Background: In the past 3 decades, there has been an increase in the number of studies assessing exercise as a form of treatment for substance use disorders (SUDs). While a variety of substance types and outcomes have been assessed, exercise intensities have never been systematically examined. Consequently, it remains unclear whether particular forms of exercise are better suited to the treatment of these populations. Anaerobic exercise has been shown to have positive effects in populations with psychiatric disorders, but its effectiveness in the treatment of SUDs has to date not been reviewed

Parkinson disease (PD) is a progressive, neurodegenerative movement disorder with symptoms reflecting various impairments and functional limitations, such as postural instability, gait disturbance, immobility and falls. In addition to pharmacological and surgical management of PD, exercise and physical therapy interventions are also being actively researched. This Review provides an overview of the effects of PD on physical activity - including muscle weakness, reduced aerobic capacity, gait impairment, balance disorders and falls. Previously published reviews have discussed only the short-ter

STUDY DESIGN: Case report.
BACKGROUND: Neck-tongue syndrome (NTS) is defined as neck and/or head pain accompanied by ipsilateral dysesthesia of the tongue with sudden rotation of the head. Proposed causes include compression or irritation of the C2 nerve root as it courses behind the atlantoaxial joint or hypertrophy of the inferior oblique muscle. The primary purpose of this case report was to describe the conservative physical therapy treatment of a patient with uncomplicated NTS.
CASE DESCRIPTION: The patient was a 13-year-old girl who reported insidious onset of sharp pain in the neck, n

Former studies on the effects of physical exercise, physical and occupational therapy (PT, OT) and speech and swallowing therapy (ST, SwT) in Parkinson's disease (PD) have demonstrated little or uncertain effects. New pathophysiological concepts have been developed. Recent controlled high-level studies demonstrate improvement of mobility and balance after training of muscular strength and endurance, trunk control, and amplitude and rhythmicity of movements (treadmill). Attentional and cognitive strategies were found to enforce body awareness and improve movement sequences. Dance, sensory (audi

European journal of cardiovascular prevention and rehabilitation : official journal of the European Society of Cardiology, Working Groups on Epidemiology & Prevention and Cardiac Rehabilitation and Exercise Physiology2010eng
Muscular fatigue and dyspnoea on exertion are among the most common symptoms in chronic heart failure; however their origin is still poorly understood. Several studies have shown that cardiac dysfunction alone cannot fully explain their origin, but the contribution of the multiorgan failure present in this syndrome must be highlighted. We aimed to summarize the existing evidence and the most controversial aspects of the complex interplay of different factors involved in the symptom generation. In the first part of the review, six key factors were revised (the heart, the lung, the skeletal musc

The effect of exercise training on delta Vo2/delta WR was studied in 12 patients(11 men, one woman, mean age 62 +/- 9 yr)with chronic heart failure(old myocardial infarction, dilated cardiomyopathy, patients after coronary arterial bypass graft surgery and patients after aortic valve replacement). Cardiopulmonary exercise testing was performed to decide the exercise tolerance and assess the delta Vo2/delta WR. Patients underwent physical training at the anaerobic threshold for 3 months. Cardiopulmonary exercise testing was performed after the second week and after the third month. The anaerobi

OBJECTIVE: Aquatic exercise therapy has gained recognition as a valuable non-pharmacological intervention for managing musculoskeletal disorders. Despite the growing body of evidence supporting its efficacy, research on aquatic exercise therapy remains fragmented, with limited understanding of key trends, influential studies, and evolving themes within the field. This study aims to conduct a comprehensive bibliometric analysis to identify publication trends, key authors, and the evolution of research themes in aquatic exercise therapy for musculoskeletal disorders.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a complex multisystem, chronic and so far, incurable disease affecting millions of people worldwide. With the continuing need for better therapeutic options for PD, there is a global renewed interest in cell replacement therapy due to progress in using pluripotent stem cells as an unlimited source of dopaminergic (DA) neurons for cell transplantation. Despite the significant progress made, obstacles remain that interfere with the restoration of functional circuits by DA grafts. The functional connectivity between DA grafts and host cells may be enhanced by adjunctiv

OBJECTIVE: Postoperative patients with temporomandibular joint internal derangement (ID) often have problems such as limited mouth opening and pain. Exercise therapy can be advantageous for improving the recovery of patients following surgery. However, there is continuing discussion on the precise aspects of the exercise program, including the optimal timing, length, intensity, and use of assistive equipment. Hence, this study aimed to incorporate pre-existing exercise treatment regimens and investigate their impact.
METHODS: Publications that detailed the clinical treatment of patients with

OBJECTIVE: Supervised exercise therapy (SET) provides clinical benefit for patients suffering from intermittent claudication and has been widely recommended as first-line therapy before endovascular or surgical intervention. However, published rates of SET program completion range from 5% to 55%, with historic completion of 54% at our own institution. As such, we sought to identify if targeted patient-supportive interventions improve SET completion rates while still maintaining efficacious SET programming.
METHODS: Patients who were diagnosed with intermittent claudication, as defined by ankl
