A micro-process analysis of Functional Analytic Psychotherapy's mechanism of change.

This study sought to clarify the micro-process of Functional Analytic Psychotherapy (FAP) by using the Functional Analytic Psychotherapy Rating Scale (FAPRS) to code every client and therapist turn of speech over the course of successful treatment of an individual meeting diagnostic criteria for depression and histrionic personality disorder. Treatment consisted of cognitive behavioral therapy alone followed by the addition of FAP techniques in a unique A / A+B design. In-session client behavior improved following the shift to FAP techniques, and micro-process data suggested that client behavi

Aggressive symptoms in children with tic disorders.

Episodes of explosive anger and aggression are reported in patients with tic disorders and probably contribute to psychosocial stress and low quality of life. The source of these symptoms is controversial. The objective of the study was to study the relationship between tic disorders, their associated comorbidities, and aggressive behavior. The cohort included 47 children and adolescents (age 7-17 years) with Tourette syndrome or other chronic tic disorders attending a tertiary pediatric Tourette clinic. Associated psychopathology was assessed with the Yale Global Tic Severity Scale, Yale Brow

Factor Validity of a Proactive and Reactive Aggression Rating Scale.

Aggressive behaviors can be classified into proactive and reactive functions, though there is disagreement about whether these are distinct constructs. Data suggest that proactive and reactive aggression have different etiologies, correlates, and response to treatment. Several rating scales are available to characterize aggressive behavior as proactive or reactive; one commonly used scale was originally developed for teacher ratings, referred to here as the Antisocial Behavior Scale (ABS). However, no data are available on the psychometric properties of the ABS for parent ratings. This study e

The Visualization of Nocturnal Scratching Behavior in Pediatric Atopic Dermatitis: Facilitating Shared Decision-Making and Assessing the Efficacy of Treatment.

Itching is a subjective symptom that is especially difficult to assess in pediatric atopic dermatitis (AD) patients with chronic pruritus since early infancy. This study aimed to assess the utility of the Itch Tracker (Maruho Co. Ltd., Osaka, Japan), a smartwatch application, in visualizing nocturnal scratching and facilitating shared decision-making (SDM) in two pediatric AD cases treated with nemolizumab. Objective monitoring revealed discrepancies between self-reported itch and actual scratching behavior, leading to appropriate treatment initiation and significant improvements in scratching

The relationship between stereotypical movement disorder and neuroinflammation.

OBJECTIVE: Stereotypic movement disorder (SMD) is a neurodevelopmental condition frequently co-occurring with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), yet its underlying pathophysiology remains poorly understood. Emerging evidence suggests that neuroinflammatory mechanisms may contribute to the etiology of neurodevelopmental disorders. Based on this, we aimed to investigate the potential role of neuroinflammation, specifically interleukin-1β (IL-1β) and interleukin-6 (IL-6), in the etiopathophysiology of both primary SMD and ASD. METHODS: This cross-sectional study included children and adolescents ag

Improving Peer Interactions and Social Skills in Preschool Children With Autism Using Pivotal Response Treatment.

PURPOSE: Pivotal Response Treatment (PRT) is a naturalistic, child-led behavioral intervention grounded in applied behavior analysis that targets motivational "pivots" to promote generalized social communication. Peer interaction is a core difficulty for many preschoolers with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), yet evidence from randomized designs in group-based settings remains limited. METHODS: In a randomized controlled trial, 30 preschool children with mild to moderate ASD were assigned to either the PRT group (n = 15) or a treatment-as-usual (TAU) group (n = 15). The PRT group received 24 s

[Assessment of hyper- and hypodopaminergic behaviors in Parkinson's disease].

The common perception that Parkinson's disease patients tend to be depressed, anxious, apathetic and harm-avoiding has currently been challenged by the recognition that they can also exhibit a hedonistic, novelty-seeking personality. Thus, Parkinson's disease patients may indulge in their passions in an irresponsible and disinhibited manner, and engage in repetitive, compulsive behaviors that may be harmful and destructive to their social or professional lives. The dopamine dysregulation syndrome includes hypersexuality, pathological gambling, and compulsive shopping; it is associated with add

Association of aggressive behavior with altered serotonergic function in patients who are not suicidal.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to determine whether aggression and serotonergic dysfunction are related in the absence of a history of suicidal behavior. Although serotonergic dysfunction has been implicated in aggressive and impulsive behavior, most studies of such behavior have included individuals with a history of suicide attempts. Low concentrations of CSF 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5-HIAA) have been consistently associated with suicidal behavior, presenting a potential confound in the link between aggression and serotonergic dysfunction. METHOD: The authors examined the assoc
