Concurrent Presentation of Mycosis Fungoides and Primary Cutaneous Marginal Zone LPD: Clinicopathological Study of 4 Cases and Literature Review.

BACKGROUND: Mycosis fungoides is rarely associated to B-cell malignancies, and the few reported cases are mainly internal lymphomas involving secondarily the skin (ie, chronic lymphocytic leukemia). OBJECTIVES: The aim of our study is to describe the clinical and histopathological features of 4 patients presenting with 2 concurrent primary cutaneous lymphomas and review the pertinent literature. METHODS: We identified 4 cases of concurrent primary cutaneous lymphomas in our institutions. An extracutaneous lymphoma was ruled out on the basis of a complete work out. We performed a PubMed searc

Multiple intestinal hemangioma concurrent with low-grade appendiceal mucinous neoplasm presenting as intussusception-a case report and literature review.

BACKGROUND: Cases with intussusception caused by either intestinal hemangiomas or appendiceal mucinous neoplasms are extremely rare. CASE PRESENTATION: In this study, we reported a 47-year-old male presented with paroxysmal abdominal pain and postprandial bloating for 3 days. CT results indicated a high possibility of secondary intussusception in ascending colon. Histopathology indicated a mixed type of cavernous and capillary hemangioma, combined with low-grade appendiceal mucinous neoplasms (LAMNs) and intestinal obstruction. The patient underwent laparotomy and right hemicolectomy. Finally

Staged versus concurrent native nephrectomy and renal transplantation in patients with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease: A systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Patients with Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease (ADPKD) frequently undergo native nephrectomy before transplantation. The nephrectomy may be a staged procedure or undertaken simultaneously with transplantation. When performed simultaneously, the transplant procedure is more prolonged, involves a larger operative field and incision. There is also a concern of a greater risk of graft loss with simultaneous nephrectomy and transplantation. Moreover, staged surgery may allow nephrectomy to be performed before immunosuppression introduction via a smaller incision or involving

Low-dose rituximab and concurrent adjuvant therapy for pemphigus: Protocol and single-centre long-term review of nine patients.

Pemphigus is an autoimmune B-cell mediated blistering disease associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Rituximab has proven effective for the treatment of steroid-refractory pemphigus, although there is controversy over the optimum dosing protocol. Additionally, effective disease control often requires long-term immunosuppression, even in disease-free periods. We present a case series of a single-centre long-term follow up of nine patients with pemphigus, treated with two 500-mg doses of rituximab separated by 14 days along with concurrent adjuvant therapy. In all these patients, l

Obinutuzumab for the treatment of podocytopathy with concurrent suspected but unconfirmed B-cell lymphoproliferative disorder: a case report and literature review.

B-lymphocyte proliferative disorder have a certain incidence rate among the elderly. Whether these conditions require treatment is closely related to the presence of concurrent organ damage. This case report details the diagnostic journey and treatment process of a 76-year-old male patient who presented with nephrotic syndrome and acute kidney injury. His condition was further complicated by the presence of monoclonal M proteinemia and the malignant B-lymphocytes in the bone marrow. Through a series of examinations, a diagnosis of podocytopathy with suspected but unconfirmed B-cell lymphoproli

Concurrent Elevation of CEA and CA 19-9 in a Patient with Allergic Bronchopulmonary Aspergillosis: A Case Report and Literature Review.

OBJECTIVE: Serum carbohydrate antigen (CA 19-9) and carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) are common tumor markers that are mainly used in the diagnosis and therapeutic evaluation of malignant tumors. Here, we detail a case of allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA) presenting with elevation of CEA and CA 19-9 levels. CASE REPORT: A 22-year-old non-asthmatic male presented with recurrent cough, white mucopurulent sputum, and elevated serum CEA (20.55 ng/mL) and CA 19-9 (>1000 U/mL) levels. Investigations revealed Aspergillus-positive sputum culture, central bronchiectasis, mucus plugs on CT,

A narrative review on synchronous concurrent versus delayed sequential surgery in the artificial urinary sphincter and penile prosthesis implantation.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: In a patient who complains of both stress urinary incontinence (SUI) and erectile dysfunction (ED), prosthetic surgery with a urinary continence device and penile prosthesis implant can offer a definitive solution to address both problems. The AMS 800 artificial urinary sphincter (AUS) device is considered the standard of care to restore SUI while the inflatable penile prosthesis (IPP) device is thought to be superior to a malleable prosthesis to provide a more natural penile erection with higher patient satisfaction rates. The following article explores the current u

Pediatric Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis Triggered by Concurrent Administration of Seasonal and H1N1 Influenza Vaccines: A Case Report and Review.

