Topical Treatment of Facial Seborrheic Dermatitis: A Systematic Review.

BACKGROUND: Facial seborrheic dermatitis (SD), a chronic inflammatory skin condition, can impact quality of life, and relapses can be frequent. Three broad categories of agents are used to treat SD: antifungal agents, keratolytics, and corticosteroids. Topical therapies are the first line of defense in treating this condition. OBJECTIVE: Our objective was to critically review the published literature on topical treatments for facial SD. METHODS: We searched PubMed, Scopus, Clinicaltrials.gov, MEDLINE, Embase, and Cochrane library databases for original clinical studies evaluating topical tre

Topical herbal formulae in the management of psoriasis: systematic review with meta-analysis of clinical studies and investigation of the pharmacological actions of the main herbs.

This systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) examined the topical use of multi-herbal formulations for the management of psoriasis vulgaris. Studies were identified from PubMed, Cochrane library, EMBASE, and the Chinese databases CNKI and CQVIP. Methods were according to the Cochrane Handbook and meta-analyses used RevMan 5.1. Nine studies met the inclusion/exclusion criteria. The comparisons were with placebo and/or anti-psoriatic pharmacotherapy (APP) with two studies having three arms. The pooled meta-analysis data indicated the topical herbal formulae imp

Therapeutic interventions for vitiligo.

BACKGROUND: Current treatments for vitiligo, a common pigmentary disorder affecting around 1% of the world's population, are largely unsatisfactory. OBJECTIVE: We sought to report a Cochrane review of all interventions for the treatment of vitiligo. METHODS: We systematically searched a range of databases for randomized controlled trials. At least two reviewers independently assessed study eligibility, methodological quality, and extracted data. RESULTS: Nineteen trials were included. We found moderate evidence of the benefit of topical steroids. Our search uncovered limited to moderate evi

Development of a standard for epilepsy semiology and semiological description dataset: a modified Delphi study.

OBJECTIVE: Epilepsy semiology is a major component of epilepsy diagnosis and plays a crucial role in its clinical management. This study aimed to develop the "Standard for Epilepsy Semiology and Semiological Description Dataset" to provide a reference for clinical practice and research, and to promote the standardization of relevant data. This work lays the foundation for the further development and construction of specialized epilepsy databases. A modified Delphi method was employed to reach a consensus on the framework and content of the dataset. METHODS: Two rounds of the Delphi process we

A comprehensive database for biological data derived from sewage in five European cities.

Sewage metagenomics is a powerful tool for proactive pathogen surveillance and understanding microbial community dynamics. To support such efforts, we present a highly curated and accessible longitudinal dataset of 239 sewage samples collected from five European cities. The dataset, processed through metagenomic sequencing, includes rich analytical outputs such as taxonomic profiles, identified antimicrobial resistance genes, assembled contigs with annotated origins, metagenome-assembled genomes with functional gene annotations, and metadata. Given the computational intensity and time required

Large Language Models for Automating Clinical Trial Criteria Conversion to Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership Common Data Model Queries: Validation and Evaluation Study.

BACKGROUND: Real-world data-based feasibility assessments enhance clinical trial design, but automating eligibility criteria conversion to database queries is hindered by challenges related to ensuring high accuracy and generating clear, usable outputs. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is to develop an automated system converting free-text eligibility criteria from ClinicalTrials.gov into Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership Common Data Model (OMOP CDM)-compatible Structured Query Language (SQL) queries and systematically evaluate hallucination patterns across multiple large language mo

Ultrasonography in the Diagnosis of Temporomandibular Disorders: A Meta-Analysis.

BACKGROUND The increased prevalence of temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) requires searching for new, easily accessible diagnostic methods. In addition to routine clinical examination, various methods of imaging temporomandibular joints are available, such as magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography scans, or scintigraphy. Ultrasound imaging, due to short examination time, low cost, and non-invasiveness, should be recommended as a routine diagnostic procedure. The aim of the study was to investigate whether ultrasound imaging can be used in the diagnosis of temporomandibular joint disor

Pathology of lacunar ischemic stroke in humans--a systematic review.

Twenty-five percent of ischemic strokes are lacunar in type, but the cause remains unclear. Pathological descriptions of lacunar lesions are available but have not been systematically assessed. We therefore systematically summarized studies describing lacunar lesions by extracting data on the number of patients and lesions, clinical details, pathological methods, brain regions and/or vessels examined, and both parenchymal and vascular findings. Among 39 papers describing >4000 lesions (>50% from one study), 15 papers examined patients with a clinical lacunar syndrome. Terminology varied, many

Exercises following anterior cruciate ligament reconstructive surgery: biomechanical considerations and efficacy of current approaches.

To enable a safe, effective return to daily functional activities and to prevent premature knee joint osteoarthritis, adults undergoing anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) surgery require carefully designed and appropriate rehabilitation strategies. In this article we critically examine the contemporary body of literature concerning the application and outcomes of various knee exercise rehabilitation protocols described in the literature in the context of the surgically repaired ACL injured knee. These data were obtained from the MEDLINE (1991-2007), CINAHL (1982-2007), and SPORTS DISCUS (1975-20
