Linear (thio)carbamates are important molecules in agrochemical and pharmaceutical contexts. However, their synthesis typically involves the use of toxic reagents. Here, we present a benign method to synthesize O-aryl carbamates starting from phenols, primary amines, carbon dioxide and a peptide coupling reagent propanephosphonic acid anhydride (T3P) at atmospheric CO2 pressure and room temperature. The scope was extended to thiols, yielding aryl- and alkyl S-thiocarbamates under similarly mild conditions.

BACKGROUND: A growing body of evidences suggests an association between early exposure to organophosphates (OPs), organochlorines (OCs), pyrethroids or carbamates and autism spectrum disorder (ASD). However, there are limited data about the other pesticide groups, especially in Europe.

In this study, the enantioseparation of 14 planar chiral ferrocenes containing halogen atoms, and methyl, iodoethynyl, phenyl, and 2-naphthyl groups, as substituents, was explored with a cellulose tris(4-methylbenzoate) (CMB)-based chiral column under multimodal elution conditions. n-Hexane/2-propanol (2-PrOH) 95:5 v/v, pure methanol (MeOH), and MeOH/water 90:10 v/v were used as mobile phases (MPs). With CMB, baseline enantioseparations were achieved for nine analytes with separation factors (α) ranging from 1.24 to 1.77, whereas only three analytes could be enantioseparated with 1.14 ≤ α ≤ 1.

A series of carbamate derivatives of Hoechst 33258 was prepared as potential anticancer agents. These new compounds (1-4) were readily prepared in good yields by addition of chloroethyl, bromoethyl, chloropropyl or 4-(chloromethyl)phenyl isocyanates to Hoechst 33258. A carcinogenicity study of urethane was performed for quantitative assessment of its risk in humans. Three hundred 6-week-old male B6C3F1 mice were divided into 6 groups, each consisting of 50 mice, and urethane was given ad libitum in drinking water at levels of 0 (control), 0.6, 3, 6, 60 and 600 ppm for 70 weeks. Ethanol and a variety of other compounds previously have been shown to acutely inhibit the metabolism of ethyl carbamate (EC) when given concurrently in mice. On the other hand, ethanol pretreatment (10% in drinking water for the period 48 to 12 hr prior to EC treatment) is known to have the opposite effect and enhance the clearance of EC from blood of mice.
