UNLABELLED: Although rare, malignant melanoma does occur in children. As in adults, prognosis clearly depends on rapid diagnosis and early treatment. We report a rare case of invasive type AB thymoma (WHO classification system) with intracaval and intracardiac extension into the right atrium. A cardiopulmonary bypass facilitated an en bloc excision of the tumor with a lobectomy, along with a combined resection of the right atrium and reconstruction of the bilateral brachiocephalic veins and right atrium. Aggressive surgical intervention should be considered in such cases, as long-term prognosis is primarily dependent on a complete resection of the extended thymoma.

A 54-year-old female was admitted to our hospital for gingival bleeding and was diagnosed as acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL). She received induction therapy according to the AML92 protocol of the Japan Adult Leukemia Study Group (JALSG) with all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) plus chemotherapeutic agents. Pulmonary Langerhans histiocytosis (PLH) is a rare disease due to the accumulation of Langerhans cells at the level of the bronchioles. These dendritic immunocytes form granulomata and destroy the wall of the airway. We report a case of PLH developing at the same time as Hodgkin's lymphoma in a young woman who smoked tobacco and cannabis.
