Extranasopharyngeal angiofibroma mimicking choanal polyp in patients with chronic paranasal sinusitis.

Extranasopharyngeal angiofibroma (ENA) is an angiofibroma that occurs in the extranasopharynx. It shows pathologic findings, such as juvenile angiofibroma (JNA), which accounts for 0.5% of head and neck mass. However, compared with JNA, the prevalence, affected site, and clinical characteristics are completely different, which leads some physicians to classify ENA as a disease different from JNA. ENA of the nasal turbinate origin are rarely reported in the literature. In addition, choanal polyp originating from the posterior part of the nasal turbinate is uncommonly reported. Recently, we enco

Nasopharyngeal angiofibroma in an adult with Proteus syndrome. First reported case.

BACKGROUND: Proteus Syndrome (PS) is a rare hamartoneoplastic disorder consisting of a disproportionate and asymmetric overgrowth of body parts, leading to severe body and face disfigurement. Individuals with PS frequently need to undergo a number of surgical procedures including Otolaryngology interventions. Their peculiar anatomy turns even the most straightforward intervention to a challenging one. CASE DESCRIPTION: A 31-year-old adult male with PS presented with recurrent epistaxis and nasal obstruction. A nasal mass was found during the physical examination, which was surgically removed

Rare presentation of a testicular angiofibroma treated with testis sparing surgery.

INTRODUCTION: Testicular benign tumors are very rare (< 5%). Testicular Angiofibroma (AF) is one of those, however the gold standard of treatment and follow-up is still unclear. CASE REPORT: A 47 years-old man with only one functioning testis was referred to our clinic for a palpable right testicular mass and atrophic contralateral testis. Patient underwent testis-sparing surgery with inguinal approach and intraoperative frozen sections examination with diagnosis of AF. Final histology confirmed AF. Post-operative follow-up was uneventful. Clinical and ultrasonographic follow-up was negati

Endobronchial angiofibroma in the aberrant tracheal bronchus presenting as spontaneous pneumomediastinum.

BACKGROUND: Spontaneous pneumomediastinum is a self-limiting benign disease but abnormal bronchial lesions can be rarely found incidentally, and in selected cases will require surgical resection. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A 38-year-old man presented with a spontaneous pneumomediastinum. Chest computed tomography revealed an incidental linear endobronchial tumour in the aberrant tracheal bronchus. The tumour was removed surgically and diagnosed with a rare benign tumour of endobronchial angiofibroma. CONCLUSIONS: We report a rare case of endobronchial angiofibroma in the aberrant tracheal bronch

Juvenile Nasopharyngeal Angiofibroma Extending into the Oral Cavity: A Rare Entity.

Juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma (JNA) is a rare vascular tumour which is benign but locally aggressive and occurs invariably in young and adolescent males. It seldom involves the oral cavity but has the tendency to invade the adjacent structures. Its characteristic features include slow progression, aggressive growth & an increased rate of persistence and recurrence due to its location in inaccessible areas. In literature, very few cases of JNA have been reported with extension into the oral cavity. Here, a case of JNA with extension into the oral cavity has been discussed who reported to

Juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma: vascular determinates for operative complications and tumor recurrence.

OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS: Operative complications and tumor recurrence in juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma (JNA) are measurable and meaningful outcomes. This study aimed to assess the association of these two outcomes to various clinical indices and in particular, vascular determinates. STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective cohort study. METHODS: An 18-year retrospective chart review of an academic tertiary center was undertaken. Data from clinical notes, imaging studies, and arteriograms were analyzed. RESULTS: Thirty-seven male (mean age, 14.4 years) patients were included in the study. Tumor stag

Angiofibroma of Knee Masquerading as Ganglion Cyst - A Rare Case Report.

INTRODUCTION: Angiofibroma of soft tissue (AFST) is a rare benign neoplasm characterized by distinctive histopathological and genetic features. It commonly arises in the lower extremities but can present in atypical locations, complicating diagnosis. CASE REPORT: A 77-year-old male with a 10-year history of bilateral knee pain and 6-month history of right knee swelling was examined. Physical assessment revealed bilateral knee varus deformity and a palpable, variable-consistency mass in the anteromedial aspect of the right knee. Radiographs indicated severe osteoarthritis and soft-tissue swell

Giant Facial Angiofibroma as an Unusual Manifestation of Tuberous Sclerosis Complex.

Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is a genetic disease characterized by the growth of tuberous fibromas in various locations of the body, due to a mutation in the protein tuberin or hamartin. This mutation leads to significant neurological and functional impairment, as well as dysregulation in the mTOR pathway. We review the case of a 47-year-old Hispanic man born with TSC, who presented to our service with a large mandibular neoformation. He is non-verbal and presents with dental enamel pits, epilepsy, intellectual disability, and other manifestations of TSC. Resection of the neoformation was

Cellular angiofibroma of the inguinal scrotal region: A rare case report.

RATIONALE: Cellular angiofibroma (CAF) is a rare benign mesenchymal tumor, which is difficult to diagnose due to its lack of specificity in clinical and imaging manifestations. This case highlights the challenges in the preoperative diagnosis of inguinoscrotal CAF and emphasizes the necessity of histopathologic confirmation. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 53-year-old male was found to have a mass in the right inguinal area for 2 years, which had consciously increased for over a month. During the course of the disease, the patient did not experience any significant discomfort. DIAGNOSES: Physical examin

Vaginal Cellular Angiofibroma: Report of a Rare Case with Literature Review.

Cellular angiofibroma (CA) is a relatively recently described, rare, benign soft tissue tumor that predominantly occurs in the vulvoperineal region. It was first described in 1997 as a mesenchymal-origin tumor composed of connective (fibrous) tissue and blood vessels. We report a case of vaginal CA in a 40-year-old woman who presented with pressure symptoms, incidentally diagnosed with a vaginal mass and clinically suspected as vaginal myoma. This case was diagnosed based on histomorphology and immunohistochemistry and underwent surgical treatment. This tumor was a diagnostic dilemma for other

Cellular angiofibroma in the retroperitoneal space during pregnancy: A case report.

BACKGROUND: Cellular angiofibroma (CA) is a rare, benign mesenchymal tumor first described by Nucci et al. (Am J Surg Pathol 21:636-644, 1997. 10.1097/00000478-199706000-00002). It affects both men and women, although it is more common in middle-aged women. CA is well circumscribed and usually observed on the body surface, primarily in distal genital regions. Aggressive angiomyxoma and angiomyofibroblastoma are clinically and histologically similar; therefore, it may be necessary to distinguish between CA and these similar tumors. We present a rare case of CA, with atypical features, in the re

Juvenile Nasopharyngeal Angiofibroma in Postmenopausal Females: A Potential Link With Hyperandrogenism.

A 54-year-old female presented to the otolaryngology (ENT) outpatient department with an eight-month history of unilateral nasal obstruction and headache. There was no change in the sense of smell, rhinorrhoea, facial pain, or associated epistaxis. On examination, there was a large, erythematous mass in the superior aspect of the right nasal cavity, filling the space between the nasal septum, middle, and superior meatus. The rest of the ENT examination was normal. Vital signs were all within the normal range. There was no significant past medical history, and she had tried steroid nasal spray

Large Angiomatous Nasal Polyp Presents With Epistaxis Imitating Juvenile Nasopharyngeal Angiofibroma.

An angiomatous nasal polyp is a rare subtype of sinonasal polyp that is commonly found in the middle meatus and characterized by the presence of blood vessels within polyp tissue. It is a benign lesion but is prone to misdiagnosis as a malignant tumor because it typically grows larger and is more vascular than other types of polyps. In this report, a 16-year-old male with no significant past medical history presents with a six-month history of epistaxis and progressive nasal obstruction. Examination of the oral cavity showed a centrally located soft palate mass. CT maxillofacial with contrast

Crescentic postinfectious glomerulonephritis in an adult patient with juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma.

Crescentic glomerulonephritis is usually associated with an acute nephritic syndrome with rapidly declining renal function. Postinfectious cases usually have a higher possibility of recovery. Juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma (JNA) is a rare, locally aggressive tumour affecting mostly young men. A 28-year-old man presented with recurrent JNA initially excised 2 years prior. The patient was initially managed as a case of airway obstruction and pneumonia. He developed tea-coloured urine, oedema and acute kidney failure requiring dialysis while awaiting surgery. Urine and immunological studies

Long-term neurological morbidity following endoscopic transnasal resection of juvenile angiofibroma.

OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS: Although transnasal endoscopic resection (TER) of juvenile angiofibroma (JA) is unquestionably less invasive than traditional external approaches, several endonasal and neurovascular structures are sacrificed during the procedure. The aim of this study was to evaluate long-term neurological morbidity and related quality of life following TER of JA. STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective cohort study. METHODS: All patients who underwent TER for JA at the Unit of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery of the University of Brescia from 1994 to 2016 were contacted to know their av
