Coinage Metal-Catalyzed Asymmetric Reactions of ortho-Alkynylaryl and Heteroaryl Aldehydes and Ketones.

Coinage metals have become the metal of choice due to their excellent catalytic activity in organic transformation processes. Combining various chiral ligands and coinage metals became a productive area of research and access to heterocyclic derivatives according to an efficient and sustainable manner. This review was devoted to the various recently developed coinage metal-catalyzed domino processes of ortho-alkynylaryl and heteroaryl aldehydes and ketones leading to functionalized heterocycles. Various gold chiral complexes were presented, and methods of preparations of chromenes along with i

n-Butyllithium as a highly efficient precatalyst for cyanosilylation of aldehydes and ketones.

A highly efficient cyanosilylation protocol mediated by the easily available n-BuLi with a wide range of aldehydes and ketones was developed. This protocol features excellent yields with very low n-BuLi loadings (0.01-0.05 mol%) at room temperature, solvent-free process, good chemo-/regio-selectivity and functional group tolerance and scalability. A possible reaction pathway based upon stoichiometric reactivity was put forward.

Ruthenium(ii)-catalyzed regioselective 1,6-conjugate addition of umpolung aldehydes as carbanion equivalents.

One of the most efficient and reliable approaches to construct C-C bonds involves the conjugate addition of carbon nucleophiles to electron-deficient ketones. Yet, 1,6-conjugate additions of extended conjugated systems largely remain underexplored due to difficulties in controlling the regioselectivity. Herein, we report umpolung aldehydes as carbanion equivalents for highly regioselective 1,6-conjugate addition reactions to unsaturated ketones, with preliminary studies of the enantioselective variant. The synergy of ruthenium(ii) catalyst and electron-rich, bidentate phosphine ligand is essen

Concise Synthesis of Potassium Acyltrifluoroborates from Aldehydes through Copper(I)-Catalyzed Borylation/Oxidation.

Potassium acyltrifluoroborates (KATs) were prepared through copper(I)-catalyzed borylation of aldehydes and subsequent oxidation. This synthetic route is characterized by the wide range of aldehydes accessible, favorable step economy, mild reaction conditions, and tolerance of various functional groups, and it enables the facile generation of a range of KATs, for example, bearing halide, sulfide, acetal, or ester moieties. Moreover, this method was applied to the three-step synthesis of various α-amino acid analogues that bear a KAT moiety on the C-terminus by using naturally occurring amino a

Changes in secondary structure of α-synuclein during oligomerization induced by reactive aldehydes.

The oxidative stress-related reactive aldehydes 4-hydroxy-2-nonenal (HNE) and 4-oxo-2-nonenal (ONE) have been shown to promote formation of α-synuclein oligomers in vitro. However, the changes in secondary structure of α-synuclein and the kinetics of the oligomerization process are not known and were the focus of this study. Size exclusion chromatography showed that after 1 h of incubation, HNE induced the formation of an oligomeric α-synuclein peak with a molecular weight of about ∼2000 kDa, which coincided with a decreasing ∼50 kDa monomeric peak. With prolonged incubation (up to 24 h) the o

[The role of aldehydes in development of oxidative stress under rhabdomyolysis in rats].

We investigated the changes in the forms of plasma iron and participation of aldehydes in the development of oxidative stress under glycerol-induced rhabdomyolysis in rats. Rhabdomyolysis was caused by intramuscular injection of 50% glycerol in the dose 10 ml/kg. We detected an increase in indexes of oxidative stress. On the day 4, the content of TBA-reactive products in the liver increased by 38%, CO-group proteins in serum in 3,5 times and in the liver in 2,8 times. The content of aldehydes in the liver was increased in 2,9 times. Accumulation of not shielded redox-active iron in the blood p

Iron(III) and aluminium(III) complexes with substituted salicyl-aldehydes and salicylic acids.

