Can exercise reduce the risk of suicidal ideation and behaviors in youth at school? A 12-month cluster randomized control trial.

Our aim was to investigate the effect of an aerobic exercise intervention on risk of suicidal ideation, behaviors and nonsuicidal self-injury among adolescents. This analysis included secondary outcomes of a randomized controlled trial investigating a 12-month aerobic exercise intervention. The intervention consisted of six months of supervised exercise delivered in a school setting, followed by six months of unsupervised exercise. There were three-four sessions of supervised moderate-intensity activities (60-80 % maximum heart rate) lasting 30 min each, with an additional of 10 min of warm-up

Comparison of the Effect of Stretching Exercises and Mefenamic Acid on the Reduction of Pain and Menstruation Characteristics in Primary Dysmenorrhea: A Randomized Clinical Trial.

OBJECTIVES: Dysmenorrhea is a common gynecologic disorder. Although non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are commonly used, due to their side effects and lack of response in some individuals, other approaches such as exercise have been considered. This study compared the effect of stretching exercises and mefenamic acid on the reduction of pain and menstruation characteristics in primary dysmenorrhea. METHODS: In this randomized clinical trial, 122 female students with moderate to severe dysmenorrhea were assessed and were placed in either the exercise or mefenamic acid group. The exercise p

Effects of acute static stretching and dynamic warm-up protocols on shoulder function in young adult male athletes with shoulder impingement syndrome: a randomized controlled crossover trial.

BACKGROUND: Shoulder impingement syndrome (SIS) is common among overhead athletes. Static stretching (SS) and dynamic warm-up (DW) are widely used, but their acute effects on comprehensive shoulder function in athletes with SIS are not fully understood. This study compared the acute effects of SS, DW, and a combined protocol (SS + DW) on range of motion (ROM), stability, proprioception, and strength in male athletes with SIS and healthy controls. METHODS: In this randomized controlled crossover trial, 25 male athletes with SIS and 25 healthy controls performed SS, DW, and SS + DW protocols in

Differences in circulatory dynamics and skeletal muscle blood flow during exercise between post-dialysis and non-dialysis days in hemodialysis patients.

PURPOSE: Patients undergoing hemodialysis often experience impaired exercise tolerance and circulatory instability due to fluid removal and metabolic alterations during dialysis. Although rehabilitation is recommended for this population, the physiological effects of exercise performed after dialysis remain unclear. This study aimed to compare circulatory dynamics and skeletal muscle oxygenation during exercise performed post-dialysis and on non-dialysis days in maintenance hemodialysis patients, to characterize physiological differences that may inform rehabilitation timing. METHODS: Twelve

Effects of Forearm Resistance Exercises on Breast Cancer-Related Lymphedema Using Segmental Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis: A Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial.

Background: Breast cancer-related lymphedema (BCRL) reduces the quality of life of patients and limits their activities of daily living. Even though resistance exercises seemed to be safe in BCRL patients, it was still controversial that resistance exercises improve lymphedema. Therefore, we sought to evaluate the effects of forearm-targeted resistance exercises on BCRL using segmental bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA). Methods: This study was a pilot-controlled randomized trial, with patients divided into the intervention and the control group. Both groups received 30 min of complete dec

Injuries in Competitive Figure Skaters.

In brief This study determined the nature and incidence of skating injuries in 19 high-level competitors ranging from 11 to 19 years old. The subjects completed a one-page questionnaire on their skating history, warm-up routine, medical problems, and skating injuries, and they were examined for anatomical malalignment, strength, flexibility, and evidence of injury. Most injuries were from overuse, but there were few serious injuries for the large number of hours they spent training, and the incidence of injury compares favorably with other sports. The authors say the low incidence may be relat
