Role of Vessel Wall Magnetic Resonance Imaging in the Diagnosis of Intracranial Vasculopathies.

BACKGROUND: Stroke is a leading cause of death and disability worldwide, affecting millions annually. Accurate etiological diagnosis is critical for the effective treatment and prevention of recurrent strokes. Traditional luminal imaging techniques like computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) provide limited information, focusing solely on vessel lumen characteristics. Vessel wall magnetic resonance imaging (VW-MRI) has emerged as a valuable non-invasive technique for evaluating intracranial vasculopathies with high spatial resolution. It also helps in identifying pla

Short-term treatment with risperidone ameliorated 1,2-diacetylbenzene-induced liver dysfunction.

1,2-Diacetylbenze (C10H10O2, DAB) is a potential inducer or activator of toxic mechanisms. DAB exerts high absorption by the gastrointestinal tract and high blood-brain barrier penetration. However, only the effects of DAB on the central nervous system were reported, with a dearth of evidence of DAB's effects on the liver, which is more susceptible to toxic substances. Risperidone, an atypical antipsychotic drug, has been shown to protect against DAB-induced cognitive impairment in an animal model. Risperidone was found to have little or no effect on the liver after short-term administration.

Beyond the Alveolar Epithelium: Plasma Soluble Receptor for Advanced Glycation End Products Is Associated With Oxygenation Impairment, Mortality, and Extrapulmonary Organ Failure in Children With Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome.

OBJECTIVES: Soluble receptor for advanced glycation end products is a known plasma marker of alveolar epithelial injury. However, RAGE is also expressed on cell types beyond the lung, and its activation leads to up-regulation of pro-inflammatory mediators. We sought to examine the relationship between plasma soluble receptor for advanced glycation end products and primary pulmonary dysfunction, extrapulmonary organ dysfunction, and mortality in pediatric acute respiratory distress syndrome patients at two early time points following acute respiratory distress syndrome diagnosis and compare the

[Expert recommendations for the diagnosis and treatment of interstitial lung disease caused by novel coronavirus pneumonia].

COVID-19 is an acute infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus (SARS-CoV2). COVID-19 may manifest bilateral interstitial pneumonia on imaging. About 30%-60% of patients present varying degrees of interstitial changes, while most patients have a good prognosis. Since there's little practical instruct on treating interstitial lung disease (ILD) caused by COVID-19, we present this file as references for all the colleagues fighting with this disease. The primary findings on CT are bilateral, peripheral ground-glass opacities (GGO) and consolidation. Inter-/intra-lobular septal th

[Rapid establishment of traditional Chinese medicine prevention and treatment of 2019-nCoV based on clinical experience and molecular docking].

The coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19) is raging in China and more than 20 other countries and regions since the middle of December 2019. Currently, there is no specific drug or vaccine besides symptomatic supportive therapy. Taking full advantage of the clinical experience of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) in preventing and controlling major epidemics such as SARS, it is an important mission for TCM to propose effective formula with immediate response and solid evidence by using modern biomedical knowledge and techniques(molecular docking assisted TCM formulation for short). In view of the

Comparison of the pregnancy results between adolescent Syrian refugees and local adolescent Turkish citizens who gave birth in our clinic.

Adolescence is the transition period from childhood to adulthood; the World Health Organization has defined it as the ages between 10 and 19. Approximately 11% of all births in the world are by adolescent mothers. Pregnant adolescent refugees who have been forced to emigrate due to civil wars raging on in their native countries often face difficult social life conditions, have little or no access to hospitals, and experience language barriers and poor nutritional status have been found to experience poor maternal and obstetric outcomes. These include an increase in cesarean births, premature b

Disease and destiny-mystery and mastery.

When early people made their appearance, zoonotic infectious diseases were already waiting, but epidemic diseases did not appear in human history until people began to live in large numbers under conditions of close contact, mainly during the last 10,000 years. Disease has decimated urban populations, conquered armies, and disrupted society. The focus here is on (1) the plague of Athens and the Black Death; (2) smallpox, influenza, and rabies; (3) avian influenza prion diseases, and foot & mouth disease; and (4) emerging and re-emerging diseases. All have veterinary public health associations.

Ethics, transplantation, and the changing role of anatomists.

Anatomists are regarded as custodians of cadaveric material donated to science. Almost every facet of medical science has experienced explosive advances. This has impacted directly on anatomists and their role. Increasingly, anatomists are raising concerns with regard to the treatment of human tissue (Jones,2002, Clin. Anat. 15:436-440). The Korperwelten (Bodyworlds) of Gunther von Hagens et al. (1987, Anat. Embryol. 175:411-421) has evoked considerable debate about the treatment of human cadavers. Thus far clinical anatomists have had little role to play in policy formulation, legislation, an

[Indications for refractive procedures in adult patients with strabismus and results of the subsequent therapeutic procedures].

The authors estimated the contribution of the refraction intervention and a possible evolution in the position of eyes in 102 adult individuals considering a refraction intervention. The indications for this intervention were a disorder in eye position or amblyopia in those who were interested in this operation and were examined in the years 1996 to 2002. The basic refraction examination was always supplemented by a detailed orthoptic analysis. Based on this examination the intervention was not recommended in 14 examined subjects (14%). ARK represented the contraindication of the refraction in
