Life satisfaction in Norwegian medical doctors: a 15-year longitudinal study of work-related predictors.

BACKGROUND: Despite many recent studies on burn-out and dissatisfaction among American medical doctors, less is known about doctors in the Scandinavian public health service. The aims of this study were to analyse long-term work-related predictors of life satisfaction among established doctors in Norway and to identify predictors in a subgroup of doctors who reported a decline in life satisfaction. METHODS: Two nationwide cohorts of doctors (n = 1052), who graduated medical school 6 years apart, were surveyed at graduation from medical school (T1, 1993/94 and 1999), and 4 (T2), 10 (T3), and 1

Accounting for sex differences in PTSD: A multi-variable mediation model.

BACKGROUND: Approximately twice as many females as males are diagnosed with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). However, little is known about why females report more PTSD symptoms than males. Prior studies have generally focused on few potential mediators at a time and have often used methods that were not ideally suited to test for mediation effects. Prior research has identified a number of individual risk factors that may contribute to sex differences in PTSD severity, although these cannot fully account for the increased symptom levels in females when examined individually. OBJECTIVE:

Relations of trait depression and anxiety to low lipid and lipoprotein concentrations in healthy young adult women.

OBJECTIVE: Recent evidence suggests that naturally occurring low cholesterol concentrations (<4.14 mmol/liter) are associated with depression as well as poor psychological health. For the most part, these associations have been observed in men. The current study assessed the relation of naturally occurring low lipid and lipoprotein concentrations to trait measures of depression and anxiety in 121 healthy young adult women. METHODS: Fasting lipid samples were collected at the same time as health history. Trait depression and anxiety were assessed using the Neuroticism, Extraversion, Openness-P

Not all workplace bullying perpetrators are alike: health, personality, and occupational profiles of perpetrator-only and target-perpetrator employees.

BACKGROUND: Research on workplace bullying (WB) has primarily focused on targets, whereas those who engage in bullying have often been treated as a homogeneous group. It remains unclear whether employees who only enact bullying (perpetrator-only) and those who both enact and experience bullying (target-perpetrator) represent distinct forms of perpetration-related involvement. OBJECTIVE: The present study examined whether perpetrator-only and target-perpetrator groups could be differentiated based on their health-related, personality, and occupational profiles. METHODS: Cross-sectional Wave 1

Temperament, personality, and psychopathology in youth: A preregistered multilevel meta-analytic review and preregistered large-scale replication and extension.

The current pair of highly powered, preregistered studies estimates the associations between personality/temperament and youth psychopathology and evaluates the generalizability of these associations across diverse populations and research designs. In Study 1, a multilevel meta-analysis of 147 studies (k effects = 829, N = 46,369) quantified the cross-sectional associations among subjects aged 1.5-18, between five-factor model personality traits and internalizing/externalizing psychopathology dimensions within the Achenbach System of Empirically Based Assessments (Achenbach & Rescorla, 2001).

Lower metacognitive abilities predict procrastination: a cross-sectional study of a healthy adult sample.

BACKGROUND: Procrastination, the tendency to delay tasks despite negative consequences, is a widespread issue linked to poor mental health and reduced daily functioning. While often attributed to self-regulation failures, the specific cognitive mechanisms underlying procrastination remain unclear. This study investigates the role of executive functions (EF), measured through both self-report and performance-based tests, in predicting procrastination in adults. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 108 adults (22–65 years) using the Irrational Procrastination Scale (IPS) to measur

The Hidden Costs of ICU Caregiving: Economic, Mental Health and Spiritual Consequences.

Background: Family caregivers of intensive care unit (ICU) patients face a double burden: the psychological toll of critical illness and the economic and occupational disruptions that often accompany prolonged caregiving. While prior research has examined caregiver distress, few studies have systematically integrated economic, psychological and spiritual domains over long-term follow-up. Methods: This study presents a cross-sectional analysis conducted at long-term follow-up examining economic, occupational, psychological, and spiritual correlates among family caregivers of former ICU patients
