This paper analyses 3,425 cases of epidermic and appendage tumors and tumor-like lesions. There were 2,137 cases (62.4%) of benign tumors and tumor-like lesions and 1,288 (37.6%) of malignant tumors. The incidence of benign tumors and tumor-like lesions in the epidermis (1,742 cases, 81.5%) was higher than that in the appendage (395 cases, 18.5%). The most common malignant tumor was squamous cell carcinoma (958, 74.4%) and the basal cell carcinoma (296, 23.0%) ranked second, while the malignant tumor in the appendage was very rare (34, 2.6%). Acne is a chronic inflammatory skin disease with wide-ranging effects, involving factors such as Propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes) infection and sebum hypersecretion. Acne, once considered as a mere esthetic problem, is now recognized as a disease that can cause major disturbances of the psychological and emotional sphere. Currently, the treatment of acne is focused on one or more pathogenic factors: hormonal stimulation and sebaceous hypersecretion, disorder of keratinization, colonization of Propionibacterium acnes and inflammation. The aim of the paper was to evaluate the use of inositol in patients with moderate acne.

The human skin microbiome has important roles in skin health and disease. However, bacterial population structure and diversity at the strain level is poorly understood. Granulomatous sebaceous adenitis (GSA) is uncommon in dogs; however, certain breed predilections exist. In this report, three cases of GSA in unrelated vizslas have been described. All cases initially presented with episodes of otitis externa followed by severe inner pinnal lesions. In one case, multifocal coalescing inner pinnal ulceration appeared 4 wk prior to the occurrence of the skin lesions. The appearance of C.T. of the head in 11 cases of the linear sebaceous naevus syndrome are presented. From these it is argued that the pathology represents a disorder of neuronal migration and organisation rather than differentiation. Since three of the cases had evidence of CNS tumour in addition to two in the literature, it would appear that a further aspect of this disorder is a failure of growth constraint. This is paralleled by a similar tendency in the skin lesion which should be considered premalignant. Normal intelligence is rare in this condition and co-exists only with a normal C.T.

The sebum-excretion rate (S.E.R.) has been found to be increased in patients with benign as well as malignant breast disease. The S.E.R. was not increased in patients undergoing surgery for other diseases. It is considered that the sebotrophic hormone may also be mammotrophic. Drugs such as reserpine and the phenothiazines which increase sebum production may perhaps provoke benign as well as malignant breast disease.

BACKGROUND: Seborrheic dermatitis is a common inflammatory skin disorder that usually occurs in patients with pre-existing seborrhea. The etiology of seborrheic dermatitis is uncertain. Typically, sites dense with sebaceous glands support growth of the lipophilic yeast Malassezia furfur. Ciclopirox (Loprox) gel is a hydroxypyridone, broad-spectrum antifungal agent proven effective against the yeast M. furfur.
