Monosodium urate crystal deposition associated with the progress of radiographic grade at the sacroiliac joint in axial SpA: a dual-energy CT study.

BACKGROUND: Previous studies have revealed that ankylosing spondylitis (AS), as the progenitor of axial spondyloarthritis (AxSpA), has been characterized by the insidiously progressive nature of sacroiliitis and spondylitis. Dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) has recently been used to analyse the deposition of monosodium urate (MSU) crystals with higher sensitivity and specificity. However, it remains unclear whether the existence of the MSU crystal deposition detected by DECT at the sacroiliac joint in patients with AxSpA also is associated with the existing structural damage. Here, we pe

Less invasive lumbopelvic stabilization of posterior pelvic ring instability: technique and preliminary results.

BACKGROUND: Lumbopelvic distraction stabilization with (triangular osteosynthesis) or without additional iliosacral screw allows anatomic reduction of the posterior pelvic ring after severely displaced sacral fractures, correction or resection osteotomies of malunions, respectively, septic sacroiliitis and permits early weight bearing. However, this technique is complicated by wound necrosis or infection in up to 20% to 30%. We describe our experience with a less invasive technique. METHODS: The presented technique was performed in a consecutive series (December 2006 to October 2009) of 10 pa

Advancing Rheumatology Care Through Machine Learning.

Rheumatologic diseases are marked by their complexity, involving immune-, metabolic- and mechanically mediated processes which can affect different organ systems. Despite a growing arsenal of targeted medications, many rheumatology patients fail to achieve full remission. Assessing disease activity remains challenging, as patients prioritize different symptoms and disease phenotypes vary. This is also reflected in clinical trials where the efficacy of drugs is not necessarily measured in an optimal way with the traditional outcome assessment. The recent COVID-19 pandemic has catalyzed a digita
