Spodoptera frugiperda is a highly polyphagous pest that poses a serious threat to global agricultural production. Understanding its species distribution is of great importance under the current context of climate change. In this study, we used the biomod2 platform to integrate six models, namely XGBOOST, Maxnet, Maxent, MARS, GBM, and GLM, to construct an ensemble model. This ensemble model was used to simulate the potential distribution of S. frugiperda under current and three future climate scenarios, and to analyze the main environmental factors influencing its distribution and their change

Climate change is expected to profoundly influence high-elevation Himalayan ecosystems, where steep environmental gradients and narrow climatic tolerances render alpine plant communities particularly sensitive to environmental changes. Many threatened Himalayan medicinal plants occur near alpine-sub-alpine ecotones associated with upper forest limits, and shifts in their distribution may reflect broader ecosystem responses to climate change. Anticipating such range dynamics is essential for biodiversity conservation and sustainable resource management in climate-sensitive mountain landscapes.

This study aims to examine the association between distributed leadership and teacher job satisfaction and the extent to which this relationship is mediated by school innovative climate. A large-scale international sample of 153,682 lower secondary teachers (ISCED level 2) from the TALIS 2018 data was analyzed, using doubly latent multilevel structural equation modeling. Results indicated that teachers' perceived school innovative climate partially mediated the association between perceived distributed leadership and teacher satisfaction with school and fully mediated the association between d

BACKGROUND: Small islands developing states in the Caribbean are exposed to increasingly frequent and intense extreme climatic events, which can exacerbate outbreaks of climate-sensitive infectious diseases. Few forecasting tools incorporate the compound and cascading effects of multiple delayed climatic indicators on disease outbreak risk. We aimed to create an impact-based modelling framework that employs interactions between climatic predictors to forecast the probability of a climate-sensitive infectious disease outbreak 3 months ahead, and to investigate the compound and cascading effects

BACKGROUND: West Nile Virus (WNV) is an endemic public health concern in the United States that produces periodic seasonal epidemics. Underlying these outbreaks is the enzootic cycle of WNV between mosquito vectors and bird hosts. Identifying the key environmental conditions that facilitate and accelerate this cycle can be used to inform effective vector control.
RESULTS: Here, we model and forecast WNV infection rates among mosquito vectors in Suffolk County, New York using readily available meteorological and hydrological conditions. We first validate a statistical model built with surveill

This study presents the first record of Dundubia annandalei Boulard in Bangladesh and assesses its potential range dynamics through MaxEnt modeling under current and future climate scenarios (under the 2041-2026, 2061-2080, and 2081-2100 time periods). A total of 63 specimens, collected from various locations during field surveys in February-March 2025, were identified based on morphological characteristics. The species distribution model exhibited excellent predictive performance (AUC = 0.967). Precipitation of the warmest quarter (64.4%), elevation (10.8%), and precipitation of the driest mo

Climate-driven range shifts are redistributing biodiversity, yet the niche dynamics of Afrotropical and Saharo-Arabian species expanding into the Palearctic remain poorly quantified. The Namaqua Dove (Oena capensis), an arid-zone columbid at the Palearctic margin, was used to assess current and future climatic suitability in Türkiye and to compare its colonised and native niches. An ensemble niche model was fitted from occurrence and climate data, evaluated by cross-validation, and projected to 2070 and 2100 under three emission scenarios and five climate models. Suitability was predicted chie

The tsetse fly Glossina fuscipes is the primary vector of human African trypanosomiasis (sleeping sickness) in Sub-Saharan Africa. While its distribution is confined to Africa, a 1990 report from Saudi Arabia created a long-standing biogeographical puzzle. We used MaxEnt species distribution modeling to project habitat suitability across the Afrotropical Region using 158 spatially filtered G. fuscipes occurrence records and bioclimatic variables generated from TerraClimate data (temperature and precipitation) for the reference period 1982-2023. Variables were selected using variance inflation

Malaria is a persistent public health problem, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa where its transmission is intricately linked to climatic factors. Climate change threatens malaria elimination efforts in limited resource settings, such as in the Mberengwa district. However, the role of climate change in malaria transmission and management has not been adequately quantified to inform interventions. This protocol employs a multi-method quantitative study design in four steps, starting with a scoping review of the literature, followed by a multi-method quantitative approach using geospatial analy

The Asian longhorned beetle, Anoplophora glabripennis (ALB, Coleoptera: Cerambycidae), is a federally regulated invasive species capable of infesting several different genera of hardwood trees. Accurate knowledge of ALB's phenology is critical for the effective implementation of management and eradication plans. We updated the ALBLT prediction model and used empirical data collected in South Carolina, USA to validate ALBLT v. 2.0. The new model largely agreed with ALB life stages found in field collections, except for late instars and pupae. We also ran the model at 8 other potentially high-ri

