IMPORTANCE: Hispanic and Latino individuals with hemodialysis-dependent kidney failure experience social barriers that may increase their risk for volume-related complications, including fluid accumulation between dialysis sessions or interdialytic weight gain (IDWG). Higher IDWG contributes to cardiovascular complications, hospitalizations, and poor quality of life. Minimizing IDWG is prioritized by patients, clinicians, and payers; yet, high IDWG remains common despite dietary education.
OBJECTIVE: To determine if community health worker (CHW) support reduces IDWG among Hispanic and Latino

Background/Objectives: Previous research has linked religious involvement to increased rates of breastfeeding initiation and duration, as well as improved lactation-related health outcomes. However, affiliation with certain faith traditions may also constrain breastfeeding practices due to misconceptions, modesty norms, religiously informed cultural beliefs, or other contextual factors. Given Mississippi's status as one of the most religious states in the United States, this study examines unique facets of the association between religion and breastfeeding, with special attention to the direct

PurposeThis commentary examines the growing burden on family caregivers in the United States and argues for the strategic integration of community health workers (CHWs) into caregiver support models as a practical, equity-centered solution.Major FindingsFamily caregivers provide the majority of long-term care in the United States, but receive limited formal support despite escalating care demands and increasing complexity. As caregiving continues shifting into community and home settings, CHWs are uniquely positioned to address this gap through care navigation, coordination, education, and cul

OBJECTIVE: The study examined the context, training needs, and extent to which community pharmacists in Nigeria have the knowledge, resources, and capability to manage OA in line with evidence-based recommendations.
METHODS: Focus group discussions (n = 2) were conducted. Discussions explored current practice, the support needs, and perceptions of a new OA care model where pharmacists could be trained to screen, educate, and refer patients. Data was analyzed thematically, including stakeholder workshops to aid interpretation.
RESULTS: Data from two focus groups with 22 healthcare professio

BACKGROUND: Individuals released from prisons to community supervision often experience unstable housing, unemployment, substance misuse, mental ill-health, and lack of support systems contributing to high rates of recidivism. Occupational therapy practitioners have distinct value in promoting engagement in new habits and routines to support "occupation," or development of daily living skills to support community reentry.
OBJECTIVE: We developed an occupational therapy (OT) program within a Department of Corrections (DOC) Community Supervision Center in the Midwest United States. The purpose

BACKGROUND: Social support is commonly examined as a protective factor for children with a history of child maltreatment, and it has been measured by self-report via the Social Support Scale for Children (SSSC). Although the SSSC has established adequate reliability and validity in community and clinical samples, its psychometric properties have yet to be assessed in a sample of foster care youth.
OBJECTIVE: This study provided a psychometric comparison of the SSSC in youth residing in foster care with youth residing in the community.

Little is known about the level and correlates of social support amongst people who use methamphetamine. We aimed to describe, and determine characteristics associated with, social support amongst a community-recruited cohort of Australians who primarily smoked methamphetamine. A cross-sectional study was conducted with data from the Victorian Methamphetamine Cohort Study (VMAX). Adults (aged ≥18 years) who used methamphetamine were recruited from June 2016 to March 2020 across metropolitan and non-metropolitan areas using convenience, snowball, and respondent-driven sampling. Social support w

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to explore factors influencing community service organisation (CSO) staff members' willingness to provide tobacco cessation support to clients experiencing disadvantage.
METHODS: Face-to-face semi-structured interviews were conducted with 29 staff members from seven services in the alcohol and other drugs, homelessness, and mental health sectors in Western Australia.
RESULTS: The primary barriers to providing cessation support were believing that addressing smoking was not a priority relative to other issues, being a current smoker, and the lack of a formal tobacc

Informal homelessness or, as Centrepoint describe, 'the hidden homeless' includes young people who may sleep on their friends' or extended family's couches or floor. They estimate that 103,000 people aged 16-24 in the United Kingdom presented to their Local Authority in 2017-2018 as being or at risk of being homeless. A proportion of young people who experience homelessness rely on their own resources rather than approaching their Local Authority for support. There are a number of barriers that make it harder for any homeless person to access services to enhance their emotional well-being. If

There is good evidence that 50% or more of red blood cell (RBC) transfusions are unnecessary. To curtail inappropriate RBC transfusions at our hospital, real-time clinical decision support was implemented in our electronic medical record (EMR) that alerts clinicians to the patient's most recent pretransfusion hemoglobin value upon order entry and provides Best Practice Advisory. This is a soft pop-up alert which is activated when the hemoglobin exceeds 7 g/dL. The ordering clinician can either honor (by cancelling the order) or override the alert. We studied the impact of the alert on blood ut

BACKGROUND: Globally the older population is increasing rapidly. As a result there is an increase in frail older persons living within the community, with increased risks of a hospital admission and higher mortality and morbidity rates. Due to complexity of care, health care professionals face challenges in providing effective case management and avoiding unplanned admissions to hospital. A community virtual ward (CVW) model was developed to assist health care professionals to support older persons at home during periods of illness and/or functional decline.
METHODS: A quantitative observatio

OBJECTIVE: Community Partners in Care (CPIC) was a group-randomized study of two approaches to implementing expanded collaborative depression care: Community Engagement and Planning (CEP), a coalition approach, and Resources for Services (RS), a technical assistance approach. Collaborative care networks in both arms involved health care and other agencies in five service sectors. This study examined six- and 12-month outcomes for CPIC participants with serious mental illness.
METHODS: This secondary analysis focused on low-income CPIC participants from racial-ethnic minority groups with serio

AIMS: To examine the effectiveness of a community-based multilevel peer support intervention in addition to usual diabetes care on improving glycaemic levels, blood pressure and lipids in patients with Type 2 diabetes in Yaoundé, Cameroon.
METHODS: A total of 96 subjects with poorly controlled Type 2 diabetes (intervention group) and 96 age- and sex-matched controls were recruited and followed up over 6 months. The intervention subjects underwent a peer support intervention through peer-led group meetings, personal encounters and telephone calls. Both intervention subjects and controls contin

In October 1995, community attitudes toward needle exchange programs were assessed in Baltimore, Maryland. Household interviews were conducted with a random sample of residents living within six contiguous census tracts. Multivariate logistic regression was used to determine which factors were independently associated with acceptance of needle exchange programs. Of 274 eligible respondents contacted, 138 (50%) completed the interview. Respondents were statistically similar to the 1990 census population by income but were more likely to be female, black, between the ages of 35 and 44 years, and

OBJECTIVE: Obesity is a major modifiable risk factor for gastrointestinal disease. Although lifestyle modification remains the basis of treatment, these interventions are often ineffective when self-directed. This study aimed to assess the effect on weight loss when lifestyle modification is paired with a support group model.
METHODS: Ninety-four patients with obesity enrolled in the weight loss program at a community gastroenterology practice and participated in a 6-month support group. These sessions provided patients with a space to discuss shared experiences and receive education. Total b

BACKGROUND: LGBTQIA+ community members report greater risks for alcohol misuse problems. In response, researchers are encouraged to identify protective factors in the development of prevention programming. Namely, it is important to deconstruct how LGBTQIA+ individuals use support mechanisms to buffer the effects of risk factors (positive emotions) on alcohol misuse outcomes. The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether social support indices moderated the relationship between positive emotions and alcohol misuse.
METHODS: A community sample of 169 LGBTQIA+ individuals completed a series
