Dermatologic surgery : official publication for American Society for Dermatologic Surgery [et al.]2003eng
OBJECTIVE: Pyoderma Gangrenosum (PG) is an immune-mediated neutrophilic dermatosis, characterized by large painful ulcers occurring in various body segments. It can be associated to Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) including both Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn Disease. Prompt and effective management is fundamental, due to its high morbidity and mortality rates. By presenting our clinical experience, we aimed at showing the efficacy of a combined therapeutic approach, in which the best of every specialty cooperates managing this hazardous disease.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: We report on two patients

BACKGROUND: Porocarcinoma is a malignant tumour of the eccrine sweat duct, arising from acrosyringium. The tumoral lesions involve the deep dermal tissue.
CASE REPORT: We report the case of an 84 year-old woman, suffering from a porocarcinoma, extensively involving the major part of the left lower limb. The first symptoms appeared two years ago. Hundreds of metastatic papules and small nodules were present, isolated or confluent into large plaques. The clinical picture was very close to lymphangioma. Diagnosis was confirmed by histopathologic examination. Radiotherapy was useful short-term, a

BACKGROUND: There are no immunohistochemical studies on cytokeratin (CK) expression in large series of cases of apocrine poroma. In addition, detailed immunohistochemical analysis of cuticular cells, a specific type of constituent cells of poromas, has not been reported.
METHODS: Using the avidin-biotin method, we compared immunostaining patterns of eleven different anti-CK antibodies in 12 cases of apocrine and 21 cases of eccrine poromas, and normal adult skin.
RESULTS: Poroid cells were exclusively positive for CK1/5/10/14, CK5/8 and CK14, which were expressed in the outer cells of normal

Digital papillary adenocarcinoma is a malignant adnexal tumor with a predilection for acral sites. Hidradenoma is a benign solid and cystic sweat gland neoplasm with focal ductal and glandular differentiation and good outcomes. Hidradenomas can occur at acral sites and show papillary structures; for this reason, they are included in the differential diagnosis of digital papillary adenocarcinoma, and immunohistochemistry is a valuable tool in this scenario. We described a case of a 43-year-old man with an epithelial tumor showing papillary structures in the intermediate phalanx of the fourth fi

Spiradenoma and cylindroma are related sweat gland tumors. To delineate their histogenesis, gene profiles, and their potential drivers, we performed a whole-transcriptome sequencing analysis of fourteen samples of spiradenoma/cylindroma in comparison to normal samples. A total of 12 spiradenomas, 5 cylindromas, 3 hybrid spiradenomas/cylindromas and 2 adnexal carcinomas were included in this study. 1335 characteristic genes and transcripts expressed over all 14 spiradenoma/cylindroma tumors were identified, and two groups of expression profiles were observed. Highest upregulated top 7 gene sign

OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the imaging features of clear cell hidradenoma on ultrasonography (US), computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
METHODS: The radiologic and pathologic databases at 2 medical institutions were searched retrospectively from 2004 to 2016 to identify patients with a diagnosis of clear cell hidradenoma. Ultrasonographic, CT, and MRI features were described, and pathologic specimens were reviewed.
RESULTS: There were 5 female and 4 male patients. The mean patient age was 48.9 years (range, 28-70 years). Five patients und

Exceedingly rare cases of neoplasms with clear-cut histopathologic features of benignity can show locoregional or even distant spread. Such cases can become putative examples of "benign metastasis" when a completely favorable clinical outcome is documented after an adequately long follow-up. We report 8 cases of morphologically benign clear cell nodular hidradenoma (CCNH) with lymphatic involvement. In 5 cases the cutaneous tumor showed small foci of intravascular deposits of neoplastic cells; in 2 cases the cutaneous tumor presented with a synchronous tumor in a regional node; in 1 case a nod

Eccrine poroma is a benign, slow growing, solitary adnexal tumor. Malignant degeneration may take place in longstanding solitary lesions; in such cases cutaneous and fatal visceral metastases have occurred. Our goal was to determine whether flow cytometry yields useful diagnostic and prognostic information on benign and malignant eccrine poroma. Flow cytometric analysis of the nuclear DNA ploidy pattern was performed on four samples of eccrine poroma and five samples of malignant eccrine poroma. All the histograms of the eccrine poromas were diploid. Two of five specimens (40%) of the eccrine

Eccrine porocarcinoma is an uncommon sweat gland malignancy. To the best of our knowledge, there has been no report in the English literature of porocarcinoma with predominantly undifferentiated sarcomatous change. We present two cases of sarcomatoid eccrine porocarcinoma associated with a benign poroma. Case 1 pertained to an 82-year-old woman with an ulcerated chest wall tumor, and Case 2 was that of a 74-year-old woman who presented with an ulcerated plaque in the lower leg. Case 1 showed an unusual pseudo-angiosarcomatous morphology with spindle cells dissecting through collagen bundles an

