A case of huge pineal teratoma mimicking a dermoid cyst is reported. Although both computed tomography and surgical findings were entirely similar to those of a dermoid cyst, close histological examinations using the serial sectioning technique of a small solid portion attached to the pineal region revealed tissue components of both mesodermal and entodermal origins among mostly epidermal and dermal components. The importance of serial sectioning of the surgical specimens of seemingly a dermoid cyst is stressed.

Introduction: Epidermoid cysts are benign lesions that may occur in many different sites of the body. They are classified into 3 types: epidermoid cysts when the lining presents only epithelium, dermoid cysts when skin adnexa are found, and teratoid cysts when mesodermal elements are present. Case Presentation: A 13-year-old boy presented with a gradually enlarging sublingual mass over a period of 4 years. The mass was painless at start but in the last 3 months, it was associated with pain and difficulties during eating and dysarthria. The general examination was unremarkable and examination o

A 58-year-old female presented with abdominal pain, vomiting and constipation. Laboratory tests indicated elevated white blood cell count and C-reactive protein levels. Imaging via CT scan revealed a large cystic mass in the right ovary, abscesses and generalized small bowel distension, which initially raised suspicion of the existence of ovarian cancer with peritoneal carcinomatosis. Despite conservative management, the patient's condition did not improve, prompting a laparotomy. Intraoperative findings included generalized peritonitis, significant small bowel dilation due to inflammatory adh

Multiple primary intracranial tumors, or the presence of two or more primary intracranial tumors, are a rare clinical occurrence. The current study presents the case of a 28-year-old patient with concurrent left vestibular schwannoma, left cerebellar hemisphere dermoid cyst and craniovertebral junction malformation, specifically basilar invagination and Klippel-Feil syndrome. The patient exhibited symptoms of torticollis and recurrent headaches, with no apparent hearing loss. A far lateral approach was selected for surgical resection to address these complex conditions and achieve gross total

A 5-year-old neutered female mixed cat presented with reduced activity and ataxia of the hind limbs. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging revealed an extradural mass compressing the spinal cord on the dorsal aspects from the 7th to 8th thoracic vertebra. Dorsal laminectomy was performed on the 7-8th thoracic vertebra and the cyst was totally removed, giving full resolution of the clinical signs. The cyst was diagnosed as a dermoid cyst. To our knowledge, this is the first report of feline dermoid cyst compressing the spinal cord that was diagnosed antemortem. The prognosis is fav

Ovarian cysts are common during pregnancy as an outcome of routine prenatal ultrasounds. Although most cases are benign, complications, such as torsion, rupture, and malignant changes, can occur. Torsion risk increases fivefold during pregnancy. It is extremely hazardous to expectant mothers and unborn children. In a rural health tertiary center, we report the case of a 23-year-old primigravida with 14 weeks of pregnancy presented with acute abdomen and nausea, vomiting for four hours. On ultrasonography, she was diagnosed with a 14 cm × 11 cm left dermoid cyst. She underwent a laprotomy, and

INTRODUCTION: Spinal intramedullary dermoid is very rare, accounting for <1% of intraspinal tumors. It can be congenital or acquired. They usually present in 2nd or 3rd decade of life in adults. It may or may not associated with spinal dysraphism. It is asymptomatic in most cases, manifest acutely if it ruptures. Long segment involvement of spinal intramedullary tumor in adult without the history of trauma makes this case unique. Fat suppression imaging helps to distinguish adipose tissue from lesions causing hematomyelia in patients presented with intramedullary hyperintensity in both T1 & T2

Congenital midline nasal lesions are extremely rare, and nasal dermoids are their most common presentation. To the best of our knowledge, only two cases of a philtrum sinus with skull base extension have been reported previously. A 3-year-old boy presented to the maxillofacial department with a discharging upper lip sinus that had been present from birth. No other congenital abnormalities were reported. Initially this sinus was assumed to be blind-ended and excised under general anaesthetic, but the area then failed to heal. Radiological work-up showed a patent dermal sinus that extended from

