Comparison of closed percutaneous screw reduction versus open reduction and internal fixation in the treatment of frontal sinus fractures: A retrospective study.

The aim of this study was to compare closed percutaneous screw reduction to traditional open reduction-internal fixation (OR-IF) for the treatment of anterior table fractures. Both groups were evaluated in terms of operative variables, complications, and treatment success. Of 32 patients included, 19 patients underwent OR-IF, while 13 underwent percutaneous screw reduction. The median operative time, length of hospital stays, and treatment cost of the OR-IF group were 100 min (range 60-130), 4 days (range 3-9), and $727 (range $642-$1291), respectively. The same variables for the closed reduct

Delayed treatment of femoral neck fractures in 58 children: open reduction internal fixation versus closed reduction internal fixation.

UNLABELLED: The best treatment plan for femoral neck fractures in children in whom treatment is delayed by more than 24 h is unclear because of the limited number of such cases reported. This study compares the outcomes of closed and open reduction performed 24 h after the injury was sustained. We retrospectively reviewed 58 cases (40 males, 18 females) of femoral neck fractures reset after more than a 24-h delay at our hospital (May 2005 to May 2014). According to Delbet's classification, there were 30 type II fractures (51.7%), 21 type III fractures (36.2%), and seven type IV fractures (12.1

Effectiveness of virtual reality in reducing pain and fear in children with closed reduction applied forearm fractures.

BACKGROUND: Painful procedures such as closed reduction of forearm fractures are a major source of procedural pain and fear in children. Virtual reality (VR) has gained attention as a non-pharmacological distraction adjunct to standard care. This study determined the effectiveness of VR in reducing pain and fear in children undergoing closed reduction of forearm fractures. METHOD: A quasi-experimental pre-post test unmatched group design was used in the orthopedics and emergency departments of a training and research hospital between June 2023 and November 2025. Fifty-one children aged 6-12 y

The Effect of Initial Closed Reduction Quality on Patient Outcomes Following Ankle Fractures: A Retrospective Study.

BACKGROUND: Ankle fractures are common injuries associated with significant morbidity. A significant proportion of closed ankle fractures are displaced or unstable, requiring reduction. While early near-anatomic reduction is commonly performed, it is not known whether this affects long-term outcomes. This study aims to identify the association of reduction quality with outcomes in patients with displaced, closed ankle fractures. We hypothesize that patients with anatomic reductions will have fewer complications than patients who have suboptimal reductions. METHODS: A retrospective analysis of

A retrospective study of hip posterior fracture-dislocation: closed reduction at the emergency department or in the operation theater?

BACKGROUND: For hip posterior fracture-dislocation, the current consensus is to perform joint reduction within 6 h to prevent sequelae. However, whether a closed reduction (CR) should be performed at the emergency department (ED) or in the operation theater (OT) remains debatable. We aimed to assess the incidence and factors predictive of CR failure at the ED in patients with hip posterior fracture-dislocation. METHODS: Patients with hip posterior fracture-dislocation between 2009 and 2019 were included. Age, sex, body mass index (BMI), injury severity score, new injury severity score, time f

Comparative Benefits of Open versus Closed Reduction of Condylar Fractures: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

BACKGROUND: Many fractures of the mandibular condylar neck are amenable to both open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) and closed treatment. Clinical outcomes following these two modalities remains a topic of debate. This systematic review critically appraises the literature to compare them following these treatment options. METHODS: A systematic review and meta-analysis was performed to test the null hypothesis of no difference in clinical outcomes in ORIF versus closed treatment of mandibular condyle fractures. Functional outcome following closed reduction and percutaneous osteosynthesis of distal tibia articular fractures in children.

Closed reduction and percutaneous osteosynthesis is an alternative to the open procedure for articular fractures of distal tibia of children. 38 patients were retrospectively reviewed. The measured parameters were : the score of Gleizes and the discrepancies between preoperative radiographic and CT scan measurements and postoperative radiographs. A significant correlation was found between the gap and the step-off in preoperative radiographic and CT scan. A significant decrease of the gap and step-off displacement was noticed after surgery. The Gleizes scoring showed 35 good results, 2 average

Procedural Sedation With Ketamine Versus Propofol for Closed Reduction of Pediatric Both Bone Forearm Fractures.

Effective treatment of pediatric both bone forearm fractures consists of timely restoration of anatomic alignment with manipulation and immobilization, often accomplished with the aid of procedural sedation in the emergency department setting. The current lack of consensus regarding a safe and optimal regimen may result in inadequate sedation, compromised quality of reduction, or patient harm. The current study was conducted to answer the following questions for pediatric both bone forearm fractures treated with closed reduction with either ketamine or propofol procedural sedation: (1) Is ther

Closed Reduction and Percutaneous Pinning of Displaced Pediatric Lateral Condyle Fractures of the Humerus: A Cohort Study.

BACKGROUND: In treating pediatric lateral condyle fractures (LCFs) of the humerus, closed reduction and percutaneous pinning (CRPP) is an attractive alternative to open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) because of the potential decrease in tissue injury, shorter surgical times, and faster functional recovery. However, there is limited information available regarding its outcome. METHODS: The data on 191 pediatric LCFs [163 fractures (85%) treated with ORIF (group 1) and 28 fractures (15%) treated with CRPP (group 2)], who were followed for over 12 weeks, was included in the present analy

Risk factors associated with loss of position after closed reduction of distal radial fractures in children.

BACKGROUND: Closed reductions of distal radial fractures are among the most common orthopaedic operations but up to 39% of fractures lose position postoperatively. This study was carried out to determine the most significant risk factors for loss of position so that high-risk patients can be identified early and their management tailored accordingly. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 48 consecutive children who had redisplacement of their distal radial fractures after closed reduction and compared them with 48 matched controls. Fourteen risk factors were studied and analyzed with univariat
