BACKGROUND: Genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM) is prevalent among breast cancer survivors (BCS), often exacerbated by oncologic treatments and compounded by contraindications to hormone-based therapies. Vaginal Erbium:YAG laser has emerged as a promising non-hormonal alternative, though long-term safety and efficacy data remain scarce.
METHODS: This prospective pilot study initially enrolled twelve breast cancer survivors (BCS) presenting with moderate to severe genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM). The study consisted of two phases: in phase 1, patients underwent 3 monthly sessio

The lipocalin beta-lactoglobulin (BLG) is a major protein compound in cow's milk, and we detected it in cattle stable dust. BLG may be a novel player in the farm protective effect against atopic sensitization and hayfever. In previous studies, we demonstrated that only the ligand-filled holo-form of BLG prevented sensitization to itself. Here, we investigated whether holo-BLG could, in an innate manner, also protect against allergic sensitization to unrelated birch pollen allergens using a murine model. BALB/c mice were nasally pretreated four times in biweekly intervals with holo-BLG containi

Universally, the general population is exposed to a variety of "toxic" substances. Some of these are from manufactured goods and some from air and water pollution. Toxins are also normally found in many foods; however, unless the exposure is overwhelming, we are many times (even unknowingly) protected by the foods we eat. A judicious choice of food will counteract noxious agents. Therefore, the diet can be a major factor in determining who does and who does not show toxic symptoms following exposure. This review will cover three aspects. The first will be on protectors against metal toxicity.

Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) remains a challenging disease due to its aggressive nature and resistance to conventional treatments. This study presents an innovative injectable hydrogel (Ir-SAL@SA-CS) combining an iridium(III) complex with the natural flavonoid Salvigenin in a sodium alginate-chitosan matrix, designed to enhance therapeutic outcomes and reduce toxicity. In vitro experiments on TE6 and KYSE150 esophageal cancer cell lines demonstrated that this dual-drug hydrogel significantly reduced cell viability, with IC₅₀ values of approximately 31 µg/mL and 16 µg/mL, respectiv

Pulpotomy is the most performed and controversial therapeutic in pediatric dentistry. Formocresol is known to have a toxic effect on living tissues, a mutagenic and carcinogenic potential with a systemic uptake of formocresol via pulpotomized teeth, other alternative products have been investigated. 40 molars were pulpotomized using Micro Mega Mineral Trioxide Aggregate (MM-MTA), which eliminates the need for the use of formocresol. The effects of this material were evaluated both clinically and radiographically. Post-operative control examinations were performed at 1, 6, 12, and 18 months try

Two cases are reported in which incomplete placement of 4 mm mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) plug was performed unintentionally at the apical third of permanent immature teeth with open apex and apical periodontitis. As confirmed radiographically, there were gaps between MTA and dentinal walls along the MTA-dentin interface. After setting of MTA was confirmed, endodontic treatment was completed and access was sealed with composite resin. At 6 to 16 months follow-up examinations, formation of dentin in contact with the MTA surface, as well as apical closure and periapical healing were ideied r
