on the practice of antimicrobial usage among food animal raising communities in Central Ethiopia is scarce. We used a standardised questionnaire survey to assess knowledge, awareness, and practices related to drug use and resistance in food animals among the farmers in and around Bishoftu town. RESULTS: Of the total of 220 livestock owners interviewed, around 80% of the resp

The management of risk arising from the use of antimicrobial agents in veterinary medicine in EU/EEA countries - a review.

Antimicrobials are essential medicines for the treatment of many microbial infections in humans and animals. Only a small number of antimicrobial agents with new mechanisms of action have been authorized in recent years for use in either humans or animals. Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) arising from the use of antimicrobial agents in veterinary medicine is a concern for public health due to the detection of increasing levels of resistance in foodborne zoonotic bacteria, particularly gram-negative bacteria, and due to the detection of determinants of resistance such as Extended-spectrum beta-la

Antimicrobial resistance of zoonotic and commensal bacteria in Europe: the missing link between consumption and resistance in veterinary medicine.

The emergence of resistance in food animals has been associated to the consumption of antimicrobials in veterinary medicine. Consequently, monitoring programs have been designed to monitor the occurrence of antimicrobial resistant bacteria. This study analyses the amount of antimicrobial agents used in nine European countries from 2005 to 2011, and compares by univariate analysis the correlations between consumptions of each of the following antimicrobial classes; tetracycline, penicillins, cephalosporins, quinolones and macrolides. An overview of resistance in zoonotic and commensal bacteria

From theory to therapy: a One Health approach guides current and future acid suppressant use in veterinary medicine.

Acid-suppressant drugs (ASDs) have revolutionized the treatment of acid-related disorders such as gastroesophageal reflux and gastrointestinal ulceration in both human and veterinary species. However, continued advancement in this field is dependent on a shared understanding of both human and veterinary research as well as an appreciation for species similarities and differences. In this Currents in One Health article, we will compare the efficacy of and indications for ASDs in humans and small animals, noting species differences and knowledge gaps when applicable. We will also highlight areas

[Animal nutrition in veterinary medicine--actual case reports. Nutritionally related disturbences in bone development in emus and rheas].

Two cases of disturbed health and growth of the skeleton in emus and rheas caused by faults in feeding and mineral supply are reported. 13 of 37 emus developed (beginning in the 3rd week) more and more signs of perosis. The diet fed in this case was based mainly on pelleted diets for piglets and rabbits and unpelleted supplements. The ingesting behaviour (selective intake and refuse of fines and supplements) resulted in an imbalanced mineral intake. In the second case 3 of 15 young rheas showed unphysiological postures of the necks vertebral column. Disposed by an absolutely insufficient calci

Salmonella pathogenesis-based In-silico design and immunoinformatic analysis of multi-epitope vaccine constructs in broiler veterinary medicine.

Salmonellosis, a zoonotic gastrointestinal disease, presents a significant global health burden with a high incidence rate. Transmission primarily occurs through the consumption of contaminated poultry products, although water and contact with asymptomatic animals are also vectors. The disease's pervasiveness has prompted international health organizations to advocate for robust prevention and control strategies. This study focuses on the in-silico design of a multi-epitope vaccine targeting Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium's fimH protein, a fimbriae component crucial for bacterial adhe

Therapeutic Agents Targeting the Nrf2 Signaling Pathway to Combat Oxidative Stress and Intestinal Inflammation in Veterinary and Translational Medicine.

This review synthesizes research on nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) in intestinal health across human, livestock, and mouse models. The Nrf2 signaling pathway serves as a master regulator of cellular antioxidant defenses and a key therapeutic target for intestinal inflammatory disorders, including ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. The interplay between oxidative stress, Nrf2 signaling, and NF-κB inflammatory cascades represents a critical axis in the pathogenesis and resolution of intestinal inflammation. Under normal physiological conditions, Nrf2 remains sequestered
