This study investigates the relationship between age of mother and children's health and development at birth and at approximately three years of age. The sample is composed of Black and Hispanic women and their firstborn children who were delivered on the wards of a large New York City hospital in 1975. There were no differences between children of teenage and older mothers in terms of prematurity or birthweight, but the children of younger mothers had higher Apgar scores than those of older mothers. Age of mother was not significantly related to hospitalizations, the need to see a physician

The integration of telehealth into maternal and child health (MCH) care presents an opportunity to enhance health equity, offering solutions to bridge gaps in access and quality of care. This paper explores the impact and reach of telehealth services on MCH, emphasizing its potential to address disparities in healthcare access, particularly for underserved and marginalized populations. Telehealth facilitates improved access to care by reducing geographical barriers, offering convenient and flexible consultation options, and providing cost-effective solutions for low-income families. This paper

Health and allied health professionals are uniquely positioned to collaborate in prevention, early intervention and responses to child maltreatment. Effective collaboration requires comprehensive interprofessional education (IPE), and inadequate collaboration across sectors and professions continually contributes to poor outcomes for children. Little is known about what interprofessional preparation health and allied health professionals receive before initial qualification (preservice) that equips them for interprofessional collaboration and provision of culturally safe care in child protecti

INTRODUCTION: Social determinants of health (SDOH) may impact caregivers' ability to implement evidence-based health practices at home during early childhood, especially in families with children with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Therefore, we examined the influence of SDOH and children's diagnosis (typically developing [TD], Down syndrome [DS], autism) on caregiver's self-report of meeting evidence-based health practices.
METHODS: Caregivers (n=172) of children ages 2-6 years (TD: n=93, DS: n=40, autism: n=39) completed an online survey on SDOH and health practices rela

OBJECTIVE: Child Health Programmes (CHPs) are widely implemented in Primary Care, but the territorial consistency of records on childhood obesity and social determinants is unknown. This study aimed to describe CHP implementation and digitalisation and compare indicators, resources and recording procedures across Spain's autonomous communities (ACs).
METHODS: A cross-sectional descriptive study using an ad hoc online questionnaire with ten main questions and thirty-nine items was carried out, completed by one key informant from the Spanish Association of Primary Care Paediatrics in each of th

BACKGROUND: Primary data on antenatal care services in Jordan are stored in diverse systems among hospitals and Mother & Child Health (MCH) centers. The resulting information flow gaps between healthcare levels challenge the quality and continuity of MCH care. To close these data and care delivery gaps, a harmonized Reproductive Health Registry (hRHR) was designed and piloted to bring data in a consistent/digital/readily accessible format and enhance the current health information system. Our study evaluated the perceptions on the newly developed hRHR's improvement of the delivery of sexual an

This study examined rates of mental health disorders and health risk behaviors in people with diverse gender identities and associations with five types of child maltreatment. We used data from the Australian Child Maltreatment Study (ACMS), a nationally representative survey of Australian residents aged 16 years and more, which was designed to understand the experience of child maltreatment (physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, neglect, exposure to domestic violence). Mental disorders-major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), alcohol use disorder, post-traumatic

Child sexual abuse (CSA) is an issue of epidemic proportions in the United Kingdom (UK) and an international public health problem. Evidence suggests that in the UK one in 20 children have been sexually abused, with one in three not telling anyone about it at the time of the abuse. Conservative estimates suggest that around one in six men have experienced sexual abuse before the age of 18. CSA has been correlated with the development of numerous mental health problems, abused men often displaying externalizing behaviours, including substance misuse, 'risky' sexual behaviours, anti-social behav

OBJECTIVE: To understand the reach of the community health worker (CHW) programme in remote and non-remote districts of Afghanistan.
METHODS: Using data collected from the Ministry of Public Health's National Health Management Information System, we conducted a population-based study from 2018 to 2019 in 401 districts across 34 provinces of Afghanistan. We assessed the availability of CHWs, antenatal visits (ANV) and postnatal visits (PNV) conducted by the CHWs, and the availability of CHW supplies. Districts were classified as remote if the district centre was >2 hours by any form of transpo

OBJECTIVE: This paper identifies specific data items for use by state and local agencies in a maternal and child oral health needs assessment model.
METHODS: A modified Delphi approach was used to develop consensus on items for inclusion in the data set and their relative importance. Initially, 31 data items were chosen from several national sources. All state dental directors, along with other selected administrators and advisory committee members for this process, were asked to categorize each of the data items as core (essential), important but optional, or of lesser importance. The National Family Health Survey-6 fact sheets (NFHS-6, 2023-2024) released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, reveal persistent undernutrition, rising urban overweight, widening rural-urban and tribal inequities, and declining exclusive breastfeeding rates, albeit with significant progress in national immunization coverage, antenatal care, and reduction in common childhood illnesses like diarrhea and pneumonia. The absence of mortality indicators limits comprehensive analysis of healthcare utilization and its impact. Persistent regional inequities and gaps in

BACKGROUND: Experiences of early life adversity pose significant psychological and physical health risks to exposed individuals. Emerging evidence suggests that these health risks can be transmitted across generations; however, the mechanisms underlying the intergenerational impacts of maternal early-life trauma on child health remain unknown.
METHODS: The current study used a prospective longitudinal design to determine the unique and joint contributions of maternal childhood trauma (neglect and abuse) and maternal prenatal and postnatal mental health (anxiety and depressive symptoms) (N = 5

RATIONALE: Child maltreatment and problematic parenting are related to negative outcomes for children. Poor parental health could be a risk factor for problematic parenting through several mechanisms: 1) inadequate emotional regulation and coping; 2) impairment of parental capacity; and, 3) impairment of the parent-child relationship.
OBJECTIVE: This study examines relationships between self-rated parental health, prescription drug use, and a broad array of negative parenting outcomes.
METHODS: A sample of general population parents of children aged ten and younger was recruited from 30 mid-
