Politics of disease control in Africa and the critical role of global health diplomacy: A systematic review.

Background: Africa is facing the triple burden of communicable diseases, non-communicable diseases (NCDs), and nutritional disorders. Multilateral institutions, bilateral arrangements, and philanthropies have historically privileged economic development over health concerns. That focus has resulted in weak health systems and inadequate preparedness when there are outbreaks of diseases. This review aims to understand the politics of disease control in Africa and global health diplomacy's (GHD's) critical role. Methods: A literature review was done in Medline/PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, Emba

Systematic review of the efficacy and effectiveness of complementary feeding interventions in developing countries.

UNLABELLED: [Table: see text] INTRODUCTION: Complementary feeding interventions are usually targeted at the age range of 6–24 months, which is the time of peak incidence of growth faltering, micronutrient deficiencies and infectious illnesses in developing countries. After 2 years of age, it is much more difficult to reverse the effects of malnutrition on stunting, and some of the functional deficits may be permanent. Therefore, interventions that are effective at reducing malnutrition during this vulnerable period should be a high priority. Although several types of interventions can be targ

HIV vulnerability among adolescent girls and young women in sub-Saharan Africa: a systematic review of individual social and structural determinants.

BACKGROUND: Adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) aged 15 to 24 years continue to bear a disproportionate burden of HIV infections in sub-Saharan Africa. Although substantial research has examined behavioral risk factors, evidence on how individual, interpersonal, and structural determinants interact to shape HIV vulnerability remains fragmented. A clearer synthesis of these intersecting determinants is essential for informing integrated HIV prevention strategies and guiding the implementation of emerging biomedical interventions such as long-acting pre-exposure prophylaxis. METHODS: A syst

Neonatal mortality inequalities in Peru, 2007-2021: an ecological joinpoint trends analysis.

BACKGROUND: Neonatal disorders remain a leading cause of loss of healthy life years worldwide, second only to COVID-19 in 2021, although most neonatal deaths are preventable. The neonatal mortality rate (NMR), a key indicator of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, varies widely within and between countries, reflecting social conditions that shape neonatal survival. This study examined the magnitude and temporal trends of ecosocial inequalities in Peru's NMR from 2007 to 2021, their relationship with selected social determinants, and changes in the epidemiological profile of neonatal death

Quality of neonatal health care in comprehensive specialized hospitals, Amhara Region, Ethiopia: a retrospective study with neonatal death audit.

BACKGROUND: Neonatal health is one of the targets for the sustainable development goals (SDGs) that aim to reduce neonatal mortality to at least as low as 12 per 1 000 live births in 2030. However, the world is not on track to achieve this target. The problem has worsened in many low-income countries, including Ethiopia, due to a fragile health system, as well as health crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic, conflict, food insecurity and climate change. According to the Mini Ethiopian Demographic Health Survey, neonatal mortality is unacceptably high in Ethiopia in general, and in Amhara region