OBJECTIVE: Intracranial dermoid cysts are rare, slow-growing masses of sellar, parasellar regions, and posterior cranial fossa. The symptomatology of these cysts depends on the localization and presence of rupture. The preoperative diagnosis of these cysts by imagining techniques is distinctive as they have characteristic appearances.
PATIENT: Endoscopic transnasal transpterygoid approach to infratemporal fossa for an extradural dermoid cyst of a 24 year-old woman is presented in this clinical report. Headache, dizziness, and retro orbital pain were her main complaints and diagnostic imaginin

Pediatric cervicofacial actinomycosis is a rare occurrence consequent to dental infections and manipulations or maxillofacial trauma. The clinical presentation ranges from multiple draining sinuses to swellings resembling tumors and cysts. The present unusual case had congenital dermoid cyst of mid upper lip with Actinomyces israelii infection identified on microscopy, culture, and histopathology. A successful outcome in the present case was obtained using combination of medical and surgical treatment.

Nasal dermoid sinus cysts are the most common congenital midline nasal lesions. We describe a novel technique for the excision of a nasal dermoid cyst in a 2-year-old boy using a four hand endoscopic approach via a small scalp incision behind the hairline. The technique, although somewhat challenging, avoids a facial scar.

A dermoid cyst is the result of inclusion of epithelial cells along the lines of embryonic closure. Dermoid cysts of the head neck are uncommon and account for only 7% of all such cysts. They are most often reported as arising in the floor of the mouth. Dermoid cyst is rarely seen in the parotid gland. To our knowledge, there have been only six previous case reports in the English literature. Dermoid cyst of the parotid gland in pediatric patient has not been previously reported in the literature. This is the first case report concerning a dermoid cyst in a pediatric patient.

BACKGROUND: Peters anomaly is a rare congenital glaucoma disease. The Peters' plus syndrome is characterized by distinct malformations. As some of the common craniofacial malformations like cleft lip and palate are frequent in Peters' plus syndrome, no nasal dermoid sinus cysts has been reported so far. Nasal dermoid sinus cysts usually present in isolation, although associations to other anomalies or syndromes are possible. The occurrence of such an anomaly may be either accidental, or present a syndrome association.
PATIENTS AND METHOD: One patient with an unilateral cleft lip and Peters' p

It is rare for a dermoid cyst to develop intratumoral hemorrhage. A 61-year-old woman had a sudden-onset left hemiparesis and slow response to verbal requests for one week when unenhanced computed tomography scanning revealed a mixed iso- and hypo-dense heterogeneous lesion in the right fronto-temporal area. T1-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brain showed a mixed hyper- and hypo-intense tumor in the right fronto-temporal area. The tumor became hyperintense on T2-weighted MRI and was faintly enhanced at tumor periphery on T1-weighted MRI. The tumor was excised and pathological

Five cases of nasal dermoid cyst are presented. Three out of five cases were settled during childhood. Three presented a mass with a hole on the external nose with recurrent local infections. One case was wrongly referred for a dacryocystitis. The first one was detected during an infection of the cerebral extension and frontal abscess was assessed by CT scan and MRI. Two patients had other associated congenital abnormalities: hypotrophy of the external ear in one case, multiples malformations in an other. Adequate exposure and cosmetic results are sometimes contradictory to define the best sur

BACKGROUND: Cranial dermal sinuses are rare and occur most frequently in the posterior fossa and along the midline. Likewise, supratentorial dermoid cysts are very uncommon.
METHOD: We report a unique case of an adult female patient with both a supratentorial dermoid cyst and an incomplete dermal sinus tract.
RESULTS: The patient is a 31-year-old female, who presented with a new onset complex partial seizure. Neuroimaging and surgery revealed a right superior temporal dermoid cyst with an associated dermal sinus tract. Furthermore, the dermal sinus tract was incomplete and had no cutaneous m