The chelating properties toward iron(III) and aluminium(III) of variously substituted salicyl-aldehydes and salicylic acids have been evaluated, together with the effect of methoxy and nitro substituents in ortho and para position with respect to the phenolic group. The protonation and iron and aluminium complex formation equilibria have been studied by potentiometry, UV-visible spectrophotometry and (1)H NMR spectroscopy. The overall results highlight that salicyl-aldehydes present good chelating properties toward iron(III), with pFe ranging from 14.2 with nitro to 15.7 with methoxy substitue

Development of QSARs for predicting the joint effects between cyanogenic toxicants and aldehydes.

Quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) approaches are proposed in this study to predict the joint effects of mixture toxicity. The initial investigation studies the joint effects between cyanogenic toxicants and aldehydes to Photobacterium phosphoreum. Joint effects are found to result from the formation of a carbanion intermediate produced through the chemical interactions between cyanogenic toxicants and aldehydes. Further research indicates that the formation of carbanion intermediate is highly correlated with not only the charge of the carbon atom in the -CHO of aldehydes but

Evidence for aldehydes bound to liver microsomal protein following CCl4 or BrCCl3 poisoning.

Since it has been demonstrated in previous studies that peroxidation of liver microsomal lipids leads to the production of aldehydes provided with cytopathological activities--namely 4-hydroxyalkenals--evidence was searched for aldehydes bound to microsomal protein in in vivo conditions (CCl4 and BrCCl3 intoxications) in which peroxidation of lipids of hepatic endoplasmic reticulum had been demonstrated previously. The spectrophotometric analysis of 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine-treated non-lipoidal residues of liver microsomes from the intoxicated rats shows absorption spectra similar to those o

Specific and Selective Adsorption of Aldehydes by Layered Double Hydroxides-Modified Cellulose Acetate.

Volatile aldehydes, especially from cigarette, pose potential threats to human health. However, the current strategies failed to selectively adsorb aldehyde hazards, indiscriminately removing all the substances to reduce smoking satisfaction. In this work, we have uniformly localized layered double hydroxides (LDH) onto the cellulose acetate (CA) fiber to prepare LDH@CA composites based on the hydrogen bonds between the ester carbonyl groups of CA and the hydroxyl groups of LDH. The acquired hierarchical structure exhibited abundant hydroxyl groups, forming hydrogen bonds with aldehydes for a

The role of aldehydes on sulfur based-new particle formation: a theoretical study.

Aldehydes play a crucial role in the formation of atmospheric particles, attracting significant attention due to their environmental impact. However, the microscopic mechanisms underlying the formation of aldehyde-involved particles remain uncertain. In this study, through quantum chemical calculations and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations, we investigate the microscopic formation mechanisms of binary and ternary systems composed of three representative aldehydes, two sulfur-based acids, water, and two bases. Our research findings reveal that the most stable structures of acid-aldehyde clust

Cyanohydrin Equilibria Implicate Non-Aromatic Aldehydes in Photochemical Production of Oceanic Carbon Monoxide.

Carbonyls have previously been dismissed as significant precursors for carbon monoxide (CO) photoproduction from natural chromophoric dissolved organic matter (CDOM). Here, we used hydrogen cyanide (HCN), which reacts with carbonyls to form photochemically inert cyanohydrins, as a probe to re-examine the role of carbonyls in CO photoproduction. Adding HCN to low-absorbance euphotic zone seawater decreased CO photoproduction. Modeling [HCN] (∼5 to 364 μM) vs the percent decrease in CO photoproduction (%CO↓) yielded carbonyl-cyanohydrin dissociation equilibrium constants, KD, and maximum %CO↓, %

The effects of diatom polyunsaturated aldehydes on embryonic and larval zebrafish (Danio rerio).

Marine diatoms are pervasive in many planktonic and benthic environments and represent an important food source for a wide range of species. Some diatoms produce polyunsaturated aldehydes (PUAs) as defensive toxins. PUA exposure is known to reduce the fecundity of invertebrate grazers like copepods and echinoderm larvae, but little is known about the effects of PUAs on vertebrates. Many fish species are likely to come into close contact with diatoms. Many may deposit eggs on diatom-coated substrates, consume diatoms as larvae, and/or feed heavily on zooplankters that may be gut-loaded with dia

Amino Chemoassay Profiling of Aromatic Aldehydes-Unraveling Drivers of Their Skin Sensitization Potency.