OBJECTIVE AND IMPORTANCE: A rare case of metastasizing malignant eccrine poroma (porocarcinoma) is described. This case is unique because metastasis resulted in hydrocephalus in the cerebrospinal fluid and spinal cord compression in the lumbar spine.
CLINICAL PRESENTATION: A 57-year-old man presented with acute confusion, lower limb weakness, and urinary concerns. Investigation revealed acute hydrocephalus and extradural cord compression of the lumbar spine.
INTERVENTION: The acute hydrocephalous was treated with a ventriculoperitoneal shunt. The spinal cord and conus were decompressed by la

Formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded tissue specimens of six cases of extraocular sebaceous carcinoma were studied immunohistochemically with eight anti-keratin monoclonal antibodies, 34 beta B4, 35 beta H11, Ks13.1, Ks19.1, PKK1, LP34, KL1 and AE1. The staining patterns of sebaceous carcinoma were compared with those of normal sebaceous glands and other skin cancers which should be distinguished from sebaceous carcinoma histopathologically. The other skin cancers compared were eccrine porocarcinoma, malignant clear cell hidradenoma, extramammary Paget's disease with underlying adenocarcinoma,

Hidradenoma is a benign cutaneous adnexal neoplasm that occurs across a wide age range and at a variety of anatomic sites. Its most characteristic morphologic feature is the presence of diverse cell types including squamoid, clear, plasmacytoid, and mucinous cells. Hidradenoma is morphologically and molecularly similar to mucoepidermoid carcinoma, and both tumors are characterized by recurrent CRTC1-MAML2 cytogenetic translocations. Previous studies have suggested that approximately half of hidradenomas possess this translocation. This finding raised the question of whether translocation-negat

Breast spiradenoma is extremely rare, with only 4 cases reported previously. We describe an instructive case of breast spiradenoma resembling adenoid cystic carcinoma (AdCC). A 71-year-old woman underwent excisional biopsy of a breast mass after a conclusive diagnosis was unable to be obtained from core needle biopsy showing an AdCC-like pattern. Histopathologically, the lesion demonstrated solid and cribriform foci comprising basaloid cells, luminal cells, and eosinophilic hyaline material, reminiscent of solid-basaloid AdCC, alongside convoluted lumens, stromal edema, lymphocytic infiltratio

Eccrine syringofibroadenoma (ESFA) is a rare, benign adnexal tumor arising most often on the extremities of elderly individuals. It is typically a slow-growing, flesh- to reddish-colored nodule or plaque. Histologically, the tumor consists of anastomosing cords of cuboidal epithelial cells surrounded by a fibrovascular stroma containing plasma cells. The cords contain scattered ductal structures lined with cuboidal cells resembling eccrine ducts. The co-existence of ESFA with squamous cell carcinoma has been described, eliciting the term eccrine syringofibroadenoma. The differential diagnosis

DICER1 tumor predisposition syndrome is a rare genetic disorder that predisposes individuals to multiple benign and malignant neoplasms. The phenotype is vast and includes pleuropulmonary blastoma (PPB), thyroid nodules, cystic nephroma, Wilms tumor, ovarian Sertoli-Leydig cell tumor, and medulloepithelioma, among others. Herein, we describe a patient with a DICER1 germline pathogenic variant presenting with two neoplasms that are not commonly encountered in the context of DICER1 syndrome. The first tumor is a multiloculated cystic hepatic lesion with a biphasic pattern, composed of cysts line

BACKGROUND: Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) protein overexpression and gene amplification are important prognostic factors in various tumors and EGFR inhibitors are now available as promising chemotherapeutic agents. There is little information in the literature regarding the EGFR protein and gene status in hidradenocarcinomas which has an aggressive biologic course characterized by repeated local recurrences and systemic metastasis. We have previously reported EGFR protein overexpression in malignant, atypical, and benign hidradenomas and would like to further evaluate their gene stat

Eccrine porocarcinoma may arise from eccrine poroma or it may occur de novo. We present a rapidly growing occipital malignant eccrine poroma on the scalp following to a radiotherapy for cervical carcinoma. A wide excision with skin grafting resulted no recurrence during a 1-year followup. Although malignant transformation is well known for other skin cancers this was not reported for eccrine poroma.

To analyse the clinicopathological features, diagnostic pitfalls, and unusual presentations of eyelid eccrine tumors. Methods: Retrospective case series of 25 histopathologically confirmed eyelid eccrine tumors surgically excised between 2016 and 2023. Clinical records, histopathology (H&E with selective PAS staining), and follow-up data were reviewed. Results: Eccrine hidrocystoma was the most common subtype (80%, n=20), followed by eccrine hidradenoma (16%, n=4) and eccrine spiradenoma (4%, n=1). Mean patient age was 43.8 years, with a 4:1 male predominance. Clinical misdiagnosis occurred in

Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common skin cancer, and it has numerous histologic mimics with variable prognoses and treatments. Although some immunohistochemical stains can be used for the differential diagnosis of BCC, variability and overlap in results can complicate their interpretation. Immunohistochemical staining for glioma-associated oncogene-1 (Gli-1) was performed on 26 nodular BCCs, 22 infiltrative BCCs, 9 basaloid squamous cell carcinomas, 12 desmoplastic trichoepitheliomas, 19 Merkel cell carcinomas, 11 sebaceous carcinomas, 10 cylindromas, 14 spiradenomas, 12 adenoid cyst
