Connexin 43 (Cx43) expression is associated with an increased cell migration and related changes of the actin cytoskeleton (enhanced filopodia formation). Ovariectomized female rats were used to test the possibility that the 5-HT(1A) receptor agonist, 8-hydroxy-2-(di-N-propylamino) tetralin (8-OH-DPAT), inhibits cyclic AMP (cAMP) accumulation in the mediobasal hypothalamus. Tissue slices were incubated with forskolin or with the beta-adrenergic receptor agonist, isoproterenol, to stimulate accumulation of cAMP. Both compounds increased accumulation of cAMP. Ductal elements within salivary glands are responsible for modifying the electrolyte composition of primary saliva secreted by the acini. To study the mechanism and regulation of the transport processes involved requires a suitable preparation of functional ducts. Excess iodide inhibits several thyroid parameters, by a putative organic iodocompound. Frog esophageal mucosa contains peptide glands which release pepsinogen in response to a variety of secretagogues and serves as a model to examine the inhibitory action of somatostatin. The pepsinogen secretion in response to bethanechol was inhibited by somatostatin in a noncompetitive fashion. The maximal response induced by bethanechol was reduced and the EC50 for bethanechol was increased in the presence of somatostatin. On the other hand, somatostatin showed essentially no effect on pepsinogen release evoked by ionophore A23187, dibutyryl cAMP or by forskolin in the presence of atropine.

The efflux of GSH has been shown previously to be a saturable process in both isolated rat hepatocytes and perfused liver, suggesting a carrier-mediated transport mechanism. The possibility in hormonal regulation of this process has been raised by recent reports. Our present work examined the role of hormones known to affect intracellular signal transduction mechanisms on GSH efflux in cultured rat hepatocytes and perfused rat livers. We found that cAMP-dependent factors, such as cholera toxin (CT), dibutyryl cAMP, forskolin, and glucagon all stimulated GSH efflux in cultured rat hepatocytes.

The present experiments measured cAMP and cGMP in the arterial chemosensory tissue of the rabbit carotid body exposed for 10 min in vitro to normoxic or hypoxic conditions, or to specific activators of adenylate cyclase (forskolin) and guanylate cyclase (sodium nitroprusside).