Aromatic aldehydes are ubiquitous in humans' everyday life. As aldehydes, they can form imines (Schiff bases) with amino groups of skin proteins, leading to immune response-triggered allergic contact dermatitis. Many known aromatic aldehydes are considered as weak or nonsensitizers, but others like atranol and chloratranol, two components of the fragrance oak moss absolute, show strong sensitization potency. This large discrepancy in potency and, in particular, the underlying reaction mechanisms are only little understood so far. To reduce this knowledge gap, our chemoassay employing glycine-p

Borane-Catalyzed C3-Alkylation of Pyridines with Imines, Aldehydes, or Ketones as Electrophiles.

Achieving C3-selective pyridine functionalization is a longstanding challenge in organic chemistry. The existing methods, including electrophilic aromatic substitution and C-H activation, often require harsh reaction conditions and excess pyridine and generate multiple regioisomers. Herein, we report a method for borane-catalyzed tandem reactions that result in exclusively C3-selective alkylation of pyridines. These tandem reactions consist of pyridine hydroboration, nucleophilic addition of the resulting dihydropyridine to an imine, an aldehyde, or a ketone, and subsequent oxidative aromatiza

Trace Aldehydes in Solid Oral Dosage Forms as Catalysts for Nitrosating Secondary Amines.

Nitrosamine impurities may form during drug substance manufacturing processes. Here, we focus on nitrosamine impurity level growth in oral drug products during long term stability studies. Nitrosamine growth mechanisms in oral dosage forms are typically framed as due to nitrosating agents that can be formed in solutions of nitrous acid with a required pH value of around pH 5 or below. We strive in this work to bring awareness to pharmaceutical scientists that formaldehyde, common in oral dosage form excipients, has previously been shown in solution to catalyze the reaction between secondary am

Palladium/TY-Phos-Catalyzed Asymmetric Intermolecular α-Arylation of Aldehydes with Aryl Bromides.

Despite much progress has been made in the asymmetric α-arylation reactions of cyclic ketones, lactones and lactams, the enantioselective α-arylation of acyclic carbonyl compounds lagged much behind due to the in situ generated Z/E-enolate intermediates leading to opposite enantiomers. Especially, the asymmetric α-arylation of acyclic aldehydes is a long-standing challenge, because of the highest activity among carbonyl compounds leading to various competitive side reactions. Herein we reported an efficient Pd-catalyzed asymmetric intermolecular α-arylation reaction of α-alkyl-α-aryl disubstit

Nickel/Photo-Cocatalyzed Regioselective Ring Opening of N-Tosyl Styrenyl Aziridines with Aldehydes.

Aldehydes and aziridines are both intrinsic electrophilic reagents, and thus the coupling reaction between these two compounds is highly challenging. In this protocol, the merger of nickel and hydrogen-atom-transfer photocatalysis successfully enables the ring opening of N-tosyl styrenyl aziridines with aldehydes, providing a novel and atom-economical access to a variety of β-amino ketones with complete regiocontrol. The preliminary mechanistic studies reveal that the ring opening reaction proceeds with a cooperative catalytic mode: aldehydes are converted into acyl radicals by tetrabutylammon

Transition-metal-free coupling reaction of vinylcyclopropanes with aldehydes catalyzed by tin hydride.

Donor-acceptor cyclopropanes are useful building blocks for catalytic cycloaddition reactions with a range of electrophiles to give various cyclic products. In contrast, relatively few methods are available for the synthesis of homoallylic alcohols through coupling of vinylcyclopropanes (VCPs) with aldehydes, even with transition-metal catalysts. Here, we report that the hydrostannation of vinylcyclopropanes (VCPs) was effectively promoted by dibutyliodotin hydride (Bu2 SnIH). The resultant allylic tin compounds reacted easily with aldehydes. Furthermore, the use of Bu2 SnIH was effectively ca