BACKGROUND: Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM) is a rare, immune-mediated inflammatory disorder of the central nervous system (CNS), typically characterized by the acute onset of multifocal demyelination. The pathogenesis of ADEM remains unclear, but it is believed to be triggered by an autoimmune response, often following viral infections or vaccinations. CASE REPORT: This case report describes a 3-year-old child who developed ADEM after receiving two concurrent influenza vaccines: one for seasonal influenza and one for the 2009 H1N1 pandemic. The patient presented with motor regres

Concurrent validity of inertial measurement units in range of motion measurements of upper extremity: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Inertial measurement units (IMUs) have proven to be valuable tools in measuring the range of motion (RoM) of human upper limb joints. Although several studies have reported on the validity of IMUs compared to the gold standard (optical motion capture system, OMC), a quantitative summary of the accuracy of IMUs in measuring RoM of upper limb joints is still lacking. Thus, the primary objective of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to determine the concurrent validity of IMUs for measuring RoM of the upper extremity in adults. Fifty-one articles were included in the systematic review,

Concurrent inflammatory bowel disease and primary sclerosing cholangitis: a review of pre- and post-transplant outcomes and treatment options.

Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC) is a chronic cholestatic liver disease which is associated with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) in 70% of cases. It seems PSC/IBD is a distinct phenotype that is different from PSC, and IBD alone. Hence, we review the epidemiology, pathogenesis, natural course and management of PSC/IBD before and after LT for PSC. Extensive colitis, rectal sparing, backwash ileitis, and mild symptoms are the characteristics of IBD coexisting with PSC. Moreover, PSC patients with concurrent IBD have higher risk of cholangiocarcinoma, and colorectal neoplasia predominantly i

Symptom management during and after treatment with concurrent chemoradiotherapy for oropharyngeal cancer: A review of the literature and areas for future research.

Patients with locally advanced oropharyngeal cancer are at risk for poor outcomes due to the multi-modal nature of treatment and the potential for treatment-related toxicity. Although treatment with concurrent chemotherapy and radiotherapy has drastically reduced the need for a debilitating and disfiguring surgery, treatment related toxicities are often difficult to control. Acute toxicities include mucositis, skin desquamation, depression, cachexia, fatigue and nausea and vomiting. Failure to control these symptoms can adversely affect the patient's ability to complete their treatment regimen

Concurrent spindle-cell thymoma and thymic cysts in a Barbary sheep (Ammotragus lervia): case report and review of the literature.

An ~21-year-old female Barbary sheep (Ammotragus lervia) died spontaneously following a lengthy episode of difficulty in walking. An ~6 × 3 × 3 cm, unilocular cystic growth was found in the cranioventral thorax. The fibrotic cystic wall, lined by a single layer of flattened to cuboidal epithelial cells, was invaginated and partially encircled solid masses of fusiform neoplastic cells with multiple intratumoral cystic structures. The fusiform neoplastic cells were intensely positive for cytokeratin (CK) and partially positive for α-smooth muscle actin and vimentin, but negative for thyroid tran

Is concurrent chemoradiation the standard of care for locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer? A review of guidelines and evidence.

In the past 15 years, the treatment of locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) has shifted from radiotherapy alone. There are now schedules using induction chemotherapy, concurrent chemoradiation using either radiosensitising doses of chemotherapy or full-dose chemotherapy, consolidation chemotherapy after radiation or combinations of these options. There is no consensus on the optimal chemotherapy regimen and its scheduling and the issue of radiation dose and optimal fractionation equally remains unresolved. This overview is in two sections. First, we have evaluated a selection of

Left-sided splenorenal fusion with marked extramedullary hematopoiesis and concurrent lithium toxicity. A case report and review of the literature.

Occasionally, heterotopic splenic tissue can occur in the renal fossa secondary to splenosis following splenic trauma or splenectomy. More rarely, it can represent a developmental anomaly secondary to the fusion of splenic and renal tissues. Splenorenal fusion can present as a renal mass, mimicking primary or secondary renal neoplasms on imaging studies, and patients can also present with symptoms of hypersplenism (anemia). We report a case of splenorenal fusion in a 51-year-old woman who initially presented with lithium toxicity, anemia, thrombocytosis, and a large renal mass that mimicked a