Urban surfaces are often covered by impermeable materials such as concrete and asphalt which intensify urban runoff and pollutant concentration during storm events, and lead to the deterioration of the quality of surrounding water bodies. Detention ponds are used in urban stormwater management, providing two-fold benefits: flood risk reduction and pollution load minimization. This paper investigates the performance of nine proposed detention ponds (across the city of Renton, Washington, USA) under different climate change scenarios. First, a statistical model was developed to estimate the poll

Emissions from the transportation sector are rapidly changing worldwide; however, the interplay of such emission changes in the face of climate change are not as well understood. This two-part study examines the impact of projected emissions from the U.S. transportation sector (Part I) on ambient air quality in the face of climate change (Part II). In Part I of this study, we describe the methodology and results of a novel Technology Driver Model (see graphical abstract) that includes 1) transportation emission projections (including on-road vehicles, non-road engines, aircraft, rail, and ship

Background Microbial clocks have shown high accuracy in estimating time since death, or post-mortem interval (PMI), across diverse contexts, including controlled laboratory settings, outdoor environments, and both human cadavers and animal models. However, the limited number of studies performed under different environmental and climatic conditions, particularly in Europe, restricts the broader applicability of these models, as data from distinct climates may not reliably translate across geographic regions. This study investigates the nasal thanatomicrobiome of pig carcasses exposed to outdoo

Climate change may substantially alter the habitat suitability and spatial stability of highland edible and medicinal plant resources. Argentina anserina (L.) Rydb. is an important wild resource plant in western China, but its potential distribution and future climate-change response in the three ethnic prefectures of Sichuan Province remain insufficiently understood. In this study, we used an ensemble species distribution modeling framework based on 31 spatially filtered occurrence records and 12 environmental predictors to evaluate the current and future habitat suitability of A. anserina un

The Qinghai-Tibet Plateau hosts the rare alpine Tibetan medicinal herb Corydalis hendersonii Hemsl. The wild resources of C. hendersonii are being increasingly threatened by climate warming and intensified human activity. We employed a biomod2 ensemble species distribution model, integrating climatic variables, light/radiation variables, soil-property layers, topographic variables, and the Human Footprint Index with 75 spatially rarefied occurrence records, to predict the potential geographic distribution and shifts in habitat suitability under SSP126 and SSP585 (2050s, 2070s, and 2090s), clim

BACKGROUND: Air pollution is a major environmental health risk linked to systemic and ocular diseases, including conjunctivitis, keratitis, and dry eye disease. Pollutants such as particulate matter, nitrogen oxides, and diesel exhaust particles have been associated with an increased prevalence of acute ophthalmic inflammatory conditions (AOICs). Identifying key pollutants may help reduce the prevalence of AOICs.
AIM: The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between atmospheric pollution and AOICs by identifying pollutants with the most consistent impact on AOIC prevalence, d

BACKGROUND: Anopheles mosquitoes, vectors of human malaria, are highly sensitive to environmental change. As climate alters temperature and precipitation patterns, mosquito populations may shift in sibling species composition, location and timing, altering transmission dynamics. Understanding these patterns is key for malaria control. This study explores links between meteorological factors and Anopheles abundance across a diversity of sites in Tanga and Unguja, Tanzania, to predict mosquito peaks and support the development of early warning systems for malaria outbreaks.

BACKGROUND: Dengue fever represents a significant and escalating public health challenge in tropical megacities such as Bangkok, Thailand. This study aims to examine the associations between temperature, humidity, rainfall, and wind speed with dengue incidence across multiple lag periods and to explore spatial heterogeneity in these climate-dengue relationships across Bangkok’s urban zones. METHODOLOGY: Analysis of 105,890 confirmed dengue cases reported in Bangkok between 2015 and 2024, stratified across six urban zones. Distributed Lag Non-Linear Models (DLNM) were employed to quantify the e

BACKGROUND: Pediatric hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) has generally been found to be associated with climate. However, knowledge about how this association varies spatiotemporally is very limited, especially when considering the influence of local socioeconomic conditions. This study aims to identify multi-sourced HFMD environmental factors and further quantify the spatiotemporal nonstationary effects of various climate factors on HFMD occurrence.
METHODS: We propose an innovative method, named spatiotemporally varying coefficients (STVC) model, under the Bayesian hierarchical modeling f
